  • This is for sale for about $200 in Canada. Is this a fair price? I see some for $140 in America. Mags $17. Whats a good price for all this in Canada? (if anyone knows)

  • I just bought the stainless cmmg and it came with 3 black dog 25 rd mags for 220.00 even. I love it and im sure my neighbors do as well. Works great in my bushmaster with our any malfunctions.

  • how cool is that. I guess it works fine with any. 223 barrel. my only problem might be my Adams arms piston kit that I have on my ati upper. I'm not sure if it's intended only for A DI gun

  • @cobrachoppergirl the military does not sell seconds to walmart or the public. The military contracts the m4 and m16 to colt, sabre, fn and such. The military doesnt use ar15s. The only thing the military sell to the public that is still being used are blemished or not to spec ammo from thier lake city plant.

  • Nice video. I want to get a conversion for my M&P 15. Isn't one of the points of red dot sights to help people who are cross eye dominant so they can keep both eyes open?

  • I wouldn't call shooting a $1100+ rifle... cheap... $900 AR-15 that failed Quality Control check for the militalry, so sold through Walmart... about the cheapest way you can get one... then add the $200 for the 22 bolt and barrel. Then add in another what.. $200 for a red dot scope? $1300 is an obsene amount to spend on a 22 rifle to go plinking. I got my 22 for $75 used, its tube fed, and no misfeeds. An AR-15 with bolt conversion is about the most expensive way you could go.

  • Same barrel?

  • good video , you guys have a cool life style , lucky you

  • indeed it shall.

  • Your girl is bangin

  • Stag arms left hand uppers are bout $750 22 conversion kit $220

  • how much was that colt? The ones i am looking at are around $1200-1500... Expensive!!

  • @Mrjalapenothethird I think I got a steal on the upper at around $700. Sold the whole thing WITH the conversion for $1300 a couple years back.

  • @pastorebbs just wanted to say thanks for the review 150 bucks 1 cmmg bolt and 3 mags later i couldnt be happier. me and my cop buds practice drills on thier off days and everyone that shoots it goes and buys one. we have run it in every make model custom built ar15 type dogging them with cheap ammo notched hammers not 1 failure!

  • @mwjenkinz69 Really glad to hear an "after" story. Did you go with the stainless model as well? It's what we went with and I've heard that it cleans much easier than the plain steel model. With your approval I fully intend to use this on a testimonials page on our main site haus of guns dot com.

  • @pastorebbs no stainless i drop the bolt in "solvent", rem oil it, and slam it back in quick and easy. i use it mostly w/a c15 plumcrazy lower little easier to clean but i knew what i was getting into.(boresnakes help alot). i have noticed the part that enters the chamber has started to wear off the coating which isnt a big deal as long as it functions i dont care about cosmetics. testimonials-by all means it helps me to know which products out there are worth the investment.

  • what heritage is that woman ?

  • @Perseiden2 "That Woman" aka my wife is a blend of several different ethnicities. Care to guess them?

  • Combination .223 Rem/.22LR vs. Combination magazine reloader/sandwich maker/dish washer. Hmmm....Which one to invest in first???

  • Awesome video!

What size barrel do you have on your AR? im building one and cant decide if i should go with a full 20 inch or a 16 inch mid length carbine

  • @elementfreak431 The 5.56 upper on that particular rifle is a 20" HBAR (heavy barrel) Colt Match Grade. I'd say between the 20 or 16 it just depends on what you want to use it for. The AR in the video is VERY heavy thanks to the length and weight of the barrel. If you're looking to do any type of training or lots of practice I'd suggest something lighter and more enjoyable to haul around.

  • Sweet vid, sweet gun, sweet shooting!... whats the name of that song though?

  • @AllGunsConsidered It's Come to Life by Alter Bridge. Thanks for the props :)

  • Thanks dude! the song fits the vid perfectly haha!

  • My hubby used a conversion kit so the ar-15 will shoot .22 bullets.....i LOVE IT!!!

  • Nice farm.

  • Someone please tell me how much an AR platform is. i want the rifle it self not a conversion kit. in .22 . I wanna use one for coyote hunting.

