My dad comes from germany and he lived not far away from Ulm in Bayern. So my family used to be there plenty of times. We saw several concerts there, Boney M had a concert located not far away from Ulmer Münster..
I was stationed in Ulm from 1987-1991. I almost considered it home for the length of time i was there. I took my dad to the top of the steeple. I don't remember all the fences etc being there when we went to the top. I hope to go back with my wife and see it again. Ulm and Bavaria are beautiful parts of Germany.
I'd been to this cathedral in December 1991. At that time, this cathedral underwent reconstruction or renovation. It was also wet and slippery so with two toddlers with me, I had no chance climbing up. Ulm is beautiful city in the south! Very impressive shots here. Memory revisited through this post. Thanks a lot.
I was there in 1980, climbed to the top and the bells started ringing right when i got to the bell room ,which by the way is NOT all the way at the top.
I climbed this tower with my parents in 1973(7 yrs old) and again in 1982(16 yrs old).Lived on Wiley Kaserne as a child 1972-75,you could see the Munster for miles around, and atop the Munster you could see for at least 20km,maybe more?
im sure it was special. Id love to have the opportunity myself. (Maybe one day)
What im wondering is:whats that last flight of spiral staircase to the third gallery like to climb. I bet you get an excellent sence of the height eventhough youre completely inside. It dosent look like youd want to trip and fall either!
It is a very narrow staircase with high narrow openings that are protected. Climbing the staircase you can look out over the city along the Gothic ornaments.
