  • lol I've got one just like him. Except, as soon as you take the focus off him, he screams my name until I come back over to him.

  • lol he looks like my cockatiel named Biscuit.

  • such a pretty bird ^-^ reminds me of my bird, Sarah, bless her heart that brave bird

  • Aww, Cheeky is so beautiful and adorable

  • WOW lol he seems to love making a mess. or maybe in the birds mind they think they are cleaning up.

    SO CUTE!

  • omg he is so curious!!!!!!

  • So cute!

    I love Birds!

  • holy crap its an albino dino cockateil run away!

  • my daughter is ten and has been researching about cockatiel's for a long time! do you recommend them?

    thanx!

  • I recommend them yes.

They make great pets and are the best animals to cheer someone up on a bad day =]

you have to spend around $80 to get everything to get your bird happy and clean from mites.

Believe me they make great pets and i recommend them to any child.

  • what he's saying? it so funny

  • haha the heck with cookies GIMME MY REFLECTION!!!! lol im going to get mine in December. ANY TIPS OR POINTERS? PLEASE? SHOULD I GET A MIRROR FOR MINE? IT WILL BE MALE.

  • Hi

They used to say that if you want your bird to talk you shouldn't put a mirror in in the cage.I suppose that this is still true. Cheeky has never had a mirror in his cage. Males are supposed to be the best talkers. Spend as much time with your bird as possible and you will be well rewarded.

  • @Algy10 My bird was called cheeky and looked exactly like this and did crazy stuff like this >_> I had to give him away .. tell me this isnt him? I had to give it away to someone in uddersfield and last I heard, they had to sell it too O_O is this my birdiiiii by any chance? :D I have his nephew at my house hehehe :D

  • Algy10 is right, you should definitely not add a mirror to their cage if you want them to talk. Mine would talk all day until I finally decided to purchase a mirror and he just got lazy and too involved with his mirror "friend" that he forgot to whistle most of the tunes and words he already knew. Even the neighbors thought he had died because he got so quiet.

  • i have a white female bird like that and it name is pooky :)

  • how old is he

  • My cockatiel also likes shiny things. When he sees his reflection ,he starts talking and tweeting.

  • AWW THAT IS ADOPRABLE!

  • does cheeky have a female friend?

  • Yes, the hen bird is called 'Puff' but unfortunately the are not on speaking terms with each other.

Therefore I still have to keep the in separate cages.

    Al

  • Yennun some birds would fly into windows. I lived with my guardians for awhile and they had a bird and it constantly flew into the sliding door. And some people have ceiling fans. What if someone diden't know the bird was out and able to fly and they put it on and it flew into that?

If a bird flew away they would not know how to survive and die pretty soon.

Clipping their wings is NOT cruel.

  • cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Sounds like a orchastra. How he goes to the tin can is liek he is going to the instrument then sings in it. Very cute

  • beautiful bird!!!

  • im laughing SO HARD at what he did at the beginning

  • why do my coco wolfswistle when he see me naked jealous?or maybe in the mood?

  • i can't get mine to talk! she doesn't seem to pay attention

  • the female cockatiel don't usually talk at all... i have 4 cockatiels and all boys but i work at a pet store and have been there for a while and we have never got any of the girl cockatiels to talk

  • hey! i really need some help. i Just got a new cockatiel and he seems to be scared of me. He always tries to bite me or get away. how do i tame my cockatiel? please reply thanks..

  • dont worry, we had the exact same problem. We would put our hand in the cage and he would hiss and try to bite. Dont worry about taming just be patient and he will fall in love with you. We had our cockatiel for a little over a month and he loves us and you'rs will too!!

    PATIENCE IS KEY

  • make sure his wings are clipped. a pet store can do it and it wont hurt them. take it out and when its with you give him something he likes so he accociates you with that thing. do not punish him because he will get devilish if you do!

  • the reason is that he doesn't fly into a window and smash his brains, or fly out the window either. is it so stupid now?

  • We had one for 16 years when I was a kid, he never had his wings clipped, and his cage was never closed. Never once did he fly into a window, and he had free run to fly anywhere in the house. Why would you ever take away a birds ability to fly? There were a couple of times when he managed to sneak out through a door to the outside, he'd go for a cruise round and come back when he was tired, usually 10-15mins.

  • im 12 i own a cockateil named sunny. i bought him with my money.... infact i have him out right now.....and i bought him hand fed he never dose anything bad...infact he wont poop any whewre but his cage. he can talk and sing. hes almost a year old and i got him wn he was about 8 weeks...... so i think u sahould get 1.....they are the best. my dog hates him tho...so if u have a dog keep the bird in a seperate room.

  • So funny! Your bird is SOOO cute!!!

  • i'm thinking about purchasing a cockatiel. what age do you think is a good age for purchase? and is it hard to tame these birds? i know that the birds at petsmart and petco are "hand-fed" but they seem a little jumpy when i tried to touch them.

  • Hi

I would say, as young as possible.

Taming the bird is not an 'instant thing'.

