Light and high tones are associated with the feminine; but there is nothing feminine about the boy's voice. It is weak, and yet at the same time strong; imperfect, and yet perfect. Had the boys made no mistakes, then neither would they have been boys. As it is, their standard is, as thou hast said thyself, awesome.

"Denn das Gesetz" is one of the Motets' very highest moments (along with that gorgeous "Gute Nacht"). The Tölzers really sing it with full-on humanity. I wish a good CD recording was available in America of their take on the Motets.

Considering their young age, they're astonishing. I really, really, really love Bach's motets. They make a light shine on me. For those who're looking for definitive versions, I recommend Philippe Herreweghe and his Collegium Vocale of Gent.
