Abdul-Jabbar outproduced Jordan in every area but one, had the same number of rings and more regular season MVPs. Kareem DOES INDEED have the resume to be considered the G.O.A.T. For once, you've actually said something that has merit. Russell's accomplishment as a pro is undeniable, but lets put 'em in their proper context. He didn't dominate both sides of the ball, MJ did. In his BEST season, he only avg'd 18ppg on 46.3 FG%. MJ consistently avg'd 30+ & shot 50+% as a GUARD, and in the most defensive era in NBA history.
Russell only played to age 34. MJ played til age 40 & was QUITE effective at that..
U also fail to point out that when Russell's celtics were winning titles, MOST of ‘em came in the early history of a struggling league, which only had 9 teams, and they played a MUCH SHORTER schedule & had NO teams west of Minneapolis until the Lakers moved to L.A.
Back then, a team ONLY had to win 2 playoff series to win a title. Two of the their titles came against teams with LOSING records, something that's inconceivable in the modern era.

They named it after Russell.

Jordan also played in the most defensive dominant era, and with the amount of teams, it makes it much more difficult to win that many times.
The Celtics played in a 9-league team, being the most heavily stacked talented team as well, that helps alot. This is why I give Jordan's 6 rings more push.

Bill Russell dominates every era in terms of championships. Nobody in team sports has more than his 11 NBA titles. Second on the list is Sam Jones, Russell's teammate with 8. The only gun that can compare to Russell is Yogi who won 10 World Series titles with the Yankees. Jordan can't make any legit claim when he only has 6 rings in 16 seasons versus Russell's 11 rings in 13 seasons. Twice as many in three fewer seasons. Russell even has more NCAA titles than Jordan.

Bill Russell dominated his era in terms of ships, no doubt about it. He was arguably the most dominant defensive player ever.
However he wasn't nearly as good on the offensive end. He only averaged 44% from the field for his career (and he's a big man!!!). On top of that he only shot 56.1% from the free thrown line and only averaged 15.1 ppg for his career.
Jordan had a MUCH better blend of both defensive AND offensive skills.

Duncan, Shaq n Kobe all were offensive and defensive leaders for their teams. That's why they are comparable (on top of the fact that they all have 4 ring). IMO have to take into account.... Rings Finals MVP's PPG FG% RPG APG BPG SPG and turnovers per game. On top of that u have to take into account how much they did for their team and what their role was.
Russell won 11 championships in 13 years as a pro. And I'll leave out the back to back NCAA titles he led San Franscisco too. He won his first NBA title in his second season. Took Jordan 7 years to finally get a ring. Magic won his first ring as a rookie. Kareem in his second seaon won his first. Russell 11 titles in 13 seasons. Jordan 6 rings in 16 seasons. Russell by a mile. Not even close. If Jordan was so great, why did he only win 6 NBA titles?

Kareem DOES INDEED have the resume to be considered the G.O.A.T. For once, you've actually said something that has merit. Russell's accomplishment as a pro is undeniable, but lets put 'em in their proper context. He didn't dominate both sides of the ball, MJ did. In his BEST season, he only avg'd 18ppg on 46.3 FG%. MJ consistently avg'd 30+ & shot 50+% as a GUARD, and in the most defensive era in NBA history.
Russell only played to age 34. MJ played til age 40 & was QUITE effective at that..

U also fail to point out that when Russell's celtics were winning titles, MOST of ‘em came in the early history of a struggling league, which only had 9 teams, and they played a MUCH SHORTER schedule & had NO teams west of Minneapolis until the Lakers moved to L.A.
Back then, a team ONLY had to win 2 playoff series to win a title. Two of the their titles came against teams with LOSING records, something that's inconceivable in the modern era.

I don't refute Russell winning 11 rings, however you never take the account that he played in a league with 9 teams. Jordan played in the most competitive era...the 80's and 90's. Jordan also played in the most defensive dominant era, and with the amount of teams, it makes it much more difficult to win that many times.
The Celtics played in a 9-league team, being the most heavily stacked talented team as well, that helps alot. This is why I give Jordan's 6 rings more push.

If I'm not mistaken they were only like 8 teams in the whole NBA during Russel's time and the chances of winning the championship was more than double of that of Jordan lol. Bill Russell dominates every era in terms of championships. Nobody in team sports has more than his 11 NBA titles. Second on the list is Sam Jones, Russell's teammate with 8. The only gun that can compare to Russell is Yogi who won 10 World Series titles with the Yankees. Jordan can't make any legit claim when he only has 6 rings in 16 seasons versus Russell's 11 rings in 13 seasons. Twice as many in three fewer seasons. Russell even has more NCAA titles than Jordan.

You have a "decent" point. I think your missing at least one key component in your arguement....Personnel!!!! Only in college does Jordan have the edge on most HOFrs. As far as personnel, its not even a contest! How many HOFs did they play with? Cousy, Heinsohn, Sharman, Sam and KC Jones, Ramsey, Havlicek, Lovellette. Yogi's teams were just as good! DiMaggio, Rizzuto, Mize, Martin, Ford, Mantle.

So far the 21st century has belonged to; Shaq n Duncan (both w/multiple rings AND multiple Finals MVP Awards).
Right now everybody is pushing Kobe n Lebron as the next Jordan. The thing is Jordan (unlike Kobe n Lebron) was w/out comparison the greatest of his generation.

Bill Russell dominated his era in terms of ships, no doubt about it. He was arguably the most dominant defensive player ever.
However he wasn't nearly as good on the offensive end. He only averaged 44% from the field for his career (and he's a big man!!!). On top of that he only shot 56.1% from the free thrown line and only averaged 15.1 ppg for his career.
Jordan had a MUCH better blend of both defensive AND offensive skills.

Russell won 11 championships in 13 years as a pro. And I'll leave out the back to back NCAA titles he led San Franscisco too. He won his first NBA title in his second season. Took Jordan 7 years to finally get a ring. Magic won his first ring as a rookie. Kareem in his second seaon won his first. Russell 11 titles in 13 seasons. Jordan 6 rings in 16 seasons. Russell by a mile. Not even close. If Jordan was so great, why did he only win 6 NBA titles?
