They DON'T know if GM food is safe, you think they would tell you openly if it wasn't? No.

Listen man, aside from the immense ecological reprecussions GM crops can affect, factors scientists may not even fully comprehend as of yet which may lead to chain reactions/collapse, there is also Soil Quality. Just because the genes have been meddled with and you spray more war chemicals on them doesnt mean they will produce higher yield in long-term.

If they're sooo safe, why are these companies supporting legislation to ban backyard growing? Why are they contributing to a loss in seed bio diversity thru bully monopoly tactics and ruining small farmers with patent infringement when it's THEIR GMO seed that has contaminated fields seeded with HEIRLOOM seed varities. GMO crops and Terminator seeds (seeds sterile at first harvest) are all part of control, profit. The well being of starving populations doesn't even factor in with these crooks

The process of GMing food is much like rape. After you penetrate it with foreign substances like modified virus genes, gold particles and others, with no research proving long term health effects, you CONTAMINATE pure seeds.

Seeds evolving and cultivated for generations, even ages, until BigAgri like Monsanto patents it, bans anyone from growing it, and lets it go extinct. Then they hand you they termintor crops with chemical triggers in the DNA, and tell you it's safe?!?

In additions these scientists are messing with organisms all the way down the food chain. What happens to the organism that depend on the natural growth of plants? Many animals, beneficial and important to our world, will die as a result of changing their foods DNA? As well, many new parasites may attack and flourish with these changes.

I realize that some good outcomes do occur as a result releasing Genetically Modified (GM) foods into nature.

... BUT, when one of these live experiments in nature goes wrong, who will be responsible.

The point here is that nature has a very good way of keeping things moving forward. SLOW, NATURAL genetic changes along with natural selection is the way nature itself works. To introduce TURBO-CHARGE genetic mutations will only create unknown, and potentially lethal organisms and results..

Christ! If you'll pardon the expression. Think, if we have discovered the structure of DNA, why not take the benefits of this to engineer (rather than merely splice together) better plants. Scientifically this is a no brainer but the objections are verging on the silly.

I think people are irritated with GM because no one explains genetic engineering to the public. People are scared about its capabilities because they don't understand its limitations. With a Masters in Immunology, I have to debunk so many health myths, and I like Joe's simple explanation.
