  • I have 4 years old ancistrus i think XD

  • 0:16 "ITS MINE!!"

  • Ok sorry I jus realised u never said it was 15 inches I apologize this is a bristlenose then at 5.5

  • They are no way bristlenose I have my own lfs with my dad and we have both inspected your video there are other species of plecos with bristles in fact there are more than 8 different ones, I am telling u now its not a bristlenose or its not 15inches like u have said, they rarely get above 3 inches but at the max get to 7 inches no way 15

  • Quite aggressive, aren't we :)

  • Their "hard to believe" strenght is quite well shown here.

  • Heh, like that fish.

I find it extremly funny, that he has eyes on top of head, so when the food is below him, he cant find it, and keeps moving and sucking from down, until he finds the food :)

  • Your not meant to keep 2 together

  • hes cute with sand on his head ^_^

  • get a measuring tape on that beast. dont believe till c it

  • Great video - it shows the eye spots on the dorsal fin really well.

  • 14cm is quite big i've never seen them get bigger than 10-12cm. nice specimins

  • that is small at least mine is a reg pleco and he is 15 5\8" I love him and I have a small one that is about 10" I have not measured her but i think she is that.

  • my Bristlenose is sick with ich i thought i lost him yesterday he went lifeless yours are healthy looking m8

  • that guy is a hardass at :55 to 1:00

  • you know thats not good? they are fighting dummy

  • @fitbikerider459 they wont really hurt each other while they do that, I have a male and female and they only fight when theres food around. Most of the time they just stick to their own territories.

  • The people who pressed the dislike button thought it was "DIS-I-LIKE"

  • Big and Ugly ...... Is amazing that they can live in toilet water ..... They are a tough fish ..... I have one in my 50Gal........ He's about 15 inches ...... See my Vid ....... Thanks for the post ...

  • @MannyScoot 15 inches MY ASS! they are bristlnoses

  • @MannyScoot 15 inches isn't a bristlenose, probably a common you've got.

  • @the4blueturtles nope its a bristle nose look at the bristle of its nose

  • @thehamsterlove1 its not a bristlenose, there are some bigger species which get bristles

  • @the4blueturtles it definitly is a bristlenose

  • @xYxJumpstylerxYx type into google, bristlenose plec, press everything there if you find something on a website which is ansistrus sp. with a max size of more than 5inches, then i'll believe you.

  • @the4blueturtles OMG; proof: I am farming bristlenose plecos! And this, is definitly a bristlenose pleco

  • @thehamsterlove1 no i'm talking about Mannyscoot, noelzz is a bristlenose

  • @the4blueturtles oh sory

  • clarify me on sumthin that is an ancistru yes? if not are ancistrus a pleco subspecie? cause they look really alike

  • @tize79 its sub species but i'll let you off coz your just an american.

  • @lypluradon im European! >:O i live in portugal and im really offended

  • @tize79 ok then i profusely apologise for calling you an american! i can see how that can be really offensive!

instead i'll let you off because you are portugese.

    ciao

  • słabe oswietlenie

  • the fish is breathin very fast...

  • I thought the max length was supposed to be like 3-5 inches for these guys?

  • there gross

  • I had a 4 inch BN. He is a great fish but I have found him to be a little bit aggressive to his tank mates. Sadly I just gave him away on craigslist.

  • Hey mate, thats one BIG, beautiful BN, i've got 7 in my oscar tank (55g) at the momet and the biggest is only anround 3 inches, i've only got 1 male and he's just under 3 inches, soon i'm gonna have a LOT of babies haha Beeeeeautiful fish, clear images great job =)

  • Wow I didn't think the Bristles get that big?! Nice!! Check out my tank!! :-D

  • What camera do you use and how much is it

  • @AquariumMania

Hi, in my older video you can see footage of two cameras. The more colorful videos are of a "Minolta Dimage Z1" that's a digital photo camera with video-function. This video is made with an analog Canon V60Hi Camcorder and ripped with a tv-card. Both are old cameras, you can only buy 2nd hand ones on ebay. My latest videos in HD are made with a Samsung HMX H100. This one costs about 350-400€ that's 450-570 usd.

