  • Is Christina Chen a Philippino?

  • 我觉得香港政府应该充分尊重各界的意见,同时我反对大陆干涉香港政府的决策。

  • there are so many issue with the plan

    the location of the station

the cost have gone up by 50% from last year

basically the tactics from the Government are i have enough votes so we dont need to listern to public opinion

its not whether to build the railway or not...ITS HOW SHOULD WE DO IT

  • This is just a catalyst of social discontent growing in Hong Kong. Many people in HK see the appointed government as stealing from the middle and lower classes just to feed the mega-rich corporations. This combined with a few social issues such as rocketing real estate and lowering family incomes have given the people an excuse to focus their anger and discontent.

  • This is indeed the curse of free speech and internet. It distorts and use by the West to cause havoc. The problem is not fully understood. Self interest expressed by the old man cannot be allowed to prevend the country from moving forward.

Is there a need for a railway? Is there corruption? Is it too high tech? Is it too expensive? These are more important issues rather than democracy, universal suffrage etc.

  • The government cannot assume it knows best. "Moving forward" could in fact be "moving backward". Mao thought he was moving the country forward when he launched the Cultural Revolution, when in fact he moved the country backward many years.

$66 billion is way too much and there are cheaper ways of building the railway which are just as effective (if not more so). Finally, who gets control of the land in West Kowloon? No one has said anything.

  • 7boon, We re talking about a railway link. We do not know enough to know whether Mao's revolution is good or bad for China. One thing I know is without China, HK will not be enjoying its prosperity today.

Now let's get back to our topic. Is the railway necessary? I don't think the HK to Shenzhen section should cost $66 bn. (HK/US??). Are you lumping in the whole project?

Control of West Kowloon is in the hands of SAR. Remember, UK leased the NT from China and not from HK.

  • china help hk??????

one thing i know is without hong kong, china will not be prosperity.

  • dorialee00

I agree with you that without HK China will not be prosperous.

  • Why?i would love know how HK makes China prosperous?

I thought HK thrived when China opened up?

  • BafflinBook

I suppose Dorialee is thinking that a lot of HK invested in China but she forgot the amount of spending the Chinese poured in HK apart from its hugh hinterland. Well in the next 40 years HK will go back to China.

  • HK is already been back to china for many years

  • Thank you. Actually what I meant is the two system will dissappear in 40 years time. So some people in HK are still clinging on to the idea when HK was under Britain.

  • Is it a maglev train or just a rail...?

  • 170km /h maglev train =_=

  • There comes the downfall a once great economic city. :-(

  • wow finally we can voice our views on Aljazeera I was beginning to think this Propaganda news organization!!

  • 2:00

Wouldn't HK be socialist if they keep ignoring democracy? 民賤聯最無恥!!

  • false dichotomy.

  • @7boon

Actually, without a democratic power structure there is no Socialism!!

  • democracy is for a multiracial and multicultural society, not these people

  • hk is a multiracial and multicultural city, u asshole. there are many westerners and indians living there. even hk is not a multiracial and multiculturalcity , we can still have democracy. wt on earth are u thinking??

  • @mskaren987

If you did think HK is so multicultural,I wonder why you honkers hate socialism and communism that much.Isn't communism some kind of culture?

  • @tobeornot00

If that wasn't a joke, can you please give us an example of a multicultural place in the world?

Also, I am pretty sure there are at least some socialists and communists in Hong Kong.

  • What do you know AlJazera is letting people put comments :) How nice of them.

  • what do you mean?

  • I agree. I have wanted to comment numerous times on stories, but wasn't able to. Maybe it'll help attract more views?
