  • Where's Fish????

  • Which yeas was this DVD made in ? I suppose 2009 or ?

  • @dilbertanas WIsh You Were Here DVD. Relesased 2005 march, out of print. This song recorded at Marillion Weekend 2003.

  • amazing band .. fish a h the soul of marillion

  • not right, just leave the fish era marillion songs to fish, hogarth isnt worth a ....

  • yes, yes mr H - you don't have to sing...

  • I'm a huge Marillion-with-fish fan, but I thank H he wants to perform the old stuff.

Why is it not good ? Because it's not Fish ? I think H does a great performance with a great song. get your mind open for this !

  • not bad but this song IS fish

  • GRANDE MARILLION UN TEMAZOOOO (Y)

  • It's been a wildly successful & friendly competition since the early 1990! Both Fish and Marillion know that they play-off each other in the media & fan bases. I mean - they know there's a kind of rivalry, and without that rivalry, neither Fish on his own nor Marillion with H would have been as successful as they are!

Genius marketing & showmanship on both garden parties. ;-)

  • Oh, my good God! Look at Steve at 7:48. He's totally INTO this song!

  • @Jamesyctfc

Yeah and napoleon should be elected as the next president of France.

  • Fish should return and Hogarth stand down!!!

  • Wow, had no idea that Marillion did any Fish era stuff with H any more. Must be quite rare I imagine, seeing as they've got like 20+ years of music they've written without him that they could play instead.

  • @vivelavidarocka

    Amen to that!

  • Man! I mean, I could understand the anger about Peter leaving Genesis and these becoming a Poppy band. But why are people angry about the voluntary departure of Fish from Marillion, and the rest of the band keeping the legacy of tasteful and creative music with Hogarth?

  • @dufortrph

Because this is far below Hogath's level. I mean listen to it...thank God nowadays their music is more mature, like a good wine becomes better over the years. Let mr Dick do what he does best, paint his face and playing a jester (poor Gabriel immitation). In the meanwhile Marillion does what they can do best and that is making good music with Steve Hogarth.

  • Only one word, really - dire.

  • Fish is gone. Long live Marillion!!!

  • @cermisan

Er no, he's not actually. He's far from gone, he's just not in Marillion anymore.

  • @SharonW64

I didn't say that he was dead?!

  • F*ck H!

  • Without Fish its not the same

  • H is pretty much acting like a dick, laughing and smiling throughout this song. This is a song with pretty serious subject matter; when Fish sang it w/ the band, he was very focused and acted out the part of the protagonist. Plus, as others have said, once the whole band joins in, WAAAAAAY too fucking fast of a tempo. Overall = D+ at BEST,

  • @dufortrph

Couldn't have put it better myself.

  • @dufortrph I'm sorry but these lyrics just scream prog masturbation and i've never taken them seriously. It's a great song no matter who's singing it Rothery makes the song what it is not Mr Dick

  • @pinkfloydrule27 Jesus, what a joke this band has been since Hogarth took over... having the audience sing along? Feel like I'm watching a Jonas Brothers video...

  • @dufortrph I see no 12 year old girls in the audience. tbh i've never even heard a Jonas Brothers song so you I wouldn't know much about your statement there

  • Great Band and Great Song but... WITH FISH! This is not "Script"... this is something like... I don't know what. Please, Marillion with Fish is Progressive Rock - Marillion without Fish is something like Banal Pop! Fish and Marillion 4EVER!

  • Fantastic! Hot audience, great song - thanks

  • I would just love to hear H do something like Chelsea Monday or maybe Incubus but I thinks its highly unlikely.

  • Steve H is so good at the old songs...I wish he would sing more of them

  • @whitweedug there are songs that he just don't sing, and i think that's a good thing - like: Grendel, Market Square Heroes - not because those songs are "iconic", but they're in a totally different key to H's standard... But i really loved Script, Kayleigh in H's version... White Russian as well!

  • H makes the portrayal of this song a.. joke.. tacky and very unprofessional like.