  • can any1 here tell me what could have happen to my female bristlenose, she was fine 1 day then when i got came the next day she was sitting upright on the bottom dead and all white, she was full of eggs too :(

  • @blender2325

Maybe it was a disease called in german "Laichverhärtung" (don't know how to translate it. It means that such fish have distended bellies and inward collapse of the ovary.

  • hey realy cool plecos, i just 2 of em today tat are only about half an inch long.. how long did they take to get to that size?

  • @EpicShenanigansChuck

In my case about five years or something.

  • cool i have one of those but it is a albino got it at petco for 4 us dollars

  • @BradleyEugeneJohnson

Yes, there are albino ones with red eyes and yellow ones with black eyes (those are called L144).

  • is it hard to clean a sand bottom tank? im considering switching to sand.

  • @Michael7klufas6

I never clean the sand. The pump/filter is doing all the work. Dirty cannot soak into the intervening space like it can with gravel. So no it isn't hard to clean.

  • I have a regular Plexo in my tank and ive always wnated a small one of these but local pet stores do not have them.Where did you get yours and how much was it???

  • @HaloReachS117

Every petstore over here in germany sell them, and they are not very expensive. But I got mine from a private breeder.

  • Xenocara dolichoptera

  • @MrNeoXeno

The common bristlenose aren't pure "Ancistrus dolichopterus", more like a crossbreed. That's why they are only called "Ancistrus sp.".

  • 5 inch ain't full grown

  • @TheWhitevoices Could be for a Bristlenose

  • @TheWhitevoices

But close to that for a bristlenose plec.

  • awesome!!

  • @fishme555

    Thanks!!

  • Take a look at my pleco on my channel im going to make a video of him very soon

  • @bwrightab2310

Ok, I'm going to check it out.

  • gorgeous. i cant wait till my 2 starlight bristlenoses are larger.

  • @Bravehear71992

And then show us a video of them. =)

  • @n03lzz feel free to have a look. not sure if you can spot it in any of my video's unfortunately only one remains.

  • @Bravehear71992

I already watched your videos and didn't spot it. But i like the fact that you are using a waterproof cam. That's kinda unique.^^

  • @n03lzz yeah i really havnt attempted to get any great video's yet and its crap that youtube doesnt allow high quality videos. ill try and get much better videos soon :P what do you think of the tank? :D

  • @Bravehear71992

Cool, i'll stay tuned. (That's also why i subbed to you).

You have a nice peaceful tank. I'd add some more plants. Maybe upload some frontal views of it.

  • @n03lzz sweet. i added an african butterfly fish. despite all the rumors he's a wimp, my neons bully him XD

  • @Bravehear71992

But I've also heard about bigger butterfly fish that ate all neons of a tank.

  • @n03lzz i was afraid when i put him in but it really seems like he just ignores them, he hides in his little shelter i made him untill night. by that time all my neons are on the floor sleeping, and thats when i feed him crickets.

  • @Bravehear71992

You have to upload some new video of him. :D

  • @n03lzz im working on getting a good video :)

  • @n03lzz New video up :)

  • @Bravehear71992

I gave you my "thumb up". Feel free to announce new videos on my channel. =)

  • can fish grow in 9 years?

  • @mgot89

They don't grow their whole live long. But they can become 18 years old, so maybe they grow for 9 years.

  • it's non a Pleco...It's an Ancistrus dolichopterus...A male one..

  • @DevilAle

Bristlenose plecos is a common name for "Ancistrus sp.". Most bristlenose aren't pure "Ancistrus dolichopterus" anymore. You can see the differences between my ones and a purebred.

  • I just bought a baby Bristlenose today.

Can't wait till he is bigger. He is in a 15gallon right now but will be relocated to a 35gallon tall hex tank that will have some African Cichlids in it.

