a a signal collector I would love to go recover those old PRR lights I only wish it was legal i have to wait and gt thm from nother collector even on those dead line I hve ha dproblems trying to aquire them great video
@gaycowboy31 Someone beat you to these PRR signals in Akron, OH. The stills show 3 signals in 2007. The one left is the beat one I videoed Sept., 2010. Part of the face for the remaining signal is on the ground. 2 posts are left, 1 with no finial. Posts should fit B&O CPLs as posts are off the shelf items. The property is abandoned PRR. Seems like no one from CSX would bother taking what was left on abandoned PRR is my guess. Who to ask if needed? NS?
@gjhgjh yah but I be damn you get out there and start takeing those down someone allways shows up usually law who dont know a damn thing about abandoned lines but to them it is still stealing from the railroad nowdays I just dont mess with it and its a real shame
@gaycowboy31 Yeh, if a cop can get promoted off us he will do it. Nothing more to take at this Akron signal site. Susquehanna, PA, will give away their Erie water tank to whoever will move it. Tank needs lead precautions to dismantle or move. And lead paint makes old signals cheaper to replace than fix if more is needed than a bulb. Told an ATSF steamer I saw in KS can be had by someone willing to move it. Their is likely more giveaways.
@gjhgjh yah thats a real shame they can get away with stuff like that the cops I mean .nothing more at the Akron site wow I wish I could aquire that water tower from Susquehanna LOL dont temp me I will collect anything railroad if I can pick it up or my tractor can load it but in all seriousness a water tower would be a bit much but sure would love to have it its the stupid EPA requirements to move it that stops me most times I cannot afford the hasmat team to clean it up first steamer included
@gjhgjh Oh My God that engine is still a thing of beauty but moveing it would be a Bitch dealing with the EPA requirements and finding someone to move it intact we had a SP 2-8-2 deliverd down to Grapevine Tx several years ago and it came in pieces its reassembled now but they have the place to do it it got delivered severed from its drivers they cut all the lines and brakes that held the main drivers on to move it thus ruining it ever running again but that passenger engine is a Thing of beauty
@gjhgjh the Norfolk Southern Port Road which passes underneath the CSX philly sub in perryville is loaded with the Pennsy Position lights. they are slowly getting replaced though
cool video I have a B&O CPL head out there in my train collection with my other signals but no pole for it yet still working on that part I still dont have a PRR one I am working on that
@gjhgjh maybeee I have a friend who understands wireing its possible someday it has all the origional guts and wires from Raco they just cut the mainline in when they took it down it still has all the origional cords and lenses and all just no pole yet
Greta video with the signals in use! They're getting harder to find and it's nice to be able to have footage of them....... not to be picky, and you prob know more than me, but i thought that the type of signals you photo'd in the beginning (the kind that have the smaller diameter lamp with the longer shield protruding through the circular facing) were not b&o, but either prr, or some other incarnation. did you find these on an original b&o line?
@BaltimoreAndOhioRR Pennsylvania RR uses yellow, antifog, position lights w Corning glass lenses. The shields are and have been many different shapes on the PA, including no shields and tombstone shields. Amtrak adds colors to their PA position lights. Sun shields, eyebrows, are differing lengths on both RRs. These signals have colors on non Amtrak owned lines thus identifying them as B&O. Plus a B&O mini is here. The double track diamonds they guard, now NS & CSX were PA & B&O.
@BaltimoreAndOhioRR I correct myself. I did not use the Youngstown footage described in my reply. Abandoned signals are B&O by location. PA line is Canton. This is Akron. At 1:56 a concrete B&O coaling tower shows. The B&O main is left. The abandoned signals are/were left of B&O main from coaling tower.
@gjhgjh - is the coaling tower still there? i forgot to mention, we still have one - although it was knocked over to trackside for clearance purposes many years ago
@BaltimoreAndOhioRR Google Earth indicates it is their. 2 land pics. Imagery of 5/29/2010 is poorly seamed at the location: 41degrees 05' 13.75" N 81degrees 29'14.05"W. The PRR signals U identified are in the woods NW of site. Derelict modern era coal cars and caboose parked on Y below. The 4 chute 2 track Girard, OH, B&O coaling behemoth, visible N from I-80 crossing the Mahoning R is their.Love to see pics of your find in MD.
@BaltimoreAndOhioRR The 4th quarter 2010 Sentinal has an article by Ed Kirstatter on Akron Junction, OH. Story starts with a pic of Akron B&O engine yards and coal tower 1:55 . He states the control on the higher ground was PRR. Interchange yards were the other side of the main for Erie, PA, AC&Y, B&O. Thank you for spotting the PRR brows. I am in awe. A pdf of Kirstatter article is online.
@gjhgjh -Yes, around here in Baltimore, the original B&O routes can be discerned by the B&O signals (whats left of them). The PRR used the other type, and since neither railroad is still around, the various incarnations now overlap some track usage. Generally, CSX uses old B&O tracks, and NS / Amtrak uses old PRR tracks. There are some exceptions, but thats generally how it worked out. The old B&O signals (shown in your vid above with the CSX train) are only on the ex-B&O tracks
@BaltimoreAndOhioRR B&O/CSX ROW is on the P&O Canal ROW. Entrance to the interchange yard was a PRR responsibility. PRR was the first RR here, hence the PRR controlled signals and switches. pc.smellycat has a diagram of the PRR piece online.

@gjhgjh LOL it took me a while to find one I doubt I will be parting with it any time soon now if I could figure out how to wire it to work
