Can i ask how you trained him to speak i have alot of patience and my Budgie is tame she sits on my head, easly goes onto my finger with no complaint trained to return to her cage we get along grait , My dad had trained budgies for years but he isnt home enought to help explain to me with his new job and im confused with how to train her to speak. My dads budgie was trained to play fetch, to speak, sing and even to open his food bag he was so cute and such a happy budgie always playing around.

Well, actually he started to speak because he was lonely. He was without a partner and birds start to speak to be closer to the only other living beings arounds them. Later we decided to buy him a partner. Now he speaks a lot less but we hope he is happier with another budgie...

I cannot tell you how to train yours. My only idea is to give her much attention and repeat the words you want her to say. But of course it would be better to let her have a partner.

@EmmaSan1 I had a budgie when I was a child that could talk. We made sure to purchase it as young as possible from a breeder, and only had one. We let him fly around the house when ever he wanted, so that he could socialize with us. Repeat the same word over and over and over! until they repeat, then I would go on to another word. My budgie LOVED spaghetti with tomatoe sauce, so I would give him treats like this when he repeated the words. It takes alot of patience, good luck

Only males can speak, it is very very rare to see a female speak or sings songs. This happens with Cockatiels too. You can teach your female to do tricks! xD

I use to have a budgie named buddy, I miss him he was my friend when I was a kid and very tamed, and I was the one who tamed him as a kid, he knew his name, and even would come to me if I like clap my hands, but he could not talk sadly. but I started to notice he would chirp in a certain pitch when ever I said his name. sadly he got sick a few years back and had to be put down :( I miss him he was a good bird.

you can know if its a boy or a girl by looking at its beak, it has a hole on it if around that hole it is blue it is a boy if it's brown its a girl. Hope that helps!!! I'm planning to get mine in about a week or so.

Offer food in your hands and let them come to you. Do this everyday for a few weeks till they aren't so scared of you. Then you can try slowly having them stand on your hand.

How do you tame your budgie? I have had mine since december and he is not tame at all!! I cant even take him out of the cage!!!

well, you need lots of patience.

first, I just held my hand into the cage a lot af times until he didn´t fear it anymore. then he jumped onto it and I could take him out of the cage. when you do it often enough, he will do funny things like sitting on your head and pulling your hair :D

He's lovely! He speaks in a similiar way to our first budgie - Spud (or Spuddy). He lived for almost 14 years. I have some video of him taken a few months before we lost him. Thanks for reminding me I need to get the DVD out again. I might even try to get some footage of him up at some point! :¬)
