  • Brent always looks like he has a huge dip in while he sings.

  • I just saw them at Soundwave Festival in Sydney. Most of the set was The Hunter. It was a killer show. These guys are talented! Half of Soundwave was Nu Metal that all starts to sound the same.

  • finally top comments that i dont have to look for... the one is the answer for the other and submits the hole reason of the argument. hahah (i have no life)

  • I've been a Mastodon fan for around five or six years now, and I have to say, I'm upset about "The Hunter." I gave it a chance and listened to the whole thing, and WTF happened to them? "CHANGE! STAND! GROW! THESE THINGS YOU'LL NEVER BE!" -to "It's just the curl of the burl." If you like there new album a lot, that's fine, nothing wrong with that, this is just my opinion.

  • pretty damn good for a letterman gig(p.a./sound man)...i think it sounds good a brent can feel it.tight.

  • Hate me some Letterman, but LOVE me some Mastodon!

  • Hate me some Letterman, but LOVE me some Mastodon!

  • it would be tough to play metal in front of a bunch of... not metal heads. you know, the kind that go to comedy shows and are stuck in the everybody is an idiot because somebody can make fun of them mindset. lamb of god played on this show to didn't they? sounds brutal. but they didn't get shit thrown at them so it's ok. that'd be like watching the metal singers on american idol get humiliated because nobody can learn to accept it. i'd like to see a metal singer win american idol!

  • @dwasdwas1 @kouryclark you're both faggots for fighting on the internet

  • @daydreamer92 it would only be fighting if music wasn't, as mentioned, subjective ;D

  • nope

  • I always feel bad for these guys when I see their appearances on TV shows. I don't know if it's the monitor systems, or the way they get mixed, but they never sound right... Then you see them play at any other normal venue and they are just incredible! I don't know what it is...

  • The Hunter is growing on me. However, I still cannot get into this song.

  • lol the Letterman crew mixed them like a pop band and robbed them of their superpowers!

  • They didn't get mixed like a pop band, this is just a schlocky arena rock song

  • @demonj00 haha. yeah. the same thing happened on jools holland. stupid tv sound men compressing everything cos they dont have a clue how to handle the weight of the sounds.

  • As a fan, I didn't like this much. Mostly because the mixing blows. Plus Brent was off pitch in some spots. Saw them a month later at Terminal 5 and it was freaking amazing.

  • Big improvement on the live singing!

  • @jgquinton Wow, if that's the improvement, I'm scared to look at the live clips from previous years.

  • I became a fan when I randomly bought Blood Mountain then downloaded the rest. I really liked Crack the Skye, but now the Hunter is my favorite. I think this band is progressing well.

  • brent is getting the fuck down hahaha love it!

  • Whatever.....this song rules!!! I love how they threw a semi radio friendly jam in the mix. Seen them 3 times and always epic. Coming to NYC in April and gonna be bananas per usual. QOTSA rock for sure, but Mastodon are on another level. All 4 dudes can sing and trade off, while the musicianship and songwriting is killer. So happy this band exists in 2012!

  • These guys are tight as any band I've heard... Really liking this song... Hope old fans don't start hating just cause they've progressed a little...

  • 19 dislikes?

  • Killer riff! Great tune!

  • I'm sure it's been said a million times but this song is not Mastodon. Because it sucks. Just go to Mastodon show and check out the crowds during "where strides the behemoth" or "colony of birchmen"....compare them to curl of the crap

  • @LastGunfighter I'd love for you to elaborate, because right now you sound like you're full of shit. Remission is good, Leviathan is good, Blood Mountain is Good, Crack the Skye is good, and The Hunter is good. It's all good.

  • @LastGunfighter Dude, shut up or I'll bite your torso and give you a disease.

  • Ficou muito bom hein, parabens!

  • Nice guitar amp combos these guys have going on. I thought for a long time they only used Orange amps. I was mistaken. The best thing about Mastodon, is their music has become more accessible, yet they haven't forsaken complex melodies, progression, low fuzzy guitar tones, and they have a great trio of vocalists. One of my top 10 favorite bands out of the thousands, and The Hunter just feels right to me. It's got everything I love about Mastodon.

  • The Hunter is a pretty rad album overall, and their most accessible if nothing else. Curl Of The Burl is a little more radio than I'm used to, but after a quad of back to back amazing albums, I'm totally ok with these guys trying to branch out a bit and build their fanbase.

  • @SRsyndrome To be fair, Mastodon have branched out and done what they want on every album

  • @MrDerp24 Not in the sense that any radio DJ would decide to play them on daytime time slots. I could hear this on rock stations during primetime instead of just getting Blood and Thunder every so often after hours.

  • David Letterman is the man for having Mastodon

  • i love how at the end brann is contemplating on whether or not to do a mini solo there and then he's just like awww fuck it

  • sounds really good its cool that they can progress and try new types of melody's without being tided down by type of music its awesome that now everyone has an album they like

  • This guy scared the shit out of me a couple of videos ago, and here he is shaking around like mick jagger's ugly sister.

