  • Thank you so much for doing this video! I've looked at a ton of other hair tutorials and they all have this thick mane. Finally something for thin hair!

  • @mariahCLD There's plenty more where this came from. : All different lengths too. :)

  • Just out of curiosity what is your natural hair color?

  • @Vampira2430 Light brown. :)

  • how many rollers do you use for this hair style?

  • @godziladog as many as I need...:) Sorry I can't be more specific but it wouldnt help you anyway since everyone's hair is different.

  • Thanks for this. My friend has fine hair so I am going to do her hair like this. I use a curling iron and just bobby pin it instead of rollers works about the same in my hair but not sure about finer hair. I love all your music selection, where/how can I get it; easy? YOU are a beauty.

  • I love this look- it totally worked for me and I wore it today actually :D yeyy Getting my hair cut really helped with doing these hairdos.

  • Is there a way to do this if you don't have enough time to put your hair in rollers?? x

  • @Alibbiyax Set your hair in foam rollersat night and sleep on them. The brushing out in the morning can be done in less than 5 minutes

  • How do you get your hair cut to do this?

  • @nasaroveronmars layers...a good layered haircut is all you need.

  • @fallismytime These are hot rollers by Remington.

  • you look gorgeous!

  • What kind of combs do you use for the other styling option? I'm wondering how I'd search to buy one or two :)

  • @eatmybed

I recommend Grip Tuth combs...you can search google for suppiers.

  • @LisaFreemontStreet

    Thanks again!

  • @coolcatnot1 lol...it's the lay of the land. :) People will dislike just about anything...

  • thanks! looking forward to trying this out!

  • I love this look, it was just what i was looking for. .. its soo pretty!

i was just wondering, where did you get the flower?

    :)

    thanks

  • @rashay114 I get my flower clips from belle blossoms dot com. Best selection there is! :)

  • you look like an icon

  • @PinkBebe123 gheesh! What a compliment. :)

  • I love this one! I'm a big fan of Rita Hayworth's beautiful hair. I've wondered how to do it. I'm going to try this one, it doesn't look to hard. Thanks so much.

  • you look like ginger rogers, did in the 30's, with this hairstyle :]

  • @misterfreehugs THANKS!

  • Gorgeous!! Thanks :-)

  • So wait, what type of rollers are you using? Ones that you heat? I'm kinda unfamiliar with rollers in general, since I don't ever use them.

  • @JAPANaBANANA These are Remington hot rollers. They don't make this particular set anymore but you can get hot rollers at the drug strore. Just make sure they get hot.

  • So nice to see some looks for fine hair - everything else I have seen has girls with hair so thick and beooooutiful - not like my small little sprinkling of locks!

  • woulda liked to be able to read the things you wrote, the timing was too fast for me. I'm a pretty quick reader myself too.

  • @Anakalia0788 there is a pause button, you know. ;-)

Incidentally, this is my first video and I wasnt aware that the text could be stretched out per Windows Movie Maker...so more recent videos are much easier to follow.

  • whats the song at the beginning?

  • @felixthecateika 'Honey Bun' by Mitzi Gaynor. I believe thee is an annotation

  • You look lovely as a blonde, and the 'do' is gorgeous!

  • how long does it normal take

  • @faucet2015 ...it takes me about 20 minutes to get them right at this point...but the first few times, my arms got TIRED! You have to be patient.

  • I like the red better LOL.

  • you look a lot like betty draper

  • Can you give me some advice for a 40's look with shorter hair...? URGENT

  • hard to do w/out showing you. And my hair isnt short. :) That's why I recommend finding a picture. Perhaps if you send me a link to the photo, I can explain how to achieve it.

  • Help! I have short hair and need to do something for my 40's party NEXT SATURDAY.......what can I doooooo????

  • Google the pin up art files and look at short hairstyles in the Classic Pin Up Art prints. Usually the styles are easy to copy since they're simple drawings.

  • Can you let me know what to do with the very front part of my bangs to compliment this hairstyle? Yours seem to already be the right length and shape to just blend in at the end, but mine are long and super straight. Should I put another roller in them? Which direction should I roll it?

  • Mine are actually too short for this look to truly be successful. Just roll them in w/ the two small rollers on the heavy side of the part...upwards.

  • you are amazing at what u do!... because of your videos I am able to finally create the styles I absolutely adore...just one question, can u create the Rita Hayworth style (like the one she had in the movie you were never lovelier) with the classic pincurl method? or should i use the ripped rag method?