I know Marillion B-Team have to play it for the fans, but for the Jesters sake, don't make it a joke.

To end.. I have never liked Marillion post Fish. I just don't and I just can't, don't ask me why.. the answer will only be.. because of H.

  • H is a fantastic vocalist,i love his voice,he sing it in his own style,it´s difficult but not bad, better than Fish today with his damage voice!

  • I say its a real honor to their fan to still play live :P

  • when and where?

its good to see they havent abandoned the fish era stuff completely

  • I am a huge Fish fan and also a massive Hogarth fan...I'm also totally honest. We all sing along at gigs. Fish initially used to hold the mic out for us out of enthusiasm, but from '86 onwards because he simply can't hit the notes. That is something that Hogarth cannot be accused of. As a vocalist, he's superb and he makes sure he can do his job. He has alot to be thanked for, Marillion only had one album left in them with Fish before it would have collapsed, he would have died on the road.

  • Great performance, great song, great band

  • H is a legend!

  • If you forced me to choose between H or Fish, I'd say that I prefer Fish overall, however H does a phenomenal job with this very difficult song. I think he's really quite underrated as a vocalist.

  • Stary kawałek.Nowe wykonanie.Polska kocha Marillion! :D

  • esta cancion me hizo subir al cielo

  • I live in barking and my foreign neighbours loved this! help!!!

  • Comment removed

  • So what, just because Fish left the band 20 years ago they should stop playing all these great tracks?

I agree that h isn't Fish, but Fish isn't h either, he brings something else to the songs.

  • Fish - bitter and melodramatic

    h - melancholy and melodramatic

    Both are great.

When you're stuck in the past you miss out on great things going on right now. You gotta grow with the band.

  • Good lord. I never knew until now that h had sung this. Live and learn. :)

  • Hogarth made inexcusable miskake trying sing that song, but the audience were wonderful!

  • Marillion without Fish is another Band.

  • Indeed.. and to those that gave the 2 negative votes... :p

I don't care, I was there in the beginning.

  • Where won't help reason prompt voice heart

  • agree.

  • couldn't agree more!

  • @AcidPuppy Although i am a huge fish fan, h has done some great songs with the "new" marillion, angelina for example, however, they really should not allow him to crucify fish classics like this. Its painfull to listen to.

  • When was this?

  • i hope he never try to sing grendel

  • Me too

  • it's a fish song

  • A great song and a great voice of H... yes we love him!!!!

  • About time Marillion re-visited their early early past. How long before Hogarth tackles "Grendel"? Pleasantly surprised how well he sang a song that is so associated with his predecessor

  • Although I like this version of "Script", I feel quite...weird, when I hear a song, which to me is strongly connected with Fish, sang by Steve Hogarth. But, as I said, I like Hogarth's version too. (Besides, I think H is one of the singers who are able to sing anything and they always do it well ;) )

  • One of the most greatest songs in the world, feels great in H voice, different styles, different voices, different feelings, both great

  • I love H and love Derek, diferent styles, diferent voices, different feelings, H voice i like an angel singing, the passion of Fish is great, it´s good to hear H singing fish songs, and this is one of the most greatest songs of the hystory, feels great in H voice.

  • Dear finniusmknoll,

I can understand that you are at a loss about my comment as it was not a reaction to your comment, but a general comment. I just picked yours to react!

I agree almost completely with you althought I don't want Fish to sing any song as he can't bring the quality he had in the 80's, H still can though.

I'm sorry if I offended you in anyway!

  • WHY compare Fish with H???

    Completely different singers.

Compare the songs they wrote for my sake, but not their capacity to sing.

H is, by far, the better (technically) singer of the two. Fish had a special sound to it.

I say had, because nowadays Fish sounds worse than my 6 month old son. H sounds still great.

  • grande marillion y la calidad la mantiene con hogart saludos desde chile y ojala vuelvan algun día saludos

  • Brilliant live version. The crowd was excellent. Where was this concert held?

  • Why the Fish versus Hogarth blarney after all these years? Simple. Name one song with H that even remotely comes close to this nine minutes of musical perfection. There is none.