  • beautiful thin lizzy fans......you gents are correct

  • I LOVE THIS BAND. WISH I COULD JAM LIKE THEM.

  • brents hips dont lie

  • @12captainamazing HAHAHAHA!!

  • this blows

  • @kouryclark Your mom blows, and you should have been something she swallowed.

  • @dwasdwas1 i mean, i'm a mastodon fan. i just don't like this so much. you're a loser for hating on someone else's opinion. Maybe your mom should have taught you that music is subjective, instead of how to run your cock sucker like you're superior or your opinions carry some weight.

  • @kouryclark F and A! Well put.

  • @kouryclark Music needs to be objective dude. You can't compare Mastodon of 5 years ago with Mastodon with today.. take their talents at face value, their musicianship and how they want to conduct their music. You can't let personal feelings (subjectivity) get in the way because that hinders you from actually appreciating the music more. And, to show your maturity cracking 'your momma' jokes or making 'you're a fag' comments further proves the immature nature of people on the net.

  • @tigershark421 you know, you're right.

  • @kouryclark Metal on brotha!! \m/

  • I love how Bill's always chillin just takin a few steps forward or backward. Love that guy.

  • 0:47 lol fuck up

  • Comment removed

  • They should let the bassist sing all their live songs. He's got the best voice.

  • Sorry but I hated Mastodon until The Hunter came out. I'll take clean vocals to screams and growls anyday.

  • @ReasonableRam Well said. I love this song!

  • lol Mastodon have changed so much since the early albums came out. Only that this one has a certain groove in it doesn't mean they're now doing kind of pop music. Still love this band and looking forward to the concert on monday.

btw: crappy sound in the vid!

  • yikes!!!! this is horrible

  • Mastodon's not mainstream, but I guess if something's not thrashy and has a bit more composure and groove to it then it's mainstream.

  • @RiseinPhoenix Yeah keep tellin' yourself that.

  • Mastodon... What happen to you guys? Want some more acid? Here, take mine... Make another album like Leviathan or Crack the Skye, please. No more of this mainstream shit...

  • @27sevenSToFo I like the Hunter as much as my favorite album by them Leviathan. To each his own I guess.

  • 2:22 hi mom

  • i love bands that have several different vocals, it always keeps things fresh

  • alice in chains

  • sounds like wtf but in my head this song they sounded like zakk wylder

  • Brent could read the phone book and sound fucking awsome

  • ORANGE AMPS BABY

  • These fellows definitely have their own sound. Who are some of their influences?

  • @grizzlytomahawk Clearly Alice In Chains and Ozzy, judging by this song.

  • @grizzlytomahawk You'd have to ask them, but this song reminds me a lot of 70s Heavy Metal (like Black Sabbath) and 90s Stoner Rock (like Kyuss).

  • Wow! brent looks likes he's having one hell of a time lol

  • Troy got his mojo down! Damn, shake that moneymaker, Troy!!

  • I wish I could dance like Brent.

  • He tries to "sing" when they do live shows... and he seems timid, like he doesnt want to vocalize too loudly in that small studio. I've seen them in a few live shows and they have gotten better Live over time. Still have a little ways to go though. No matter what, they make amazing music and are my favorite band regardless.

  • Just what is the "curl of the burl" anyway? The only thing I have ever heard of being 'burled' is wood...like burled walnut. So is he talking about his crooked erection??

  • @SoldierSide77 no, meth heads in the pacific northwest looking for burls in trees so they can cut them, sell em, and buy more meth.

  • Liquor, beer, weed and crack tend to do that to voices.

  • y is his voice so bad on this?

  • HI MOM! :D

  • Wow wtf is with his voice? horrible

  • There is enough style and talent in those 4 dudes to make 10 more incredible musicians.

  • new album reminds me a lot of early queens of the stone age, but played by real cavemen

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @ericwylde But alot better than Queens of the Stone age!

  • @ericwylde Yeah Stargasm kick fucking ass in ways Queens couldn't dream, though. But queens definitely rock in ways Mastodon couldn't dream of.

  • those licks just seem like like they should be played from a "V" and I'm a very big fan of this band from OCTANE! Long live Kayla Riley!

  • Brann Dailor, what a fucking drummer!!

  • It's like Josh Homme if he had an affro and a goatee.

  • They don't sound like this live, why are the vocals so off?

  • @EmoKillingClown it's the mix. tv shows always seems to fuck up the sound mixing for mastodon

  • @SirThirdFilms they do for just about any band that is loud.

  • This was awesome but i think that they should let Bill do some vocals or some solos too

  • I am hypnotized by Brent's hips.

  • I killed a man cause he killed my goat. Fucking love Mastodon!

  • "Hi mom" on Bill's guitar - fuckin' EIPC!

  • @paker666 great!!!

  • Damn, their vocal performances are spot on.

  • HAIL to the GREAT,,( MASTODON) . Best Album of the Year.

  • anyone know what kind of octaver that is? sounds super clean... my guess its an e.h. pog.