  • If your hair is long, you should be able to achieve a similar affect using either method! :)

  • is your hair in layers? mine is and when i use curlers it is always really hard. especially to get the one side to have curls higher you know? i dont know if im doing something wrong or if its just my short layers..?

  • Yes, my hair is layered. I'm not sure what you're asking but if you part layered hair on the side and roll it, it should fall in waterfall waves, simply because its layered. For an example of shorter hiar w/ a similar style, see my video entitled 'Styling the Middy'. :)

  • That's Hot ! I love the video it's not too long and very easy to follow. Thanks!

  • I love this video! The hairstyle is so sweet

  • Would a curling iron work instead of hot rollers for this?

  • Yes, if you use your curling iron to roll the hair and then slip the curl off of the iron and clip it to your head to cool. A dry pincurl. It has the same effect as rollers. you can see me do this technique in me Jean Harlow tutorial. :)

  • Which set of hot rollers do you recommend? Thanks.

  • I recommend any set of any price, as long as it gets HOT. If you buy some and they don't heat up signficantly (enough to burn your ears...ouch!), take them back. These were about 30.00 back in the mid nineties. Yes they're old...which is why I can't recommend them since they are no longer being made. haha

  • You're gorgeous.

  • You're nice. :)

  • Thank you so much for your videos! It's like having a big sister to show me all this stuff!

  • Hi! So i'm trying 2 achive a similar look but my hair is very long, thin, fine & naturally curly so what would you suggest I do in order for the style 2 last as long as possible.I'm planning on using this look a night out and I wouldnt want it falling flat which is usually my case.Funny 'cause you would think my hair is naturally curly so wouldnt this be easier? When tryign 2 achive this I normal wash my hair and blow dry it, could that be my problem? Suggestions? I would really appreciate it.

  • Unless it is really humid that night, you should be fine. However, yo umight have better results w/ Hot Sticks. The curl lasts longer...the initial result is tighter but it will relax a little over time and look virtually the same.

  • i was thinking of having my hair like that for my debs and now after watching that im so doing it and i dont have to go to the hair dressers for it hurray :) thank you x

  • Two Questions:

    1. Can I get the same look with pillow/sponge/non-heat rollers? (overnight)

    2. In other videos you mention taking out the lower rollers first and work your way to the top layers. Why is ti different for this look?

Sorry I ask so many q's.

    THANKSSSSS

  • Good questions!

    1. Perhaps. But prepare for some denting and roll larger sections of hair or the look will be more like my Gil Elvgren hairstyle.

    2. WIth hot rollers you don't have to worry about tangling like you do w/ a cold set so the rollers can be removed however you like. :)

  • So erm ... How do black women do there hair like this then ? coz i want this style

  • Hmmm, I'm not sure from personal experience because I've not practiced on black hair myself. :( But I have a friend who claims that as long as she straightens her hair first, she could use hot rollers just like a white girl? haha...I wish I could be more helpful. :( :)

  • aw you look so gorgeous :)

  • I LOVE Rita Hayworth!

Thank you so much for this great tutorial!

  • THANKS!!!

omg i FINALLY know how to do them

    ive always wanted to know

and you kinda reminded me more of marilyn monroe that rita haha

what kinda brush is that again? i couldnt realy see it...

  • Just a plain ol' vent brush from Wal Mart. :)

  • Love your videos. What type of hot rollers do you recommend? In the videos you use hot rollers, but you recommend hot sticks? do hot sticks have a tighter curl?

  • Yes, Hot Sticks have a much tighter and longer lasting curl. If it's a basic hot roller set that you want, the cheap clairol ones at Wal Mart work just fine...and there is a nicer remington set there as well, where the rollers lay flat instead of standing up on spindles.

  • i love your videos !!! you look great as a blonde and red head !!

  • i luv the song! great vids btw.

  • I love your videos. I'm pregnant and dressing cute is getting harder and harder, so I'm trying to just focus on my hair more. Your tutorials make my days more eventful!!

Would you say the hotsticks give just as loose as a curl as the hot rollers? My locks are thick, and my sponge rollers give me really big hair when I brush them out. I'm probably doing something wrong... but I was just curious what your opinion was on getting the loosest curl.

  • When you pin, what do you use ? How do you put them in ? I can't really see...

Amaaazing videos, thank you oh so very much.

  • You mean the roller pins? They are the ones that came w/ the rollers...they slide on from the bottom. They don't dent, typically.

  • love watching your vids do you use a book to show you how to do your hair if so what is it called and where can i get one

  • Interesting you should ask! I just posted a video the day before yesterday reviewing a wonderful Vintage Hairstyling book! You can view it by visiting my channel homepage. it's the featured video. Thanks!