You have to gain the bird's confidence, and get used to each other.

Initially,Can take a bit of time, also, the bird has to adapt to it's new surroundings.

Cockatiels are very sociable birds, and like company.

They don't like being left on their own for too long!

Can be very rewarding, however, once you have obtained that 'bond'

  • yea, i got mine hand tame and it was perfectly tame the 1st day i got it, i must of just been lucky :)

  • After having both untamed birds and hand fed birds, I think that it is best to get a hand fed bird because they have no fear of the human hand. I have 4 cockatiels that have been hand fed and they are the sweetest, most outgoing, docile and gentle birds that I have ever had. Great with kids too if you have young kids as I do plus they become more attached to you quicker but it is totally your choice.

  • thanks for the reply, but what age is considered "young"?

also, if i had to gone on trips in which i cannot take the bird with me, what are my options?

  • when my family goes on vacation we go once a year for about 10 days and we have a friend come over and feed them and give them water while we are not home. We have the same person do it everytime because they get used to her.

  • Very adorable!! I love Cockatiels!! I happen to have 4 of them. It is really funny the last one that I got knows how to whistle and now all of a sudden they all know how to whistle. Pretty cute. Does your tiel have the freedom of venturing about the house?

  • Hi

Yes he is usually free to come and go, although he tends to keep to the room where his cage is.

  • AWW THAT IS ADOPRABLE! Its like hes playing the drums!! My bird is 3 years old. He loves it when i play the piano and whistle. The only thing he really knows, is to whisle like a chick. ;] WD!

  • for some reason my bird has stopped singing, but it's only 3 years old :(

  • "be a good boy, be a good boy"

  • my cockatiel does the same things with her mirrors, i lost count on how many mirrors we had to buy her cuz she kept breaking them

  • I got my bird from someone else and he hadnt been out of the cage that much, but he does sing, and talk, and starting to mimic things...like when I call the dog..lol just thought I'd share that......

  • OMG I HAD A COKATEIL CALLED CHEEKY :)

  • Wow! What a sweet birdie! You are so lucky and he is so-o-o entertaining!

  • I was just wondering im thinking off getting a household cocky and i have been reaserching ALOT!! but im getting mixed messages some people say males are better because they are easily trained and get taught quicker and speak and sing much more but some poeple say the opisite. can someone help!! Also how do u tell witch is a male or female i heard males have brighter cheeks but is there any other ways u can tell? HELP!! Oh and your birdie is so cute!!

  • In my (limited) opinion, males seem to be the best talkers.

Your best bet is to visit a reputable pet shop or breeder, and ask for advice.

Which ever way you go, make sure you get a young bird, make sure that you gain the bird's confidence, and be prepared to spend a LOT of time speaking to the bird, repeating the same phrases over and over. In due course it should happen, and can be very rewarding.

    Cheers

  • females are usually quiet, and males are usually loud and obnoxious! My female is so quiet you wouldn't even know she was a bird. She is very feisty at certain times though. Just depends on the time of day and her mood. Her cheek patches are very dull. She's a nice bird

  • ahhh!!! my cockatiel looks and acts just like yours! Dont you love it when they do their pacing around the area?! haha. and my bird loves to burrow in paper--or just paper in general. Chewing on it, going under it.. and mine is also in love with himself - he sings everytime he sees his reflecton! lol. i wanna take out my bird and start videotaping his every move now!!

  • i read somewhere that if the cockatiel has very bright orange cheekpatches, then it is a male. Usually the females have a duller color.

  • beutiful bird i have 2tiels and they will copy a whistle i do but how do u teach them to talk can some1 tell me

  • Hi

Re getting birds to talk, see my comments about 4 weeks ago.....bye

  • ok how do u no if they are a male or female

  • It's not easy!!!!

However, if you do a search on Google for "sexing cockatiels", you will get plenty of answers there.

I always had a feeling that "Cheeky" was a male, just by his general behaviour.

  • ok how do they behave if its a male

  • It's hard to put into words, but Cheeky always seemed to be more assertive and aggressive (on rare occasions), whereas the hen is quieter. A bit like humans, I suppose.

However, having said all that, I don't regard myself as an expert on these matters.

If you are not sure about your bird, perhaps a local pet shop, or local aviary club could help.

    Cheers

  • thank u

  • Bird's smart. x]

  • sounds like hes saying why dontcha punch urself ur such a little pretty birdy.

  • i have a pearl cockateil

  • I saw your bird and she is pretty! I have 12teils!Peace out!

  • This is very cute and he is doing his best to sound beautiful. I had a cockatiel that would push anything off the counter he could including an empty cereal box and watch it fall and make a sound and chirp in delight. He was Carmen and now the greeting cockatiel in heaven.

  • My Tiel loves his biscuit tin! It's his favourite toy! Just started up a blog for bird owners birdowner.blogspot. com. For bird owners to share their opinions/ideas! It'd be nice to hear some comments!

  • cool bird and very smart i have one named lucky .

i want to teach him how to talk but hes big now but....he has a wife named sunny and they have 2 eggs should i teach those babies when they hatch? probally yes i love to tame animals!!!!!!

