  • If I had a time machine and could travel back to see awesome bands like this, the only thing that would put me off are those stupid girls screaming. YES THEY'RE HOT, GET A GRIP

  • great!

  • These guys made some great music!! So tired of waiting .................Don't we all know that feeling!!!!

  • My friend you got one of the BEST influence... one of Rock Foundations... and this track... guauuuuuu is a REAL SOLID GOLD

  • I don't know about you, but I could never drum while being lifted on that thing...

  • Thanx for posting this. Always really liked this song. What show was this on and who was the host? Was this Lloyd Thaxton and Shindig?

  • Sang this to the girl of my dreams...

  • The screaming is unnerving, must have been annoying after a while performing though that.

  • YOU 44 UNLIKERS,OR IS IT LICKERS CAN GO GET SHAGGED!!! I SHALL NOW SHALL DRINK MY WUDKA AND CONTINUE TOOOO PARTY!!

  • This song is an example of a non love song which showed the genius of ray

  • @snookienibbles the (invisible) cymble was removed because it blocked the view of seeing the drummer for tv. The drummer was just playing it the way he was meant to play it. If you listen no cymble sound is heard so they were playing it live.

  • Flying V ??? damn!!!

  • ugh. Ladies...

  • OMG GIRLS STFU I CANT HEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheHowlscastle If I was there right now, I would have screamed my balls out of my throath!! Wish I was there

  • 60s time of my life, now its hell because of the corrupt government.

  • @1wolfoutlaw Spot on mate

  • I do wonder if these millions of women fans of bands like "The Kinks" and "The Beatles" enjoyed the music or just the faces of the musicans? Do they even listen to the lyrics?

  • @ lovetheoldies

the quitar dave is playing looks like a Gibson flying v. it looks heavy and balky. now what is a kink? is it slang?

  • what kind of guitar is dave playing? anyone?

  • @lovetheoldies A Gibson Flying V..i'd give my left nut for it..60s model..be worth a fortune now.

  • This is a great song but if you like this you may like to search:

THE VINYLS-GET IT OUT OF YOUR HEAD

It'll only take 3mins and this band are AMAZING!

  • this is a great version, but green days had more energy

  • hehe have big eyes with love inside

  • NO BETTER SONG!

  • man those girls in those days were a fuckin pain in the ass it was their fault the beatles didn't want to go on tour anymore because you couldn't even enjoy their music. DAMN BITCHES

  • the audience is annoying

  • so true .-.

  • Unfortunately, future generations will be aghast at how many young ladies are screaming in the background. . . why? What was happening to them?

  • @ChronosDigitalus Indeed, I was wondering too... Did they give them something before the show so they would get sexually exited? xD I mean, they're not looking that hot, are they?

  • classic

  • Ladies and gentlemen, THE BEA---...iiIINKS!

  • erm i love uk

  • I don't care what anybody says. The Kinks were the greatest and this song is forever...

  • cool i can bend to your needs, just talk to me and tell me what you want

  • This has got to be one of the Greatest ever "lost" songs

  • Superb.I am 61 and these were my Dads favourite band. Thanks for the memory.

  • I'm a 19 year old girl and when I heard that Ray Davies was coming to my hometown, I cried like a little baby. The Kinks are my third fave band EVER, behind The Beatles and Eric Clapton! CANNOT WAIT TO SEE DAVIES LIVE!!!

  • @groovechile68 You are a very open minded young lady. I'm so glad to see that people of your generation are aware of the great music that came out of my generation. I'm 57, but I remember as a young teen ager how awesome the music was. The Kinks were one of my favorites. Hope you enjoyed the show : )

  • Super song

  • not bad, GREEN DAY's version is better!!!

  • Ahh, I love The Kinks so much <3 I'm so glad I was introduced to them, since I'm only sixteen so I wasn't around when they were.

Seriously, they're definitely the best band of all time.

  • @alexmckelleys

I'm 61 and am glad you appreciate one of my favorite bands and one of the greatest from that era. Still, I get frustrated by the way so many posters your age and in their twenties always need to claim one group/singer or another is "the best band of all time". Those of us who lived through the 60's know there were so many amazing bands then that it's silly to make those kind of claims and we don't.

  • @StevenTut I didn't literally mean that they're the "best band of all time." It's just an expression, and more of an opinion. They're my favorite band. Sorry, I didn't think my comment would offend anyone ?

  • i'm so lucky i had a dad who grew up with this

  • I LOVE THIS SONG COOLLL

  • What is all this shit about GreenDay. Do you think in 50 years we will look back at Green Day in wonderment. I doubt it.

  • @Timebridgeoldboys I love both bands but in the pantheon of great bands Green day is ahead of the kinks at this point.