  • @StrapAssassin1 Any mainline hunter will do well for you. I shoot a Remington R15 and it's sub MOA accuracy at 100 yards. The Rock River Coyote Carbine seems popular as does the new DPMS Prairie Panther. Then again you could always build one yourself :)

  • @StrapAssassin1 I just finished my ar build and I did a completly custom build with nice parts it has cost me around $1600 with scope and mags plus I still have to get a bipod and some rail gaurds so in all for a completly custom badass gun around $1700 if you buy bare bones stuff like my buddie did he got it for around $800

let me know if you got any more questions

  • I have that same eye dominance problem and it sucks when it comes to shooting handguns but for rifles has your wife considered just shooting left handed? I actually feel like I have more control shooting left handed when it comes to rifles anyhow. Not so easy when it comes to handguns though. Just a suggestion.

  • Very nice video... well done. Brandi is cute and Im looking forward to getting me an adapter! :-)

  • @DBSOC Thanks DBSOC, yes I think the wife is pretty hot stuff and super cool too. The little girl stays in the background safely out of the way when we bring out the big guns. She's plenty happy getting trigger time on her Crickett 22 long rifle though :)

  • This guy should be a salesman. Going to make me buy this conversion. I never thought they worked till I saw this video and headed over to the CMMG site which has another convicing video. Best price I find online is $149 by CDNN Sports Inc. (and that's the stainless with 1 x 25mag.)

Also anyone wondering the song is Alter Bridge - Come to Life

    Thanks to shazam

  • @joeddox Thanks for the compliment brother. Hope you have the same luck we've had with ours!

  • thats a gun my 12 yr old daughter would own

  • did u find a problem with barrel fowling and damage to the gas system? or does that conversion include a barrel?

    Cheers

  • @dragon7060 Sorry for the delay in reply. Somehow MY youtube account got linked to my wife's email address and we haven't been able to change it back yet so all my comments go to her. She's pretty good about forwarding them to me but I stink at remembering to jump on and reply.

YES, the barrel and gas tubing does foul. The tip is to put the 5.56 bolt back in then fire a few rounds to clear it out. The conversion itself does get pretty fouled up too.

  • did u find a problem with barrel fowling and damage to the gas system? or does that conversion include a barrel?

    Cheers

  • I am having nothing but ejector issues with my kit. :( Feeds fine, but won't eject.

  • Great video! Thanks for sharing. Not sure if others have mentioned this, but getting a holo or reflex sight will help your wife to shoot with both eyes open.

  • My GF has the same problem. I am teaching her to shoot with both eyes open. With a pistol thats easy or a rifle with iron sights. When it get hard is with a scope.

  • Botachtactical has it now for $100 or $175 stainless steel..no mag.

  • Very cool video guys....I am going to pick one of these up for my AR. Looks like a lot of fun!!

  • @treepog Happy shooting!

  • @pastorebbs thx for the vid! im curious on what you switch out in a conversion. just the bolt carrier? ide like to know before i buy one, cuz .5.56,.223 are 30 cents a bullet, 22's are like 6 cents. but man i love my ar15 with .223,5.56, its just so loud and nasty sounding, and powerful. and all that power with very low recoil. i highly recommend an ar15 over an ak-47

  • @treepog these conversion kits are kinda a waste of money. most cost around $500 so you'd be better off buying a knock off Colt or S&W .22 m4 and have two complete awesome looking rifles for the price of one $1100 AR15 with $500 conversion.

  • Cool video, I myself just bought the S&W M&P 15 22 for my wife to shoot( plus its CHEAP AMMO) As she dont like the crack of the .223 round. But you really need to have your wife wear some form of eye protection.Great video man.

  • @DownRangeUpwind Yep, X2 with you on the eye protection. No good excuse for not having it.

  • Cool video man. You don't think a dedicated upper is needed? Thanks

  • @vbp6us No dedicated upper IMHO. It's a super quick change and takes a LOT of shooting to foul up the gas system. Lots of carbon and junk in those 22 rounds, especially the cheap stuff.

  • Im glad you have taught your girl how to shoot. When society collapses and she comes across a group of black panthers she will deal out justice very accurately. Good work :-)

black panthers prefer raping unarmed women...

  • Thanks for posting. Did you have to do any modifications to get the kit to run. Looks like you do not have any problems. I can not shoot a full magazine without a malfunction. Usually the empty case gets jamed up under the charging handle or a failure to extract an empty case. Nice rifle.

  • The reason they say to use quality ammo is because that cheap walmart crap will tear your chrome lined barrel apart. You would be better off using a dedicated 22 upper.

  • @TTBlackOPS Don't spread FUD. Nothing at all wrong with using "cheap Walmart crap" in any gun. It's just not as accurate as the more expensive stuff. Lead cannot cause any damage to chrome lining. The reason the ammo is cheap is because the bullets are not all sized and weighted to within fine specs like match ammo, thinner copper cladding (if any), and the powder is cheaper and dirtier (more unburned powder residue).

