@xSlien This was written by the Boss himself in 1978 and was intended to be for Elvis Presley. Then "Fire" was recorded first by Robert Gordon on the same year. The Pointers Sisters recorded this song too in the same year and it hit no. 2 in 1979 on the US Pop Charts. Now, Bruce Springsteen never recorded his song but he did sang this live on his 1978 Tour onward. He never released his own recording until 1986.

He wrote so many songs in that period he was giving away some songs.

Same period, he gave his song "Because the Night" to Patti Smith (it was rought and she wrote her lyrics) and it became her hit song too.

You can still find some Patti Smith fans who claim Bruce Springsteen copy her, it's funny.^ ^

Bruce Springsteen wrote this song for Robert Gordon and he recorded it. Bruce even played piano on the recording. Then the Pointer Sisters covered it and made it an international best seller ( good for Bruce but not for Robert) Then Bruce decided to play it and it gained also big popularity. Robert Gordons version is actually pretty cool, but a bit retro. This is a good cover.

I am going by what was written on the CD that I bought titled Robert Gordon with Link Wray. There is a biography written in it and there is no mention of Elvis, only that Bruce Springsteen thought RG was very talented, and he is. I saw some stuff in the internet about what you mention, but I don't rely on wikipedia or other blogs anymore. Where did you get your info? If it's not from a reliable source than you can't be sure. Internet is full of BS, like here. YT has a lot of false info on it.

Fair enough about the internet stuff, I can't remember what the source is, cause I read it ages ago, but it was some sort of biography thing on Elvis and projects that were never completed due to his death,. But as I said it was ages ago so *shrug