  • @F2125524

I don't think many would agree that Green Day has even joined the "pantheon of great bands" yet. I assume your "pantheon" would include artists/bands like The Beatles, The Stones, Neil Young, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Dylan, The Band, Steely Dan, Beach Boys, James Brown, Led Zeppelin, Joni Mitchell,The Byrds, Marvin Gaye, Elvis, Jethro Tull, The Kinks, Elton John, David Bowie, Leonard Cohen, etc., etc.,

Green Day hasn't done anything that would allow them to walk in that company.

  • @StevenTut Well, Green Day will be in the Reading festival, and the reading festival only alowes the bests bands, THere played, Nirvana ,Red hot chili peppers, Etc,

and yes, green day was in woodstock.

Maaany bands didn't wanted to go to woodstock because they complained that theyr instruments wil lget dirty and damaged, But Green Day didn't.

  • @robertofly3000 Playing at the Reading Festival doesn't mean Green Day has the same status in the pantheon of greatest rock groups as Hendrix, the Stones, Kinks, etc. They're a good group but have yet to create music that will endure through successive generations. Green Day most certainly did not play at Woodstock. They weren't around then. There was only one Woodstock - the original in 1969. Other fests ripped off the name but never came close to the spirit, magic, and music of Woodstock.

  • @StevenTut Lol, Green day was in woodstock my friend

    Woodstock '94 .

    Get your facts right.

  • @robertofly3000 You missed my point completely. To me and many others, there was only one Woodstock festival - in 1969. The promoters of the later festivals ripped off the name but the events had no connection to the '69 fest., in spirit or otherwise. When you claim a band played at Woodstock, most people think of the original. The others were just pretenders. The 1969 Woodstock festival was a spontaneous and unique happening that could never be repeated. I was there - - eat your heart out. :)

  • @StevenTut I can relate to this as having been through the evolution of the rave scene. While, in many ways, todays mega festivals like Rothbury, Coachella, Isle of Wight, Burning Man may be amazing experiences, it still seems like i will never again feel the thrill and unpretentious vibe that I had when I was in an old warehouse illegally at 3:00 AM with 1000 kids having the time of our lives. Incidentally, there was nearly never a drop of alcohol at these gatherings.

  • @StevenTut Although I otherwise agree with you, the 1994 "woodstock" was put on by the original promoter, and I'm pretty sure the 1999 one was, too. (I wasn't born for the 1969 one, but I was 17 when I went in 1994) Quality wise? Not that there weren't any good moments at the 1994 event, but the 1969 was the best and most memorable one.

  • @KitchensLady It doesn't matter whether the promoters were the originals or not. The other festivals had no connection to the original 1969 fest. and using the Woodstock name was a blatant attempt to cash in on it with a younger generation. The later fests. should have had their own original names.

  • @StevenTut :,(

i am so happy for you.

was it the climax of your life, or was it just another year to you?

  • @phriendlybear

Woodstock was an amazing event during my 19th year and I'm very thankful I was there. When we left for it, we had no clue what it was going to become. As we got near the site we began to realize we were taking part in a special event. I never considered it the climax of my life though. A great milestone, certainly. The 60's - early 70's were an incredible time to come of age!

  • @StevenTut i'm overwhelmed with jealousy.. hope you had the time of your life there man...

  • @StevenTut you are right that woodstock is a unique open air concert and no one could beat it..I wish im there too and be part of woodstock history..

  • @StevenTut I'm glad I wasn't there or to its more recent wanna be

  • @123itisfree I'm glad you weren't there too. Your negative attitude would have been a downer to everyone around you.

  • @StevenTut Not fair, I was in ninth grade, and my parents did not say no, but HELL NO!

  • @StevenTut I agree! No disrespect to anybody from my generation but Woodstock '94 was a joke, and Woodstock '99 ended up in disaster.

  • I was born too late.

  • Not sure how Chuck Norris ended up hauling their equipment before he got his own movie contracts.

  • Ahhhhhhhhhhhh........ the days of lip sync !

  • @PaullyBB ???? EVERYONE lip syncs today!!!!!! WTF

  • Everyone should own Kinks albums, Everyone!!! thanks for the post !

  • hey EVERYBODY, look at my chanell, i have one video of some musicions in FALMOUTH singing this song, i bet you will like it ;) greatings

  • fuck those dirty little beatle bitches, its all about the KINKS!!!

  • Kinda ashamed of myself. I only knew the Green Day cover. never even realised the original is SO MUCH BETTER!!!

  • @OlsenFairReview It happens the best of us.

  • Comment removed

  • The Kinks rocked. They were a band's band.

  • at 0:53, the drummer, using his right hand appears to hit a cymble that doesn't even exist!