  • Comment removed

  • @blamethetyrant Morpheus drop tune pedal, they talked about it with premier guitar

  • Theyre amazing live just somehow their vocals dont translate good over video recordings

  • Brent is so sexy when at 1:11 shake his ass ahahahahahah <3

  • i dont know if everyone notice but, brett's got a awesome dance

  • I love Mastodon, but I don't consider them a band to see live, you have to sit in the middle of a room with the lights off and candles in a circle around you and listen.

  • @svantebeaverman I have to disagree about seeing them live. They have been phenomenal every time I have seen them.

  • @number4legend Yeah of course. I didn't say anything about them being a bad live band! They´re great.

  • Comment removed

  • So when is Jeff Bridges going to star in the movie about the life and times of Brent Hinds?

  • watching oblivion on david letterman to watching curl of the burl on david letterman. they got so much better with harmonizing the vocals. Brann, troy and brent all got better at singing. its cool that brent can sing the verse and then for the chorus troy and brann will sing it, or vice versa. The Hunter is there best album.

  • lifesblood, remission, and leviathan...well at least i have that

  • This is what Alan from the Hangover would be like on magic mushrooms !

  • Woof..ffs

  • TURN UP THE DRUMS!!

  • well i see. you either need an awesome mustache or a shirt with an awesome mustache on it to be part of mastodon.

  • Bandaça!

  • this is so boring and lifeless... the days of remission are indeed long gone

  • @HammarHeart They said themselves, they weren't too into playing fast and heavy shit all the time man. Take a full listen to The Hunter, I can tell you it's far from fucking lifeless :D

  • Their vocals sound a lot better here than the oblivion performance they did on letterman.

  • @kazoorocketman54 i think Troy actually mentioned that the vocals in all of Crack the Skye were to hight for him to sing so maybe thats why it didnt sound as good

  • @kazoorocketman54 maybe cuz the guitar part is less complex...

  • Mastodon kurwa!

  • Wow! Troy looks...clean.

  • @jvondd The Hobo King of Bassists likes to look his best on national tv I guess.

  • @jvondd Troy hasn't looked fucked up since Leviathan, Brent on the other hand.

  • @MrJamesodon Well, to be fair, Brent smoked crack. It has effects.

  • @jvondd Who you calling scruffy looking?

  • @gojirametallica I didn't say he was scruffy looking. I said he looked clean. Han Solo, on the other hand, is one scruffy looking nerf herder.

  • @jvondd You made my day

  • @gojirametallica That's why I'm here!

  • @jvondd Mastodon... clean? these guys are like The Strokes, they haven't taken showers since 1987.

  • @mahavishnuxc Normally his hair looks much more frizzy.

  • @mahavishnuxc I love Troy's quote about the first time Brent showed up to practice. "He was dirty and smelly, and had...crustaceans in his hair..."

  • dance!!!!!!!!!!

  • I looked this up just to see if their voices actually sound as unique as on the studio albums

They do sound more human live it seems

  • 1:14 lmao

  • Damn, Troy sounds awesome.

  • groovey baby yeaaah

  • The vocals kind of rub me the wrong way in this video. Everything else is fine however. I love this song.

  • @TheJayroh Same with me.. Something was off. Album version is much better, and I love Mastodon live.

  • @TheJayroh Yeah, something is off .... somebody was singing flat, maybe someone's ear piece was not working. That being said ... tv studios are notoriously difficult to perform in which is why most everybody lip syncs (traditionally.)

  • @dreamcanal sigh, sadly Brent is the culprit, singing live is not his strong suit, but his guitar slinging makes up for it.... he sounds good in the studio though *shrugs*

  • @dreamcanal Maybe so, but obviously Mastodon did not lip sync lol.

  • their guitar tone is tits

  • troy = wizard, brent = lumberjack, brann = brann and bill = dude with cool mustache that draws ur attention during performances

  • @chike36 Troy = a Lion, Brent = Ryan Dunn, Brann = Brann, and Bill = Chuck Liddel.

  • Troy always sounds so much more reserved live than he does on record. Brent is a wizard as always.

  • I demand more from Bill, he needs a mic too

  • @wiggaroo His Mustache does more than the whole band!

  • he's doing the half ass Axel Rose dance

  • did he say trees instead of streets? Brent has alot of hip swinging going on up on that stage, lol

  • @6evilbitch haha it's a groovy song man you almost have to move.

  • Comment removed

  • favorite band. Hinds solos are so awesome good its stupid.

  • killer drummer

  • thanx for the HD yo!! i getta see brent & troy dance in crisp/clear vision B)

  • Mastodon!

  • Mastodon

  • Mastadon Rules!

  • nice i like it more bands like this and clutch are allways welcome for me

  • Puscifer and now Mastodon?! I'm starting to love David!! Even tho he isn't funny at all! But good fucking taste in music i must say!!

  • @Grimj0w12 they were on the Letterman show before. This is their second performance

  • Still sound like a mess to me.

  • BRENT GETTING DOOWWWNN

  • they have a new confidence to em

  • Listening this song convinced me that mastodon continue their legacy...they dont just make albums...THEY MAKE MUSIC!
