I recently took a trip down memory lane and have something to report. Mr. Obama is a politician (made promises he didn't keep, took money from people he shouldn't have). I'm starting to agree with Bill on this. Generally I like to reach across the aisle and try to achieve some kind of bipartisan cooperation, but I don't think that's possible with Republicans today. And anyway, politicians have never properly followed the Keynesian doctrine. Governments can borrow during a slump to support the economy by invested in infrastructure and capital goods. But Governments must pay back the debt during the good years to avoid long-term economic distortion and put them back into a strong position for when the next crisis occurs.

I recently took a trip down memory lane and have something to report. Mr. Obama is a politician (made promises he didn't keep, took money from people he shouldn't have). But he's also fulfilled or tried to or is trying to fulfill most of his campaign promises. I'm starting to agree with Bill on this. Generally I like to reach across the aisle and try to achieve some kind of bipartisan cooperation, but I don't think that's possible with Republicans today. Democrats need to actually play the game their way and show what they've really got instead of continually caving in to Republicans. I think that Democrats lost a lot of America when they started turning away from fighting for the working person - they need to regain that edge.

Let's be clear: Obama is a centrist. He's not a progressive liberal who is just playing politics. He is a centrist and that's why he's weak. There was a bit of hope when he got some (underwhelming) healthcare and financial reform passed. Then he introduced a stimulus with more tax cuts and now he has allowed the Republicans to crash the economy by scaring the world over a non-issue that became a global crisis. I've always dreaded the day I'd have to admit he's just better than the alternative