  • looks just like mine, only mines named "cookie"

  • Wow!!

My bird looks the same and acts the same! Except sometimes he talks to the toaster instead...

And he talks like that, but replace where you hear "Cheeky" with "Jack" :]

  • Busy baby dumpiing! Can I have her please! Peace and love out!

  • very cute,,howd u made her to talk???

  • Cheeky was hand reared, so was very tame to start with.

Basically it means the bird has confidence in you. Keep repeating the same phrase over and over again to the bird, eventually it should pick it up. It takes a lot of patience. They say that male birds are the best talkers. It is always best to start teaching the birds at an early age. (just like humans).

  • this one is to fat. you can see it on the stomach. Try harrison bird foods. its a diet to your bird and it have all the bird vitamine supplements it can get in a natural way.

  • Wow.. he can talk... it's good!

  • so um.. howd u made it talk

  • cockatiel is cute and anoyin at your home i guess

  • YOU WROTE THAT THE LAST TIME.

  • he is cheeky!! and so cute!

i thought he said cheeky monkey at one point =D

  • i have a cockatiel but it cant behave as good as yours

  • LOL

  • I watch this video every day! The way he chirps while lifting the tin lid is the cutest thing ever!

Zaynah, although clipping a birds wings is cruel in some way, it is in their best interest if they are going to be inside. Wouldn't want them flying into a pane glass window now would we?

  • YOU DONT WATCH THIS VIDEO EVERY DAY.

  • It may be fun for you, but it's not fun for the bird. By clipping wings you're taking away a bird's primary defense against danger; flight. It can be very traumatizing and usually degrades the trust which is essential for interaction with birds.

  • its better than letting them fly into a window or fly away outside which happened to my bird. now hes probably dead. is that less cruel?

  • IAM SORRY THAT HAPPENED.

  • very cute!

    Beautiful color!

  • how beautiful Cheeky is :)

i have a cockatiel to, called Elviz. He only screams like Cheeky do in the beginnng of this clip though :S

  • lmfao metal head for sure this one is. I love this bird

  • My bird Cheeky loves listening to your Cheeky video! What a talented cutie he is !!!

  • Oh, Cheeky looks exactly like my Kitty, though Kitty is less talkative, she is more of a screamer, lol.

  • thats so cute but i dont think hes talking i think he might be trying to talk but i just think hes nattering just for fun :)

  • i love cheeky!

  • Your video clip is great and I've rated it as awesome. Please see my video clip on a parrot animation and some Victorian trading cards of exotic birds such as parrots, paradise bird, toucan, humming bird etc.

  • haha cute bird i have baby called O'Mally all she does is wolf whistle when you walk by or at her lol.

  • is that a rooster hes trying to copy? lol thats awsome, my cockatiel is still young.. still waiting on him to talk my bird went nuts and starting chirping when it was chirping like a rooster

  • Hi

I doubt it, I don't think that he has heard a rooster in his life!!!

Since I got the hen bird to keep him company, he seems to have lost some of his vocabulary, and he is still not on speaking terms with the hen 'Puff'.

Still have to keep them in separate cages.

  • wow - this bird acts and sounds a lot like mine! My birdie kept hoping on the keyboard to check out who was making the noise? Your bird talks well for a Cockatiel.

  • looks just like mine, except mine cant do tricks or speak but does whistle at you if you whistle at it but i think thats normal

  • soooooooo cute

  • careful with the metals...they can be toxic :)..beautiful bird though!

  • what a pretty cockatiel! soooo cute

  • oh! It makes me miss my Cockatiel!!! He's really active! That's so cute!!

  • That's so cool, my bird will say "pretty birdie" every once in a while.

  • I wish my cockatiel could speak. How old was cheeky when he started to talk?

  • Hi

He was about 5-6 months old when he started to talk.

Cheeky was 'hand reared' and is very tame, so much so that he thinks that he is a 'human'

Got a companion for him (a hen), but so far he doesn't want to know.

  • I think hes trying to say " I'm a pretty bird" I think i heard him say " Whatcha doing"

  • i have a cockatiel named "Chippy" he can speak these words:

    good morning!

    ny-night

    (my moms laugh)

and the other stuff isnt that clear but your cockatiel is cute!

  • Aww my Cockatiel's name is Cheeky too!

  • Wow, I've never heard a cockatiel speak so clearly =)

  • That's friggin' awesome! What a smart bird!

  • Hey, I have a video up of my sister's bird Cheeky! And boy, is he! Your bird is beautiful! What's he saying?

  • Hi Some of the thinks he is saying:- "What you doing, son?" "What's the matter, son?" "Where's my bonnie wee boy?" "You good boy, son" "What you doing, son?" "Cheeky McIntyre is a nice wee boy" "Cheeky McIntyre is a bonnie wee boy" "Come on, come on, come on" "Georgy Porgy is a good boy" etc. etc. And various combinations of the above.!! Thanks for the comments
