Hmmm, he is really talented..... the band behind him are a million times more talented, hes just rambling into the mic, ask yourself if you honestly couldnt do what he is doing on this stage, if not, then you need to think more of yourselfs
@shawndimery if you can't see his talent then you are either blinded by the fact that he isn't the greatest looking guy in the world or you have never heard any of his song writing for the pogues. the guy has undeniable talent, one of the greatest songwriters ever.
@GoingToPasalacqua12 one of the greatest songwriters ever? Does he really compare to Neil Young? Bob Dylan? Cat Stevens? Tom Petty? Tom Waits? I just cant see his talent, this is not a good song, this is not in the league of any of the greats, and you know it. Its just a pissed guy rambling to a senseless tune you forget almost immediately.
@shawndimery not only does he compare to them but he far surpasses them, just take a minute and listen to the likes of "fairytale of new york" (you've likely heard that one anyway) or "a rainy night in soho", fucking brilliant song's. and on your last point your way off, macgowan didn't write this, this one is a traditional Irish song which has been sung for years.
@GoingToPasalacqua12 Great songs indeed, I am interested in his his music, im not a troll (thats why im watching this vid!) Can you recomend any albums for me?
@shawndimery my personal favourite is "Red Roses for Me", but you can't fault "Rum, Sodomy and The Lash" or "If I Should Fall From Grace With God", also the EP "Poguetry In Motion" is worth checking out. let me know what you think of these if you do listen to them. cheers for being open minded
@GoingToPasalacqua12 Cool, I will definately check them out, I greatly admire good music and was curious to see if Shane lived up to his name, this vid was my first impression is all, thanks for the suggestions my friend.
@shawndimery I saw Shane in L.A. @ the House of Blues in 1998 and I tell you this guy delivers. One of the best shows I have been to. He staggered on stage, the mic stand held him up, while he performed one of the greatest lyrically sound performances I have yet to witness..never missed a beat...flawless. It was amazing to witness. Of course the band (the popes) kicked ass as well. Definitely check him out before HE "checks out". Not to sure how long his liver will hold up. Hopefully much longer
Shane's cool. Rollins is a self-important, sanctimonious POS who would sell his own line of "punk" to Wal-Mart if it offered the right price. The world would be a better place if Rollins crashed his Humvee into a rock wall while taking a sip of coffee. Rollins has minimized himself into a pious Mountain Dew commercial. No need for "spoken word" from that. MacGowan>>>>>>>Rollins.
@SuperJulia1989 It's not sad. If that's how he chooses to live out his life I'm happy he can do that and may he never be with out a beer. that's coming from a non-Drinking yet ALCOHOLIC on the methadone clinic. If you took his beer away he may never write another sentence or sing another note. Oh, but he'd be here longer. That's selfish.
Well neither of the people you mentioned have 1/8th the songwriting ability of Shane. Not to mention anywhere near the coolness. Shane is notoriously awful alcoholic and has been for years. It's a miracle he's still a alive. But thats why we love him! Steven Tyler is a clown. Tom Petty is ok, but please. Neither one of them should ever be mentioned along with the greatness of Shane MacGowan!!!
@xabrasionx dude i wasnt saying anything bad about him dont get me wrong i was just proving a point to all the ppl that were saying wow what a fool and what a dick head he is........i was just stickin up for him lol i love this guy i guess i worded it wrong sorry
Shane's not in his worst chape here, and it's enjoyable to listen to but compared to the old version with Pogues and the Dubliners from this is not great.. but still... can't question the man's genious :)
sounds like Ozzy

Shane has made himself immortal in song. He will continue to live well after he inevitably dies of the gargle.
