@ImmortalConcept There's a lot of good folk metal bands out there for if you're new to folk metal, see for example Falkenbach (my fav song of theirs = Baldurs Tod), Eluveitie (my fav is tegernako), Tyr (my fav is Sinklars Visa) and some others. Finntroll is among the best though.
@cilibinarii I am really liking Finntroll the most. And after that, Ensiferum and Korpiklaani (Keep On Galloping is my favorite song so far). Me and some friends have just been trying out some folk.
@ImmortalConcept Korpiklaani also does folk metal, so that probably explains the absence of death metal in that song ;) By the way, check Equilibrium's "Blut im Auge", that's also an epic song (:

I can't stop listening to their 2010 album Nifelvind. But, I just wish more had that death growl approach to it! That'd be awesome if there were more.
@ImmortalConcept I personally don't like purely growled songs that much, it is nice sometimes but only when it has proper instrumental work to support it. For non-growling epicness you should check out Tyr's song "Sinklar's Visa". It isn't as quick-paced as most Viking/Folk metal, but it still qualifies ;)
@cilibinarii I like them either purely sung or purely growled, for the most part. It makes the song feel more solid in my opinion. But, that's how I feel about it. Opeth can mix between singing and growling very well, I think! And one or the other vocal doesn't sound generic and just thrown in for the hell of it. On the other hand, bands like Obscura and The Faceless are amazing musicians, but their singing feels tacked on. But, other than that, I think they are very talented!
@ImmortalConcept Although I probably sound like a metal-barbarian now, I have only heard of those bands you named, never actually listened to them. There's also good instrumental metal artists by the way, check out Apocalyptica (song Hope) and Jelonek (song Lorr).
@cilibinarii I am wanting to learn cello, but not much into the crossovers. It sounds best to me solo. In my opinion. Hopefully one day I can play it. But, yeah... If you want an instrumental by one of the bands I listed, try Orbital Elements by Obscura. But their songs with vocals are also amazing! It has Necrophagist's guitarist and drummer in it.

Well, no, that is a false assumption. My cultural inheritage may be far from non secular, in the sense that it's been influenced by Christian tradition, but that has nothing to do with "the way [I] think", that is, my given mindset.
Again, religion invokes absolutism. That is the main root of the civil problems that Islam entails.

It's not just the historical origin of the religions that share a common line, the ethics and doctrines of the religions are practically the same in the sense that all three religions advocate for the same things (though hypocritical), and the litterature have a lot in common. All in all, the theological differences are trivial in a practical sense.

No they're not. Judaism considers Jesus a heretic (the jews are waiting for their messiah to this very day and thus only accept the Old Testament as their rules) and Islam considers him a prophet (albeit respected).
Practice relies on the central deity's commandments and these are wastly different in all 3 of them.

What I'm saying is that all three Abrahamistic religions teaches the same moral values, and has practically the same conception of life. Read the Wikipedia article I gave you before. And that is essentially what matters when you're discussing the impact of religion from a societal point of view.

Your thesis may be valid from a cultural point of view, in the sense that some cultural impacts were made, but the fact remains that morals do not come directly from religion. Moral philosophy has been secular, and it has shaped our norms and viewpoints to the better, through the ages. Not because of scripture, but because of the need for inquiry, political welfare, and other significant social factors.

I must say, you guys need to calm down a bit. Nothing good comes out of internet arguments anyway. I consider myself a atheist, but I am fascinated by religions like Buddhism and Taoism. One of my best friends is a Christian, and we both agree that music is one thing, and religion another. I have no problems with religious people, but you all have to understand that not all shares your beliefs. Can we all please just enjoy this great song now?

@ImmortalConcept There's a lot of good folk metal bands out there for if you're new to folk metal, see for example Falkenbach (my fav song of theirs = Baldurs Tod), Eluveitie (my fav is tegernako), Tyr (my fav is Sinklars Visa) and some others. Finntroll is among the best though.

I can't stop listening to their 2010 album Nifelvind. But, I just wish more had that death growl approach to it! That'd be awesome if there were more.

@ImmortalConcept I personally don't like purely growled songs that much, it is nice sometimes but only when it has proper instrumental work to support it. For non-growling epicness you should check out Tyr's song "Sinklar's Visa". It isn't as quick-paced as most Viking/Folk metal, but it still qualifies ;)

@cilibinarii I like them either purely sung or purely growled, for the most part. It makes the song feel more solid in my opinion. But, that's how I feel about it. Opeth can mix between singing and growling very well, I think! And one or the other vocal doesn't sound generic and just thrown in for the hell of it. On the other hand, bands like Obscura and The Faceless are amazing musicians, but their singing feels tacked on. But, other than that, I think they are very talented!

If you want an instrumental by one of the bands I listed, try Orbital Elements by Obscura. But their songs with vocals are also amazing! It has Necrophagist's guitarist and drummer in it.

But really Pagans did kill a lot of people too, not for disagreeing with their beliefs neccesarily but for example Aztec human sacrifice, or the Viking religion which encourages killing and rapeing. Christians didn't invent using religion as an excuse to prosecute others who thought differently, that's been around forever.

I'm deeply offended by many of the comments posted on this video. Despite being of Catholic decent and following the faith itself, I have the utmost respect for people of other religions and their beliefs. It sickens me to see two or more humans arguing about something so irrelevant on such a good song. It also makes me sad and hurt to see other people singling out a whole group of people as terrible people, especially since I don't do that to Pagan's. Lets all enjoy the music now!
