I need a gimp tutorial on how to make custom "cookie cutters". I mean making a custom selection and copying the selection 's shape (NOT the selection, but THE SELECTION'S SHAPE), and then pasting and moving that Selection's shape somewhere else to make a new selection the same shape and dimensions of the old selection.
great lesson--I have a newer ed of gimp--it doesn't have a scaler slide that can change brush sizes (for all brushes) like the gimp 2.4 has. any way to get that scaler slider into the newer version? thanks
Before, I didn't have much faith in Gimp, because it seemed so difficult to use. After watching and reading several tutorials, such as yours, I'm convinced that Gimp is wonderful.
Thank you very very much for your tutorials. Before them I could do as much with Gimp as I did with Paint !!!!!. I was very interested in this thing: the selections. Now I have a pic from my eye and I could change the color of my iris, from dark to green.
[77satellites] LOL! Aahhhh... Can't imagine how that was a freakishly sick homo-erotic comment. But if you felt homo-eroused...more power to you. Have a nice day; it's hot in California so I'm staying inside.
[Enselic] GIMP was always complicated to me, as compared to Photoshop Elements and PhotoImpact XL, so I'm glad that someone is doing tutorials on GIMP. Layers & Selections were ALWAYS a pain for me to get down! xP
After watching many gimp tutorials from many members, I elect you as the winner for the best gimp tutorials. I am gratefull for everones contributions though. Please do more as yours are very professional.
Probably the user has had experience with other image software and many do slow computers down, especially when using hi-res images. I suspect that was probably the intended question.
You're probably right. The answer to the question:
You can set the tile cache of GIMP to a value less than RAM so that GIMP does not eat up all your RAM, that way your system will be responsive even when editing high-res images (only GIMP will be slow since it has to swap data in and out from the disk)
wow....very informative thanks a lot... my favorite apart about the gimp is thats it free!!!...but also a very powerful program..thanks again for the videos... ^_^
GIMPshop is based on GIMP 2.2 which is 3 years older than GIMP 2.4 and so it misses a lot of new functionality that was added in GIMP 2.4. I strongly recommend against use of GIMPshop since it is IMO a pointless port, it's better to learn to use the original tool.
i dont suppose you plan on doing a tutorial on skin tones with regards to face layering.
ive got a picture of my friend that i wanna put on his favourite tv character and ive got two great pics to put together but am having huge troubles with the contrasting sking tones (his pic being fery light and the character being quite dark.
im gonna subscribe in the hopes that you do somthing like this :)
First of all make sure that shadowing and highlights match, then it will be much easier to face-replace. Then use the different things under the Colours menu, in particular Colours -> Levels... is very powerful. It's still pretty hard to get right though.
Oops, accidently hit "post comment"button before I'd finished typing!!Anyway thanks to your excellant tutorials I now understand how to render from one picture to another.I also now get the selection tools as well. Please keep the tutorials up so we can get the most from this most excellant piece of software.Thankyou.
Thanks for this very clear tutorial. I was unaware of the quick mask capabilities - I might stop clumsily erasing layers now.
I'm glad to see you posting again. Your tutorials are by far the most clear and useful...keep up the good work in demystifying the gimp so everyone can see how great it is!
