  • I just bought the Yamaha KX61 what do I need to get it to run with reason 3.0? Because the factory Yamaha drivers are not working with reason! thanks :)

  • I was actually thinking of taking your advice and buying the yamaha, until you broke out the microkorg and said how awesome it was. That synth is probably the worst piece of equipment I've had ever. Keys are small and almost unusable, plus it just sounds plain awful. I've been needing a new controller for my Prophet 08 module and was looking at the Cme uf 50. I thought maybe the Yamaha was a cheaper alternative that would allow me more money to spend on analog effects. I'll do more research th

  • no ass...LOL

  • This is the best for its price

  • I need help! I bought this keyboard but cant get it to work i run on a pc windows 7 using cubase sx5 plz reply me i dont know how to set it for cubase

  • This might sound a dumb question but i'm very new into this. Does this keyboard have built-in sounds or we have to connect it to a computer to have sound?

  • @ekonomisty Don't know until you ask. But If you see "MIDI Controller" then it does not make its own sound.. it is used with an external (not included) sound source. You Control a synth or other sound source with a Controller. You can connect these to a PC with the USB connector on the back of the unit. You could also connect it via the MIDI connectors Remember to swap the connectors on the cable though if you go true MIDI cable (MIDI IN on keyboard goes to MIDI OUT on cable etc)

  • @narfy So if i want to have my keyboard to have own sounds should i buy a synthesizer or what?? Could you advise me an affordable keyboard with built in sounds? I'd really appreciate that. At the same time i want it to be as portable as possible.

  • @ekonomisty Correct. They also make rack mounted synthesizers or sound modules which these controllers can be connected to as well. The cheapest option you have is to get a MIDI Controller, connect it to your PC, and have it control a virtual synthesizer. There are tons of free, legal, synths from which to chose.. as well as expensive commercial ones... all depending on how serious you get. Check kvraudio or one of the other online information sites if you need lots of help.

  • Is it possible to trigger patch changes on the Korg (or other modules like the JV2080) using the assignable knobs on the Yamaha Controller? The changes on my JV are channels 0 and 32, but I can't get the Yamaha to scroll through the patches.

  • ve they got after tourch

  • how do u connect it with jv 1080

  • Do you know whether it still works with Pro Tools LE??

  • does it work with fl studio

  • you are relaxed...

    almost a bob ross

    Thankz for this excellent review@!

  • it is no longer available. WHY? is there a better new model?

  • wow. how much did all this stuff put together cost and where did you buy them from?

  • Does it work well with reason?

  • Hopefully someone can reply and answer that for you. All I have ever used it with is Pro tools and Cubase. Sorry I couldn't help.

  • @derracsdl how much does it cost

  • @sa1imtheking The best MIDI keyboard for reason is the Akai MPK series. I have one and its the best in terms of controls on the keyboard.

  • I'm so happy with mine...Oh boy great controller besides being an yamaha product I also use Fm7, Loung lizard, Evp73, korg wavestation, NI B4, CV80, Reason 4 sampletank 2.X and a vast sound library...Rsssss and yes Yamaha controller rocks quite durable so much fun!

  • If your referring to the M-Audio Axiom, I would say that the Axiom has better keys and more of a piano feel. However the KX 61 is less expensive and offers more features. The KX 61 also comes with a lot of software. I have the Axiom 25 and prefer the KX even over the Axiom 61. But keep in mind that the KX doesn't have drum pads.

  • dude the DigiPerf daw isn't Pro Tools. It's MOTU Digital Performer

  • Yeah your right man. I was tired and up all night when I made that video. I realized later that I also said compression mic instead of condenser mic.

  • ..and you said rewind right and rewind wrong, oh wait I mean left and right.

anyways, thanks for the informative video nonetheless! Cheers.

  • VEry useful :)

  • how are the velocity curves on that thing. true to yamaha quality or just another midi controller. expressiveness dynamics etc?

  • The velocity is awesome. You have fixed which can of course be set from standard (1-127) but you also have soft1, soft 2, normal, hard1 and hard 2. The velocity is in my opinion is so easy to get used to and it is very player friendly.

  • is it pretty piano like?

what about the action on the keys?

  • While it's definitely more synth like than piano like, the action on the keys is excellent.

If you want an even better piano feel, go for the Yamaha KX-8 instead. More keys and fully weighted too if I'm not mistaken.

  • does the Yamaha KX61 work with Fl Studio?

  • use cubase its way better man

  • but why don't you use your KX to control de MicroKorg ?

  • I use my KX for my VSTi's and my emu xboard 49 is a dedicated controller for the microkorg. This way I can play bass lines with left hand on the emu and play synth leads on the kx with my right hand. Its just easier to produce that way in my opinion.

  • thanks for info :)

i just had a kx61 too, playing with it :) and learned with your video :) thanks a lot :)

  • great video, thanks for it :)

  • It would be nice if the room u filmed it had more light!!

  • I know right, The weird thing is that I had an overhead light on and two lamps on when I filmed that. Even during the video I turn on a third lamp and for some reason the left side of the controller was still blacking out. Now i understand why lighting is movies can be so difficult.

  • Where did you buy it? And how much did it cost?

  • I got mine from musicians friend. When I bought it I paid $289.00 but it is on sale now for $199.00

  • derracsdl, i am using a PC, and my KX61 is showing up as a midi connection in FL8 but i still cant get it to work, im pressing the keys but no sounds are coming out

  • yo i love ur studio set up brah

  • Thanks Man

  • no prb..hows the cubase ai ..it came with my kx but i had problems registering it so i quit ..lol...i use FL..but i wanna step my game up with at least cubase

  • Register Cubase AI and use it. The KX was designed specifically for that version of cubase and together they work flawlessly. However I have had problems with Cubase since I installed Snow Leopard on my Mac.

  • get pro tools instead, thats what i'm saving for

  • is betta right?

  • yea pro tools is what everyone in the "industry" use when u trying to sell beats

  • I have the Yamaha KX61 and im trying to use it with FL Studio 8, but i cant get it to work, any advice?

  • My first question is are you using a PC or a Mac running windows as a virtual PC? Second is your KX61 even showing up as a midi connection in FL8.

  • derracsdl, i am using a PC, and my KX61 is showing up as a midi connection in FL8 but i still dont know how to get it to work

  • Did you even installed the driver>>??

  • alright ill try it one more time lol lets see how it goes

  • So can I play the KX61 without a computer?

Can I play it through an amp?

  • The KX61 is a midi controller not a synth. It has no sounds built in. You can use a computer or a sound module to get your sounds. It does come with cubase AI and a huge library of VST instruments(sounds).

  • wait thers no Reason 4.0 :(

  • No there is no template for Reason, But remember you can manually assign any transport and function buttons by using midi learn inside Reason.

  • im getting one too CME fuked me in the ass by not making a vista driver i been midiLess for almost a year (the economy) but im getting this thanks to this video i hope they make a driver for Windows 7

  • im getting mine in a few days i cant wait...good review