  • @Snookynibbles The guitar player's cord is invisible too! You DO know they're just miming to a recording...right?

  • @Snookynibbles - because this is lip-scynched - btw, do you mean cymbal?.

  • @Snookynibbles Thats skill for you.

  • @Snookynibbles Maybe he was meaning to hit the one he'd hit Dave over the head with a few months earlier? XD (No, seriously. Apparently that actually happened.)

  • @Snookynibbles good observation I guess they were playing along to the studio version

  • @Snookynibbles

Yea your right, where is it , he forgot to bring it with him hey, I' m a drummer, yea looks funny

  • ha i can bend to your needs, just talk to me and tell me what you want

  • Lol the people screaming in the background :P

  • i think they were the first band to use a Flying Vee..i think..

  • That Flying Vee is bad!

  • doomdark64 YOU rock they just dont get it and they never will

  • im tire of wating of Mike Mesaros The Bass Player Of The Rock Band Of THE SMITHEREENS Please, cum back to the band for cry out loud!

I'm tire wating for the ordinal bass player Mike Mesaros from the rock band called THE SMITHEREENS! god! its ashame that he left the band when is he coming back?

  • @MsSmithereens

Yet, another perfecr example of why You Tube should have automatic SPELL CHECK! (LMAO)!!! I am not excluded in that statement. Thumbs up if you agrss.

  • I love the kinks... But, think they aren't actually playing this... It's lip synced.

  • @ycleptic Yeah, it's lip synced, you can see the guitarplayer not playing in time from his hand movements...

  • This was back when the performers sang and the audience screamed. Nowadays, the singers scream.

  • Esta es una super rola.... de los 60´s... pero super rola.

Great, great song.... even now is one of my rock top 10 all times

  • lol wtf 41 dislikes to this song, what fucking arseholes , who know as much about proper music as my dog.

  • There's always that little bit of philosophy in a Kinks song ~ and a riff or phrase that sticks in the head.

  • Remember Shindig?

  • We girls went hitchhiking in the 60`to Hamburgh, saw a lot of the groups amazing time we grew up,we still hear the best music from that time, we are the lucky ones!!!!!!!

  • Im tired of waiting for a good at least one song to come out in this generation!!! after the 80s music went all down hill :((

  • @007jkirk DON'T HOLD YOUR BREATH....IT WILL NEVER BE THE SAME

  • @007jkirk *apart from nirvana

  • @frenchdude909 Yes, exactly. Nirvana was the last great band. They and the Kinks are actually my two favourites!

  • @007jkirk correction, 90's

  • @007jkirk Listen to Wilco. I Get where you're coming from but there is good music out there if you look for it. =)

  • @007jkirk It's really not that hard to find great songs after the 80's. You just have to have an open mind. Let me ask you this: Do you enjoy any Big Bands music? I do. it's different than this but no less good. It's the same with newer music. You can't keep expecting the same. Things change. Some for the better, and some not. Seek out the good and rejoice, because great music is alive and well.

  • @007jkirk The 80's were pretty shitty overall for music. The 90's were way better for creativity. I agrees that the present time is lacking in good music.

  • I am tired of waiting

  • when i was little i always wanted to form a classic rock band because they're all just fucking awesome .

  • I think I heard this song for the very first time yesterday, and wow, just wow! It's great, and timeless!

  • Well you're in luck, since the Kinks are one of the greatest bands ever, and they recorded hundreds of songs, many of them as good or better than this.

    @MowgliX

  • @mayasaunt Thank you, it's just great to be alive right now.

  • @mayasaunt Yes, and the old geezers are still around I believe.

  • its your life, and you can do what u want...

  • Terrific song! Very danceable!

  • These guys still have it

  • Hell Yeah!!!!!!!

  • yes. absolutely brilliant. but, what's wrong with screaming? that's what the birds did back then. they screamed. wish they did it now. that would be something.

  • Some of the most brilliant musicians ever, and these jackasses just stand there screaming.

  • It's nice to hear some bass cutting through the mix on some of these old classics. Listening on modern digitally remastered copies through some good headphones can reveal string nuances we could never hear back then.

  • @videomaniac108 Some of us could hear all the nuances back then - and we don't like it when the digital re masterers start 'cleaning up' old recordings. Luckily, it hasn't happened to the Kinks, but I have yet to hear an authentic version of Marianne Faithfull singing 'As Tears Go By'. That compelling drum that you could feel through the floorboards has almost been soft pedalled out altogether.

  • That was the most awkward use of a Flying V body i've ever seen. The song is still amazing though.

  • BASS IS HEAVY

  • Great melodic song !