  • @1992pattrow

    Cool! They are awesome guys.

  • DAMN what do u feed that!?!?

  • @ridingreenkx

I feed them sinking tablets (normal ones and herbivore ones with spirulina). And as addition i feed them vegetable like cucumber.

  • Why would you keep two fish in the tank who don't get along?

  • @daphneprocz

That's a good question. They never fought eachother until that day. After that they were peacful for about the next year. And then they start again with their encounters. You have to make sure that each male has it's own territory with a perfect cave in it. You also need a big tank. Otherwise the fights become very intense and it's not unusual that one male might die. They have very strong weapons and can hurt eachother easily.

  • cool pleco! i was wondering if anyone might know why my gourmi has some form of bruises around his gills? any answer is helpful. i bought a medicine food but that isn't working please help i don't want to see him die.

  • @jjerger1

Sorry for the late answer. How is it now? Can you upload a video of it?

  • @n03lzz Is he dead yet lol?

  • dat looks like a hella aggressive pleco

  • @unitedazn111

Yes, the male bristlenose plecs can have very brutal fights with eachother.

  • dang nice big tough plecos.

  • @insectsfairandmoreSA

    Yes, they are. Thanks. =)

  • 1:20

  • @MrBeau74

    I are hinding, lol. ;)

  • could i put 2 brittlenose plecos in my 90 gallon?

  • @EpicShenanigansChuck

Yes, you can. But i'd recommend to buy a male and a female.

  • cool fish, u think i could put 1of these plecos in a 40gallon fish tank

  • @aguilasandy1423

Also a pair of them would be fine. But not more then one male.

  • Is a 250L tank good enough?

When there's eggs should I put them in a net or leave them be in a cave? (I don't have fish eating fish)

    How often does Ancistrus breed?

About how many eggs each time?

What tempature should I have eggs/new born ancistrus in?

I just got some baby ancistrus hatched about 3-10 hours ago, is there anything particulare I should do e.g put them in a new with the male?

  • @geminiSe7en

its always best to move them RIGHT when they hatch, just cause they dnt eat them, dosnt mean they wont mistake it for food...just get a tank deivder or sumthin :)

  • @GeminiSe7en

    1. You should leave the eggs in the cave an let the male take care of them.

    2. Seperate them only, if you want to raise hundreds of them and if you know where they can get a new home. They reproduce very good and often.

    3. My breeding pair in a seperate tank breed about once every two month. Sometimes more often.

    4. I breed mine with a temperature of about 26°C that's 79.0 °F.

    5. I do exactly nothing special to raise them. I just let some algae grow.

  • @n03lzz Aight, thanks a lot mate. :)

  • @n03lzz Oh yea, I forgot to ask, I've gotten some cichlids now - do they eat Ancistrus eggs? or endanger baby ancistrus?

  • @GeminiSe7en

You are always welcome. That depends on the species of cichlids you have and the way the tank is decorated. In one of my tanks the ancistrus fry managed to grow up together with a pair of Kribensis. It's a very well planted tank. But more aggressive species of cichlids might hunt for them.

  • @n03lzz Well basicly it's a 140 Aquarium, I got 1 huge plant in there, 1 small plant and about 20kg of stones.

I just put down 3 pretty small guppies and the cichlids doesn't seem agressive towards them..

And I think it's some kind of Zebra cichlid.. If that brings a bell?

  • @GeminiSe7en

At least, you've a fair chance if your cichlids even don't bother your guppies. But i cannot give you a guarantee. Zebras aren't the most peaceful cichlids. In every case the fry needs their hiding places.

  • thank you n03lzz for all your help. keep up the good vids

  • i just bought a female bristlenose as a companion for my male, she is HUGE!! about 5 inches long and about 1.5" wide!! and at £7.50 i couldnt really argue, good times....

