The XK11 is a squad support weapon, not a replacement for ordinary rifles. Rifles like the G3 ,M14 or FAL were also heavy(about 5kg with magazine) but tehy were standard issue rifles at that time. Machineguns like the K3 or M60 are also heavier than standard issue rifles but they are squad support weapons as well. Thus, the 6.1kg is not a problem.

Asian countries manufacture products for export and buy oil and other resources with tje money earned from trade. So no reason to fight war over economy interests per se. Besides, many of the high tech products are actually developed by conscripts who do alternative service in technology companies. After all, college education is needed for cyberwarfare-you need OS kernel knowledge. Thus,people should stop criticising conscripts.

It's interesting to see how different countries (Germany, ROK) handle mandatory military service. Does Korea stll have the "Pangwi" (part-time soldiers)?

The home defence service was abolished long ago. Many students with engineering background do their service in technology-related positions in companies or research institutes. They receive basic military training however.

People should not critize Korean weapons on the basis of experience in Middle East. In Asia, a war is about whether a minjok,culture or history will continue to exist or be removed from history books and NOT about economic interests. CQB situations will be handled by the police(most Asian police are stronger than many Western infantry units) while the actual war will be a full trench confrontation, with at least 10 million combatants on each side.

To the West, it is a matter of pursuing economic interests as it has been for many centuries(overseas territory related);to the East, it is a matter of preserving territory,minjok and history. China can no more invade Korea as in 6.25 because Korea now has a stronger army with thousands of modern tanks and ,of course, the XK11 which is the most advanced rifle in the world. China's army may look large and have some expensive stuff(like their F-11 fighters which are equivalent to very old F-16s made in the '70s) but isn't that powerful after all.

China's army doesn't just look large it IS huge. But it is incredibly outdated though... i remember reading in an article where several historians called the Chinese military the largest living breathing military museum in the world haha

The problem is that they have revamped their military based on the tremendous economy growth. They now have money to buy anything they want..because of the huge amount of Chinese product the Western world bought from them. Anyway,Korean army is the world's only one capable of defeating the PLA in a ground war. Japan has no military,anyway.

If you read news, you will see what kind of military buildup China is carrying out now. They have started building aircraft carriers and developing some sort of modern aircraft resembling F22 or PAK-FA. China is now No.1 in foreign reserves and their economy is still growing,so they have enough money for that.

Not one specific article but such issues have been reported a while ago. You can look up on military related sites. The Chinese plane in development is the J-XX.

Japan has equipment,yes. But having equipment is not the same as having a real military that can protect a country from invading enemies. Japan's infantry is very small compared to its large population, the divisions are widely scattered and not as capable as the militaries of Korea,Taiwan, Singapore, Philipines,Thailand or Vietnam. Even in terms of equipment, Japan isn't ahead anymore.