  • Oh... I'm not taking your opinion, but you're wrong. Examples of Hogarth's 9 minute and more songs

This Strange Engine (around 15 minutes)

A Few Words For The Dead (around 10 minutes)

    Neverland (12 minutes)

    The Invisible Man (13 minutes)

Happiness Is The Road (10 minutes)

I like Fish, I like H. I'm not arrogant or foolish enough to compare two totally different personalities and characters, however.

  • well that is entirely a matter of opinion. Whilst I love Script, there are plenty of songs from the Hogarth era that match it, at the very least. This Strange Engine and Interior Lulu to name just 2.

  • i really enjoyed it! brill

  • not quite as powerful as with Fish, but i love it, first time hearing a version with Hogarth : )

  • I must say that this song really suits well to H's vocal - it sounds really great, as epic, as Fish's performance were. I prefer Hogarth, but I must admit, that they are both really awesome and outstanding artists

  • "h" is no Fish !!!!!!!!!!!

  • o rly?

  • If you are gonna do it then do it right! Use your own style but sing the right words.............

  • omg.. after all these years Hogarth been in Marillion this shit still goes on? YEAH! Hogarth is no Fish, but he is a damn good singer! Has his own style, is own ways of performing, Sure Fish has the voice, but not the charm. I saw fish play not so long ago, he is more stiff and stand still then a rock. But dont take me wrong, He is a good singer. But just get over it! Hogarth is the singer for Marillion! appriciate what he does instead

  • Not bad but why does he still (still!) change the bloody words.

"In the silence of my shame the MUTE (not bloody FOOL)"

He has done this since he joined!

Apart from that he does a good job.

Yes - I am an anal git! :-)

  • I love that!!! I've seen Marillion on stage a lot of times since 1994, but they never playd "Script". Was it filmed on one of the M.-Weekends? It was not 2007 though.

  • Yep - must agree that Rothery just slipped into God like status there. Good vocal from Hogarth as well - suits him this track !!

  • Rothery may be the world's greatest guitarist!

  • O Hogart é demais, qualquer música da era Fish que ele gravar fica sensacional com uma voz incrivel

  • Marillion = God.

    (With Fish or h.)

  • Sorry, If I listen to this song, rothery makes it an original, but Hogarth makes it a cover version. Bet the audience had some fun - so should we.

  • I think it's great personally. And I like all eras of Marillion, and to quote the big man himself, Steve Hogarth does his job 'very well'. Good enough for me.

  • YES YES YES

    1) He's not Fish and he's not trying to be him.

    2) It's not totally Fishes song - he only wrote the lyrics. The largest writing credit has to go to the rest of the band.

    3) He's not letting the crowd sing because he can't be arsed, he's letting them sing because they want to sing.

Dont't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of Fish both when he was with Marillion and his solo work. But he still plays the old Marillion classics so why shouldn't Marillion?

  • FloydPink You have said what all of us, Marillion fans of both eras have said all this time: Get over it!! even Fish got over with leaving the band. Why not the rest of the fans accept this fact and embrace this era (C'mom it's a long time) and enjoy the music, it's still good!!

  • Sure thing! No one ever complains that Ian Mosley is playing Mick Pointer's song. H is Marillion's singer since 1989. If people hate H they should only stop listening to him and stop complaining.

  • zdarec! je fajn, že se o tuhle super kapelu zajímá i někdo z Česka! Marillion mám hodně rád a mrzí mě, že jsou tady u nás tak nedocenění ....

  • Fish couldn't do this well on dry land. Great job Marillion!!!! Steve lets the crowd help out... Totally cool of this Band!!!!

  • where en when was this filmed?

or is this from a DVD.

    anyhow 5*.

  • this from a DVD-Marillion - Wish You Were Here [Disc 1 ~Popular Music~]

  • Cool...I'm not the fan who gets into the Fish/Hogarth thing, I like both versions of the band but am always curious to see how Hogarth handles the "old stuff"...Thanks for the post!
