That's an intelligent statement and I'd ask your pardon for me stating this.

I want to explain that in some cases it is clear when an action is appropriate, and in some cases, it is not so clear. With bullying it is often not perceived when a certain threshold of tolerability of an action has been crossed.

In MY perspective, reading aloud personal notes of children IS crossing this threshold because it MAY hurt them.

I'm not a teacher. But I'm quite sure that "public humiliation" is not on the top of the list of actions to be taken when children do wrong.

I don't think it matters if you or me can stand being treated like that. I think it matters that it concerns children that may potentially feel hated by the teacher.

I think of children as emotionally overloaded, irrational beings that MAY take such matters VERY seriously.

However, I also think they're not made of glass, in my opinion, a teacher reading a student's note is not such a big deal compared to: 1. sending him to the principal's office, 2. detention; both which I would consider overreaction. We all go through difficult situations during childhood and most of us survive, I think this punishment would fall into that category, not bullying.

But what about taking the message away, placing it on the front desk and (optionally) telling the kid to fetch his note after the course? (For some reason I believe 'course' is not the right word in a primary school, but I'm no native speaker so I don't come up with a better word. :D)

Besides, in the commercial, I got the feeling that this was an "expected" punishment, like, if you pass notes during class, the teacher will read it aloud because that's the school policy. That's what it felt like, at least, when I first watched it, as if he accepted his punishment 'cause it was what was expected. I guess that's what I think is most appropriate, 'cause If you do something wrong you already know what you're in for.