  • @TTBlackOPS

    Myth

  • Does the bolt lock back?

  • imleft eye dominate right handed

  • I've got 475 rounds through my stainless steel CMMG .22LR conversion kit and have not had one failure yet, this kit is awesome and very fun to shoot. I use Federal 550 bulk ammo and Winchester 333 exclusively and have had amazing luck with them.

NOTE - DO NOT USE REMINGTON .22's, THEY ARE JUNK!!! My buddy bought the same kit and has nothing but problems with the Remingtons.

  • @silverbullet2005 I made the same mistake with my colt m4 .22lr rifle. I ended up giving my friend about a 1,000 rounds because my gun wouldnt even cycle them. But it will feed federal premiums all day long with no issues. My friend uses the smith & wesson m&p 15 22 and can shoot the remingtons all day. The federal also shoots alot cleaner.

  • @silverbullet2005

I do agree remmington golden are crap. They blow more extractors than any other I have tried. Federal bulk is the cleanest burning, cleanest brass I have ran across.

  • Cool video! I just got a CMMG kit and it rocks! Pastorbbs, I agree about the cheaper ammo, even if I could afford it, it's really hard to find even at Walmart so I've been just buying the Federal bricks.

  • Brandy needs to learn to shoot left handed with her rifle.

  • @jamesgang94591: Thanks for the input, but I can practically eyeball something and hit it. Its when I listen to other people tell me how to shoot that I always miss. I'm not typical at all...I've tried eyeing it on the right and I cant hit the broad side of a barn. I don't know why this works for me the way it does, but it does. ;) Thanks for checking out our video! -B

  • @pastorebbs

I was only speaking in a tactical situatioin. Laying her head down on the stock she's losing at least 50% of her sight.

  • ok i got an M&P 15-22 could there mags work? its pretty much the same layout ( 22 conversion kit) just doesnt have the 556 chamber if anybody knows that you could do that it would be great and easier to load

  • Comment removed

  • At short range (25yrds), did you have to adjust your sights compared to the 223?

  • Dman40475,

There is no eye relief on a RDS. There's no reason to mount it backwards on a cantilever mount. The reason why we mount it further forward is to get a better field of view around the RDS. Why would you cover your BUIS with an RDS? I understand if you're using a magnified optic for eye relief, but it's useless to do that with an RDS,

  • I also am right handed and left eye dominant and I shoot just like she does, even through the iron sights. The only time I run into trouble is when I shoot shot guns or anything with a lot of kick because my face is resting on the stock. I have found that if you close one eye it helps however, I don't like shooting with one eye closed because you lose your peripheral vision. With practice I have figured out how to focus my right eye.

  • I am right handed/left eye dominant and you should either hold it in your right hand and use your right eye, which is what I do with long guns, or use left hand/left eye. It is near impossible to do it the way she is successfully without a red dot sight, it just doesn't work and is extremely awkward. Also, your optic mount is backwards, it is supposed lean forward. I hate to criticize, but it is constructive criticism meant to help you, just as your vid helped me decide to purchase the cmmg kit

  • Thanks for the thoughts. My wife has mostly shot handguns exclusively, which has allowed her to shoot right handed easily even though she's left-eye dominant.

In reference to the optic mount, it's a cheapy Walther red dot I bought from a local shot and just put it on. I believe it's intended to be used with the p22 pistols so I just mounted it the way it was put together in the box. If I understand right, pistol optics are mounted learning to the rear. Hope that answers your question.

  • Actually, I will mount my RDS in its larue canted mount backwards on some of my rifles so it goes over my back ups and gives me the right eye relief. So some people might be mounting it a certain way for a certain reason. Keep that in mind

  • @NRAGOAL DO THEY MAKE ASSAULT RIFFLE'S THAT KICK THE SHELL'S OUT THE LEFT INSTEAD OF THE RIGHT.. IM ALSO RIGHT HANDED BUT MY RIGHT EYE IS BLIND MY LEFT IS 20/10 BETTER THAN NORMAL,WILL I HALF TO HAVE IT CUSTOM MADE..

  • @TheGMC1988 Stag arms makes left handed AR-15s that have the ejection ports on the left side, the MSAR AUG clones can be configured for either left or right hand ejection, and the FN FS2000 ejects shells from the front.