  • @adamidus:

Wow! 5 inches is an awesome size for a female. You have to upload a video of it! =D

  • i have a qouestion. how big do they get? i have 2 in a 60 l tank..

  • @vornik24:

You can only keep them in a 60l tank when they are young. Their maximum size is about 14cm (5.5inch). Those big guys need bigger tanks.

  • @n03lzz

do you know how i would sex it when they are young ? ( i was told the femails have bigger heads than the mails ). My local store only has young bristlenose at the moment ( also there the only store i would trust to byuy fish from ). thank you

  • @Qwalkson:

I've a breeding tank with them in which are babys in all sizes. I'm pretty sure that there is no reliable method to sex them when they are that small.

  • ok cool thank you. i might ask a few more questions in the near futre. i think i will stick with the normal brown/black bristlenose catfish as they sound easer to keep!. thank you so much for your help and good luck with your bristlenose catfish in the futre.

  • ok cool thanks. i have one last question :P sorry. Whats the difference between an albeno bristle nose catfish and a normal one ? and Would it be ok to get albeno bristlenose catfish ?. thank you. PS this is the last question. Thank you for all your help.

  • @Qwalkson:

First: You can keep on asking, if you want to!^^

The albino bristlenose (the one with the red eyes) is a "normal" bristlenose which don't have any pigments. They can breed with the normal ones but their albino gen is recessive (In a mix their fry wouldn't become albinos, too). To my experience albinos are a bit more prone to illness.

Don't confuse them with the L144 Ancistrus. Those ones got black eyes and a "real" yellow color.

  • thank you. How would i sex it ?, And do you think i could get 1 mail and 2 femails in a roma 90 ( 90 ltr ). my roma 90 has lots of hiding places like tubes with one end open lots of plants to hide, play, breed ect, the only thing i dont have is bog wood but apart from that i have everything. do you think that would be ok ?. thank you so much for helping me. iv subscribed because you have helped me so much.

  • @Qwalkson:

With a size of about 1.5 - 2 inch (that's 4-5 cm) the males develop their first small bristles. First, only one row above their upper lip. Females never have any bristles.

Personally i'd add ony one male and one female, but maybe two female would be ok, too. In no case two males. (I know, I recommend this and keep several males in my tank, but i've also seen the wounds they have sometimes after a fight :S )

I think that should be ok, and if you want the optimum, add some bogwood.

  • do you have any tips for breeding them. also if you give me some tips on keeping them i will subscribe. i wanted a pleco for ages but they all grow to big. ( thats why i LOVE the bristlenose !!). thank you. PS i rated 5. good luck

  • @Qwalkson:

A young pair of bristlenose can breed in a small 15 gallon tank. They start breeding after a bigger waterchange. Later they need a bigger tank. They become such splendid specimen only in big tanks. You should have a cave for each bristelnose in a tank. Such as coconuts or pipes with one end closed. They love small caves in which they just fit in. Avoid keeping more then one male in a tank because their fights can be brutal. They need bogwood as food. Feed it cucumber once a week.

  • they have sex

  • @kanadis2:

I hope not. They are both male.^^

No, that's a fight for dominance.

  • my pleco is 30 inches bigger than that and i have a 65 galon tank for 50$

  • @ivan62047:

Well, not all plecs are the same species. For 14cm (5.5inch) is a very very good size for an adult Bristlenose.

  • He is a beautiful guy. My bristlenose male is growing up quickly as well. He will soon be as handsome as yours, he got his first branches a couple weeks ago and allready spawned for me. His first spawn was 80 babies LOL. I have 15 left now.

  • @melrudd:

Cool, i'd love to see a video of yours! =)

  • I heard these guys are SUPPOSED to stay small :P. whats a good loach for 30 gallons? Ive got sand, so it makes poop stand out, and even with all my vacuuming, its still there. so yeah.

  • @hiddenThecakeisalie:

It's a matter of opinion what you call "small" ;)

30 us gallon is too small for most loaches. What do you think about kuhli loaches?

