Hey hellshade.. While bashing religion is one of my favorite Ewetoob pastimes I really despise the whole "atheist movement" nonsense.. It almost lends credence to their claims of it being like a religion.. almost. I don't consider atheism a "thing" that defines who I am nor do I wear it on my sleeve as a badge of honor. It's far simpler: You're a reasonably intelligent, educated adult with feet planted firmly in the 21st Century? Congratulations, you're an atheist..
True, but why impose your disbelief onto other's. One of atheist biggest complaints is about how Christians impose their beliefs upon others. Is this not the same tactic? We no longer have advertisements with the star of Abraham or little baby Jesus, so why do the feel they have the right to advertise this crap?
This is pretty stupid. I haven't noticed any religious statements plastered on busses. If you can spend 40k to promote your hate, than why not just stop whining and build your own atheist church. Not that it bothers me. To each his own. Just stop whining, ok?
ever see commercials for the church of later day saints? have jehovahs witness's knocking on your door wanting to talk to you? that's called advertising. do you see church shows on tv? that's advertising as well. i don't see any atheists with tv shows btw. as for promoting hate what hate do atheists promote? is the same hate christians have for gays? or atheists for that matter? i think you might want to think on your words just a little
Jehovah s Witnesss knocked on my door many times. Sometimes I invite them in just to hear them talk. In my experience, they've only tried to sell me on their reasons for loving God. Never once have they explicitly denounced atheists. You're welcome to your beliefs. But I don't get this whole anti-religious thing, and why atheists feel the need to demean and insult the beliefs of others. It just seems silly to me. Cry-baby nonsense. To each his own.
one of the points of being atheist is that its not an organized religion. you cant have a church if you don't worship something, so no. there will never be an atheist church. and if there is, those people are denying the basic principles of atheism.
I believe in to each his own. I dont waste my time trying to convert people to my beliefs. But if I did Id be sure to get my facts straight. Truth is Proposition 8 was passed by a majority of the voters in a general election.

I think that these advertisements are important in our democratic society and that riversonthemoon's comparison of atheists to NAMBLA is pretty ridiculous. The huge difference is that pedophilia is illegal. Being an atheist is not, therefore it's fair game for advertisement, just like churches advertise their beliefs everywhere

A billlboard like that would not make sense here but there are many christian advertisements here. When I go to work, I always find huge letters saying Jesus is the Lord in portuguese. Sometimes I get pamphlets from JWs and find an evangelical christian yelling the same thing everytime. Take in account atheists here don't have the problems american atheists have.

I have to turn my volume up to max just to hear you. And I have huge ears...
I agree on the bus ads. Yes it is a civil rights issue. And besides, God is either non-existant or chooses to hide from us. Either way it is not fair for the religions to be able to advertise when atheism is silenced. So let the ads roll...

While I agree with your sentiment that what is good for the goose is good for the gander and in a free society all views should be allowed to be expressed, I'm not sure this should be without limitation.
What if NAMBLA wished to advertise something along the lines of 'Boys need lovin', too!', wouldn't you be opposed to that?
I'm not comparing atheists to pedophiles, but I'm just pointing out that it can get complicated when one strongly disagrees with the message. Xtians might feel that way.
The harm principle does seem like a good way to sort out what should be allowed and what shouldn't and I hate playing devil's advocate here (I fully support the message on the buses) but I'm trying to imagine what a Christian would say to that and from their point of view, spreading a disbelief in God would be the ultimate in harm as it would doom many to eternal suffering.
Christians see avoiding that harm as trumping all others. I think this was perhaps the justification for the inquisition.
A practical difference there would be that paedophilia (as an example) has been tried and tested and legislated against. Freedom of religion on the other hand, has been positively legislated for. A tennet that Xtians seem to think applies only to them.
Well said bro.

The audio is kind of low in this video. You can adjust this in Windows Movie Maker or any other video clip editing software.