  • @SRXAltered cool.. the one i really have been lookin at is the sig 556 swat looks bad ass.. u know if they make those for left's..

  • @TheGMC1988 STAG ARMS makes left handed ar15s

  • @TheGMC1988 Yes Stag Arms makes both .223 and 6.8 mm full rifles and uppers only depending on model $900 -$1200 and $750 $845 upper only

  • excellent video.

  • Sounds so quiet. Can you get away without wearing ear protection? That would be sweet!!!

  • Do you have any shooting experiance? The conversion is so you can shoot .22lr which is not a loud round, reguardless you should always use hearing protection when shooting any round.

  • Im a lifelong shooter. The only .22 i currently shoot is my Ruger single-six, which I still wear ear protection for. Thinking of picking up the conversion for my Bushy AR. It probably sounds more quiet on video than it really is. Probably foam ear plugs are sufficient. I couldnt tell from your vid whether the shooters were wearing anythings. Cheers.

  • Guys, with the custom muzzle break on this particular AR the sound was pretty mild. We wore plugs but could have gotten away without. Guns like your single six are MUCH louder with even a small round like the .22lr compared to a long gun. BE AWARE: Gaboon1, I've heard difficulties of this particular conversion in Busy's Wranglerbarn before killing his channel made note of this. You might check around. Otherwise, happy shooting.

  • @pastorebbs

Dont worry, obama will mandate ear plugs for everyone soon.

  • Thanks for the review. I've been considering picking up one of these conversion kits and this review has helped me in my decision...

  • What about cleaning? Is your barrel getting all leaded up?

  • é bom que o calibre 22 é mais barato .

  • great review!

  • Very cool dude, nice video 5/5. I think most are very happy with their CMMGs and are's have been great. But some, like WranglerBarn have reported breakages of the chamber insert. These are all data points and I'll continue to update my review as necessary. Thanks!

  • Whats the cheapest 22lr you can find today? I heard the remington bulk packs are the cheapest, I always use augila 22lr SSS subsonics.

  • dude!!! alter bridge!!!! ur awesome!!

  • Hey Pastorebbs, after watching your vid and others, I decided to go with the CMMG with a dedicated upper. I picked it up brand new online for $400 bucks. My 223 upper is a Stag lefty, so the conversion kit alone wouldn't help. Anyhow, I just shot it at the range. I used CCI mini mag and got tones of misfires. The longest streak was 4 rounds, otherwise every other round misfired. Did you have these issues when you first fired yours? I only shot 75 rounds before I got frustrated.

  • Wow, that's really frustrating to hear. We ran those 350 rounds through and about 500 since with NO misfires, jams, stovepipes, etc. I'm phenomenally impressed with the stainless conversion we have. And just like I said in the video, all we've been using is cheap Remington range ammo. And here's the kicker. The second time through with 500 rounds we still hadn't cleaned since the first time!!!

The only thing I can think of is the left-handed setup. Is your receiver any different being lefty?

  • Um I cannot seem to find anymore of the stainless steal cmmg .22 conversion kits.

  • Well CCI mini mag is $8.99 and American eagle 5.56 is also 5$8.99 And I love the AE 5.56.

  • You're right. The AE 5.56 is one of my favorites too. The problem is that $8.99 for just 20 rounds is too much. The CCI mini mags are a good deal at $8.99 also, but still it's only for $50. My point wasn't to discredit the higher grade stuff, but I wanted to point out that the conversion functioned well even with the el cheapo ammo.

  • Did you have to modify the conversion kit when you got it new? I'm seeing that some people are having issues making the 22lr bolt fit properly in the rifle. Several have said they needed to use a dremel to shave down the sides of the conversion kit.

  • No modifications whatsoever. I removed the 5.56 BCG and replaced it with the CMMG conversion BCG. It slid right in without a hitch. Are you sure the ones needing the dremel are using the CMMG or are they maybe using the Spike's Tactical or Ciener kit?

Again, this was the stainless setup. I couldn't totally speak for the matte steel piece but CMMG is pretty tight with their tolerances. Hope this helps.

  • I'm not sure what make those other ones were. Incredible that you shot 350 rounds without issues.

  • Yes, it does. The problem with it is that when you remove the magazine to reload, it charges forward. So every time you put a new magazine in, you have to rack the charging handle again. That's the major difference between this an shooting standard 5.56 rounds. You can't use the bolt release button to chamber the 1st round after you've already been firing.

  • Does that conversion kit lock the bolt back after the last shot?