  • love your vids! what brand/kind of hot rollers do you use? do you have any more rita hayworth type do's to show us?

  • I use Clairol currently but they're old. I recommend Hot Sticks! Cheap and really effective. I'm posting my review tomorrow. :) I haven't got any other Rita vids currently but if you'll send a photo over, I'll put it in my request folder. :)

  • hello lisa

your videos are great and very helpful, thanx

i would suggest though that you let some of your text stay on screen a little longer

we sometimes cant read it all cause it goes away so fast

    otherwise videos ae great

    keep them coming

    thanx

    mike n' jo

  • THis was my first video...I realize the text is too fast. Perhaps my newer ones are better? I hope so. :)

  • just need to grow hair little bit longer very helpful ,thanks.

  • I love your videos - I have curly hair and I much prefer the vintage hairstyles from the usual modern dead-straight look.

What tips would you suggest for doing this with velcro rollers - I know they're not as good as hot rollers, but they're all I have at the moment and want to do this style to wear to a wedding

    Thanks

    Sarah, Australia

  • I'm not sure. i never use them. You might try applying hairspray before rolling and then some heat? Tell me how it turns out. :)

  • Thats exactly what i was looking for,.! thank youuu

  • speechless hairstyle... :]

  • I consider that the highest of compliments. Thanks so much!

  • you're right this is exactly what I was looking for. really helpful :) stay glamorous, Doll!

  • Thanks so much. :)

  • Do you use hot rollers?

  • I love this video i use this hair style all the time now. I only have one question. What is the instrumental intro song?

  • It's entitield 'The Man With the Golden Arm' (from the Frank Sinatra movie) . The song is by Henry Mancini but this version is performed by the Scofflaws.

  • The two upward rollers contribute to the waterfall effect...

  • Thanks so much!! Your videos are amazing!!! My only request: can you please keep the text up long!! I always have to go back and pause it to read it! LOL! You are awesome! Keep up the great work!!!

  • This was my first video...I don't usually put longer text on my current videos. And as you can see from the above comments, you aren't alone in that request. I don't think it's as much of an issue in the current vids but let me know! Thanks again!

  • hey, im gonna try out one of your styles for an evening out thats coming up because i bought a late-forties style dress to wear. i just cant decide which one yet!

my hair is dark brown with natural red bits in and has a bit of a natural curl, but its a bit tempermental!!

  • Keep me posted on how it turns out!

  • Enjoy your videos and think you hair looks best as a blond

  • Thanks...I think I look older w/ platinum hair. I do like it though...just too expensive to maintain. Sigh.

  • No i love your red hair! SO glamorous! I wish i could pull it off but i dont think it would suit my skin colouring.

  • The platinum hair makes you look very much like Natasha Henstridge in The Whole Nine Yards to me. Very beautiful.

  • Wow! Thanks!

  • Hi - I just found your videos and love them! Your hairstyles are gorgeous. If I might ask, I noticed you were blonde and then went to red, which you look great with both, but did you get your blonde done professionally or did you do it yourself? If you did it yourself, would you mind sharing what you used to get the blonde color? It's very pretty. Thanks so much!

  • Ooo thanks...my hair is the same as yours and i always presumed you needed long hair to make it look cool but finally..... hot rollers, spray and BAM a new hair do!!! Thanks!!!

  • Nah...long hair is way overrrated. :) If I see any more bad weaves I'm gonna ...well, I'm gonna be annoyed. ;)

  • I love your tute's... I love watching them. It makes it so much easier to watch someone doing their own hair. You always look so Glam. Thank-you for the inspiration!!!!

  • Your tutorials are amazing! I havn't found any this good, yay. :)

  • So nice of you! I enjoy making them, especially if they actually help people. haha.

  • is it possible to do something similar with a curling iron? i don't have time for hot rollers :(

    great video though!

  • Absolutely, only the result will probably not be as long lasting. You do need to let the curls you make, cool completely before brushing them out. I suggest you do this look w/ hot rollers on evenings wen you have more time.

  • gotcha. thanks!

  • You can use your iron to make your curls, then roll them back up and use bobby pins to hold them while they cool. It works very similar to a hot roller set. (little hairdressing trick on a busy up-style day)

  • Very good trick. I haven't used this option in a long time..but it does work very well.

  • I love this one! I've been looking for a Rita Hayworth hairstyle tutorial for a while....I've got a formal to attend and I wanted this style. I can't wait! :) Thanks so much!