  • you should listen to the "woodstock" version sung by the Flock

  • 0:58

Drummer who doesn't want to be there.

  • Green Day did an EXCELLENT cover of this song

  • We were in the 6th grade, and it was 1965. When Joe R., my first "boyfriend" asked me to "go steady" and wear his ID bracelet, this was the song that was playing, so it became "our song." We "broke up" 2 weeks later, but I still love this song!

  • What a brilliant song this was. In those days I was also a lonely soul :-) I sanged this so often in those teenager yrs. of mine.

  • Is it just me or does Dave Davis look a lot like Morrissey around 1:07

  • wow....Youtube.."mod squad-all day and all of the night"..top version!!!

  • the kinks could of been a better band than the beatles if only they had written better songs than them and been better looking. perhaps the kinks should of gone to the gym more, if they had six packs they could of taken over the pop world.x

  • @MrMegaduder Ha ha, I don't think the Beatles had six packs, but I understand the sentiment.

  • Hello, iconic song! Is that guitar a flying "V' ?? Thanks for the upload.

  • @SunnyDays951 yeah its a v

  • Damn, those girls are really into social comments

  • i don't care what anybody says, the nineteen sixties where the greatest time

  • @userboy6 this was a number 6 hit in 66

  • @userboy6 back then, people knew how to spell

  • It was the 60's, I was a young teen, and this music was our banner cus we hated the establishment, I still hate the establishment 40 plus yrs later lol

  • Nothing better!

  • what kinda trousers did they have on - don't leave much to the imaginations do they?

  • SONG GREAT WITHOUT SCEAMING,ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A POP STAR!!!!!

  • They have to be the original prog rock band...

  • who keeps lighting off the bottle rockets? i'm trying to enjoy this music

  • who keeps lighting off the bottle rockets? i'm trying to enjoy this music

  • Did this guy live on the moon.?

  • i knew a guy who kicked the kinks out of his club because he didn't know who they were lol

  • Please can any devoted Kinks fan's let me know of their favorite songs! I know the most famous ones but maybe songs you've encountered on albums??? Thank you!

  • @MissYay11 Who'll Be The Next In Line, Apeman, Superman.

Waterloo Sunset is, of course, the greatest song of all time.

  • I don't understand.. seems like there are two voices at the same time, but I see no second mic. Is it some kind of live Chorus effect?

  • @NeilJMontague sounds like reverb and delay through the board.

  • @NeilJMontague

Well, for one thing, they're lipsynching so what you see won't necessarily have anything to do with what or how it was recorded. Regarding the recording, back then there was no chorus effect available and what was often done was the singer would overdub his own voice, singing the melody twice on different tracks. The Beatles did this frequently.

  • Hate me all you want but I beg to differ as well, KInks did NOT sound anything like the Beatles, in my opinion Kinks were more raw! I like them better.

  • love this tune!

  • I feel this song in my bones. Please... I grow so tired of needing you when you don't love me back. Yeah, fuck off then.

  • No the Kinks are not the Beatles! Yet they were great non the less!!!

  • How the hell can someone say this sounds exactly like the Beatles? Shit, they aren't the only 60's band...

  • this song sounds exactly like The Beatles!!

  • @Nirvanamymusic This is nothing remotely like the Beatles.

  • @17DJLOVER why not? o.O

  • @17DJLOVER Totally different sound, vocals, harmony, production I cannot understand how anyone can think that these two bands sound similar.

  • If they draped the drum riser, could have gone with a KISS motif before there was a KISS band! hahaha The drum riser reminded me of Motley Crue's Tommy Lee as well. Noting the Gibson Flying V, Gibson instigated the great modern guitar era after much prodding from Mr. LES PAUL!! (RIP)

  • june 10 2011 Check how he plays the Flying V with his hand thru the V to strum, toooo cool, or what! If that Flying V is still in existence today, it would be around 47 years old, and worth a gold mine or two I suspect. Any guitarists out there who have a '64-'64 Flying V?

  • @hkyoutoob ,,,yeah, I somehow thought Jeff Watson invented that move! He's the most modern player to do it as a trademark

  • it sounds like only a couple of girls are singing the entire time and they like take 5 seconds to catch their breath

  • its thanks to the British pop music TV shows of the 1960s that the quality apperances can be appreciated , shows like the ones above with endless screaming where arranged by those who did not take pop music serious so siongs were ruined by silly screaming even at stars who did not appeal to ballad type songs the American market didnt have a clue. As was echoed by Pink Floyd when they came across American record companies who were totally lost as Floyd were not a 3 minute single band .

  • @justagog The screaming was genuine, not staged, ask the Beatles, it's real

  • @MetallicBill haha well I went to a beatles gig and could not hear them for screams