  • @n03lzz

I have had two before for my ten gallon, but that was before I knew about cycling and everything (about 8 months ago), so all the fish died. but now I have a fully planted ten gallon and partially planted 30 gallon tanks. My ten gal has been up 7 months, and my 30 is on its first month. I like kuhlis though. Fun to watch

  • u should buy a internal filter to make sum flow and it should clean it up a bit

  • Get the feeling that even a big lad like him prefers a quiet tank with smaller fish

  • I think he'd prefer a tank without other male bristlenose plecs.^^

They do those hierarchic encounters rarely. They got so much space in there about but once a year they seem to prefer the same cave and only this cave.

  • i got a big plec today he is a bit smaller than them i think he is a spotted plec

  • I don't see him in your new video. Is it in this tank? It'll become as long as the tank is... (would be maybe a problem?).

    Best regards.

  • no the pleco in that tank is tiny , the spotted plec is in my oscar tank will make a vid of them soon

  • I'm curious about it.

  • trust me dude i have a bigger tank and thats were he is i will make a vid promis

  • Oh, sorry. My first language isn't english maybe a misunderstanding. I do trust you.^^ I just wait for this video. =)

  • its up now check it out im getting the baby oscars tomorrow

  • Vacuum warrior, that's what I would name my Bushynose.

  • Yes, that's a convenient name.^^

  • i hope you think... one of this fish can die? oO

  • Hi, again.

    Was meinst du damit?

  • ale samolub ;p

  • holy crap that thing is huge i just got one and im a kid

  • Yes, they really are, but stay tuned. I'm going to upload a new video of them tomorrow.

  • Thats a make right? I recognize the y shaped bristles

  • Yes, i love them. The Y-bristles develop when they are fully grown.

  • how long do they take to reach adult size?

  • They start breeding when they are much smaller. I think they start breeding after about less than two years or something. Breeding is a sign for beeing an adult right? They are about 7cm (2.7 inches) long then.

But they are fully grown after 5-6 years and reach a size of about 15cm or 6 inches.

  • look at that facial hair !

  • It's very cool, isn't it? I'm going to make some more cool videos of my adults.

  • i have a bristlenose that i feed broccoli and algae wafers and when the other fish come over he swims away into his cave

  • Maybe it's a bit reserved. The bigger they get the braver they become. That's not uncommon.

  • how old and big is that catfish of urs??

  • The biggest one is 14cm (5.5inch) long and about 6 years old.

  • my bristlenose is fairly agressive, ive got this stupid bunch of gupies that try eating the catfish pellets when im fedding my bristlenose, and it goes fucking mental! hahahaha, kinda interesting to watch them though.

  • He has to teach your guppies whos the boss in the tank.^^

  • hahaha, pretty much. Also, how many bristlenose are ussually born in one litter?

  • That depends on the productivity of the breeding pair. Young pairs don't have as much fry as fully grown ones. My small breeding pair have every two month about twenty.

  • One of my favourites, Iv had hundreds of these little buggers from the breeding pair of mine. Lost the female recently unfortunately

  • I also got a breeding tank for a pair of mine.

Sad thing with your female. My sympathies.

  • hey i need a hand in ID the sex i have one it only got bristle around it nose and is about 8 months old and is 3 inches long do you know what it is thanks

  • There are females that got very small bristles on their top lip but most of the time, the guys with bristles are males. When they are young like yours, the males also got only small bristles. But those develop into big antler when they grow up. So i think yours is a male.

  • thanks

  • lolz you got the goreomis like i do

  • Cool, i would love to see a video of yours.

  • ill make one and upload

  • maaate, how old are they?

  • Maybe about 6 years, now.

  • damnnnnnnnnn. its world war 3 in aquarium. hahaha nice pleco man, so aggressive. 5 star

  • They didn't fight anymore. That was the last time. Since that, they are peaceful.

  • he's a aggesive one :S

  • After this fight they got kinda hierarchy, and they are peaceful since that fight.