  • Oooo, that will be lovely. Take pictures and post them as a slide show video response. ;)

  • I will! Only the formal is May 2, so it will be a while, haha.

  • oh i'm so glad that i found your channel.

  • I'm glad you did too!

  • wonderful wonderful wonderful!!!!

  • Gee, thanks. :)

  • Have you ever been able to find blond combs?

p.s. I'm a swing dancer and your videos are a lifesaver! I've got a set in right now!

  • Sigh...no. The only ones I can find are the cheap fake tortoise shell ones they carry at the local wal mart. ;)

  • I have really long hair (5 inches below my shoulders) and I love the retro looks you have been dishing out. Can you recommend a style or technique for someone with long hair like mine?

  • If your hair has layers...ANY of them will work for you. If you look at the vintage pin up art that I use as inspiration for many of my looks, they are all different lengths. The Vargas tutorial in particular looks BETTER with longer hair. If you don't have layers, you can still achieve the Vintage look by pinning it up...play around w/ the hair and use Iris' (ilovegerardo) tutorials...she has VERY long thick luscious locks. :)

  • Wow, thank you very much for this! I want to buy some hot rollers, but I don't know which ones to take. Got any advice?

  • You look very good with blonde hair, I like it. I love this hairstyle, I'm getting a curling iron soon so I think I will try to do it with an iron, I don't have curlers.

  • Thanks. I would have kept it longer but it was a pain to keep it up, roots and all. Sigh. I would definitely invest in some rollers if you like this style., even if you have to tear up some towels and make 'old fashioned rag rollers'. :) This is difficult to achieve w/ a curling iron.

  • adorable...

will this work for long hair?

  • Yes, it should...especially if your hair has layers. THis style doesnt work for hair that is all one length though you'll, of course, have a similar effect.

  • =P

    thank you soo much.

    =]

  • Whenever I brush out my curls for a softer look they seem to get that frizzy look instead. Do you have any suggestions, what am I doing wrong?

  • Do you have naturally curly hair? If so, that could be the problem. Simply work some styling creme between your hands and smoothe it over your 'frizzy' curls. That should do the trick. If you don't have curly hair at all, try not applying any product before you roll (except the heat protectant spray, which won't cause frizzing). I know that if I put mousse or gel on my hair before I dry it, it will frizz like crazy!

  • Ok so last night I did a cold set and did what you said, I put NO products in my hair, only water and it worked! I brushed out my curls today in less than 5 minutes and they look gorgeous, thanks so much for the tip!

  • I'm so glad! Yay! I am practicing pin curls myself and last Sunday I took the advice of an online consultant and put gel on them first...horrible mistake! No curls, just FRIZZ! So then I did them w/out product and ...magic! Some people have hair that does not respond to product. We are those people...:)

  • Lovely 'do :)

  • This is amazing ! I have been wantin to learn this kinda hairstye for quite some time and tank u for teachin us ! ... Ur a godsend for us Youtubers who wanna learn vintage hairstyles... Btw, juz hope if you could show us the back in ur future vids ... I would definitely wanna see the back of the head after the rollers are up .. Or the hair been done ...

  • Duly noted, Sue! I'm trying to be conscientious.

  • I usually do what you said... but well, I guess I'll keep on trying. thank you so much for answering :) have a nice day

  • I have really really fine hair and if I try to brush my curls, my hair'll become straight again (even if I leave the rollers all night long). Do you have any tips???

  • Use a heat tamer spray if you're using a curling iron or hot rollers. THis can help some. Make sure the curls are COMPLETELY cool before you attempt to brush them and only use a comb or vented brush, not a bristle brush. If they still are straight, don't use a brush at all. Just use your fingers to seperate the curls. I hope it works for you. Humidity plays a part also, unfortunately and sometimes the curl just won't hold. If that's the case, carry some bobby pins w/ you and put it up ltr

  • awesome style! if you could...leave the longer bits of text up longer so we can read!

also, could you show the back of the style sometimes..that's where i keep messing up

  • Yes, I agree that I need to leave the longer text up longer. Unfortunately I had already removed this from my computer and I had to bounce it from Youtube to mycomputer and back to do this edit. Otherwise, i would have made changes in the text as well. I will also make an effort to show the back more often. Thanks!

  • Thanks for rating this, christinatron. I am so frustrated that my audio was removed on the other one. But there were some problems with that one anyway, so I just reposted it. Thanks again...

  • That looks so good and it seems pretty easy to do! :D
