Good question...I watched the movie the other night, and if I'm not mistaken (I've got this video muted cuz I'm at work, so maybe they're saying something that contradicts me), the WOD was a squat clean to overhead. I think the squat clean was the only mandatory move, everything else was discretionary.
The rules stated only the need to lock out the weight overhead. Since Jason is insanely strong he did not need to jerk the weight, hence his faster time (less ROM).
those reps do not count. pause some of the reps you will see clearly. the rules:
The finish position is with the arms, hips and knees fully extended, arms overhead, with at least a portion of the ear visible in front of the arm. Dropping the barbell is acceptable.
the arms, knees and hips were not fully extended. parts of it were but not all at once
jcebedo.....I understand your concern, please watch my full video on youtube I think it will give you a better representation of my ROM. Thank you for your input..I just posted the video last night
Jason, thanks for your video. It appears to be a better view both for extension of elbows and getting your head through... much better then the one here. There will always be detractors, great win and congrats.
some of his reps don't appear to lockout completely. Amazing effort none the less, but it doesn't look like jason obtains full ROM on some of the reps. possibly a better angle or video quality would change that.
I will have a better video posted soon, this one was not mine someone else put it up. The video I will put out has my entire workout so you can see the ROM which I understand does not seem very complete in this video
The goal of "Grace" is to get it from the ground to overhead in anyway possible. What an effort. I only wish I was there to witness it in person! Ditto on the Pat Barber pre-race favorite in 2009.
Khalipa, you're a beast, man. Congratulations. That looked like one herculean effort.
Props go out to all the competitors in my book, though... anyone who has a first-hand clue about what CrossFit is can only have tremendous respect for you all.
As impressive as this is, its even more impressive that Jason was able to stay within striking distance through the first 3 events that favored the smaller guys! Awesome job everyone! Early prediction for next year. . . .Pat Barber!
Well, the burpees with them were definitely a factor and probably were the majority of everyone's time in the event, so it might not have been an advantage to smaller guys, but its wasn't a disadvantage considering the smaller guys got the best times in the event!
whoever is shouting "go Jason go" a million times during this three minute clip I have to say is probably the most annoying person EVER! Kick ass job Jason.
jason you crazy beast im glad that you took that event im just bummed that because you won it, it knocked me to third! im kidding man way to kill it buddy. Ill see you this weekend.
I am just glad someone who wasn't favored to win took it on the last event. The fact it was the UGLIEST C&J in the world makes it even better! What makes it the best is that we won't have to hear about 2 minute Fran times for a for a while because everyone's world apparently was turned upside because they had to touch chest to bar. Dude, great victory! It's good to see someone that doesn't weigh 120 pounds excel at CF.
ok that sounded rude and i didn't mean it to. Definitely a crazy performance, I couldn't believe the time when i saw it posted. Maybe I am wrong here, but I thought a clean and jerk was not the same movement, and by that I mean the clean is performed, and then there is a jerk, not the clean goes right into an overheard press. Still, he ripped through that weight, impressive, just not sure about c&j rules.
You would be correct about the clean and jerk being two defined movements. This would be considered a squat clean into a push press. Hard to tell in the video how the other competitors performed their movement, but I did see some jerk movements. No doubt he is incredibly strong to press that much weight 30 times in 2:38.
If you take Speal, at 135lbs lifting 155lbs. He would almost have to do a jerk movement, as the jerk is a more powerful move, but takes more time to complete than a press.
The barbell goes from ground to overhead, passing through a front squat in which the crease of the hip passes below the height of the kneecap. The finish position is with the arms, hips and knees fully extended, arms overhead, with at least a portion of the ear visible in front of the arm. Dropping the barbell is acceptable.
He is dropping late but it doesn't matter per the rules, maybe it was faster or easier for him to do it that way. The rules didn't say you had to do any specific type of jerk motion/split or separate the movements, so I guess it's fine to thrust/push press/press it up like that rather than doing a pause. Definitely powerful. congrats.
impressive athletes. does anyone know if there is drug testing at these games?

This was about pure speed and clearly, the technique was the right one. He CRUSHED the competition!
