  • This is the model with the wharfedale speakers, right?

  • I wish I had a Vox AC30. Saw one in a music shop a few months back, very very old and warn. It was going £600. I think my English Muff'n would sound great with this.

  • WOw that ska rhythm is fucking amazing!!!!

  • this Amp. can do a concert withouth a mic on the P.A?

  • Comment removed

  • Depends how you define well... if your looking for some ballsy full on overdriven sound then no... but they do break up really nicely, I reckon it would be fine for ska/punk. I need to upload a new video as this is old now, but I put a T-rex mudhoney through it which suits the amp perfectly. really pushes it til it screams at you. So... get the amp! Then get a nice pedal to accompany it

  • good for heavy distortion?

  • The t-rex is more an overdrive/fuzz, so if your looking for a tight high gain sound id look elsewhere, a different amp perhaps. :\ depends what style of heavy distortion your after!

  • i dont know i play stuff like blessthefall i dont know if your familiar with that stuff but anyways i borrowed this amp for a recording and it just sounded so good. it made my effect on my effect pedal sound way better than i thought it was. i also like how if i wanted to i could get a add-on like the 60 watt or the 120 watt speaker for this and the amp alone would be a great starting point for my progression into quality amps

  • I think you may be misunderstanding the wattage. The amp is 30 watts.. adding more speakers does not change the power of the amp, so adding a 120 watt speaker just means that you could drive 120 watts into it, say for example a 100w Hiwatt or Marshall Head. This amp is LOUD though. For the stuff you are playing I really don't think this amp would suit you. Its not designed for those scooped mids tight gain sounds. Try looking at bogner, engl, mesa express etc

  • Do these amps overdrive well? Would they be useful for ska/punk rock?

  • just fine, especially with a decent overdrive or treble booster in front

  • how do you play that rythm? it sounds awesome!

  • well not only the amp that sounds good.. the guitar player does too :D

  • Nice sound. I have a 1963 AC 30 and it sounds great wound up past halfway on normal channel with a treble or power booster.

  • Fantastic amps, had my AC30 for about 15 years now..love it, have not a clue about any other amps!

  • gotta love that tone!

  • Now THATS !!! what an ac30 sounds like .

  • I dig the rhythm playing style very nice!

  • I've had mine a year now.. And its lovely.. <3

  • God i wish i had one of these. My teacher got one a few days ago.

  • great video

does yours have the alnico blue's?

  • not yet nah.. didnt justify the extra money when i got the amp. will upgrade at some point but im pretty happy with it. Im hoping to do a better quality video this weekend, showing both clean and overdriven, there doesnt seem to be any on youtube... nobody has actually shown what the amp can do yet!! so check back next week and i should have a new vid. this ones quite old now! iv improved my playing since :)

  • i have a question to clear up my own confusion.

is this a custom classic? or is it the real deal?

  • this is a custom classic. Dont be fooled into thinking that these are inferior amps though. The custom classic range are fantastic, very good sound, very versatile sound, good build quality and they still make people drool when you play one! i wouldnt say tht these are not still "the real deal"... they are a lot more reliable than some of the older AC30s, and obviously they wont sound quite as good, but even the custom classics have one of the best tones out there today. help with your question?

  • perfect tone

  • i dig the tone

  • A lot of people are strong proponents of Vox not being able to handle "heavy" stuff. You'd be quite surprised if you crank it. I own an AC30 with the alnico blues, and if you set it right, you can get the clearest, most killer rock distortion tone... ever.

  • i couldn't agree more :P i also own an ac30 and i managed to get a killer distortion tone out of it.

  • dido with no overdrive/distortion pedal I got a great overdrivin rock tone that cleans up with the roll of my guitars volume knob

  • good sound! are you playing a strat here?

  • Hi man, how many channels has this amp got?

Can it get quite heavy too?

  • the amp has 2 channels, but only one at each time. theres normal channel, then the top boost channel. If you get an AB switch u could potentially have channel switching in there as well. It does good classic rock sound but if ur after a metal sound then go somewhere else lol. this is not what the amp was designed to do!

  • this isnt for you if you want a lot more gain or overdrive, then you should try the VOX AC50CP2. it uses el34 valves rather than el84. you get a gorgeous sound deffinatly worth a look.

  • Do you reckon this is capable of getting as heavy as bands like paramore, jimmy eat world, brand new, biffy clyro etc?

  • depends really... its definately a looser overdrive than something with el34s so for ur tight overdriven sound u might wanna look at something else... if u listen to a lot of biffy stuff though, its not actually heavily distorted. He just really hammers down the chords, and they sound crisp cos of the clean tone. If u really need a heavy sound, can use a pedal to push it a bit more. AC30 just has the best clean tone, and push it a little bit til it breaks upwill make u forget bout ur heavy bands

  • Just listgen to Queen music! Your answer lies there

  • Killer tone! Sounds amazing!

  • Yeah! It´s soooooooooooo cool!

  • i wanna marry your amp ..... seriously :)

  • too late shes taken :P

  • The amp is a DSL 50 and the cab is a 4x12 (4 x25 watt), yes Greenbacks. I don't add wattage of cab and amp and I've not heard of this before. Sorry might look like a repeat post, couldn't get it to post. Really good rig with a capital F.

  • yeah yeah yeah !!!!!! very cool 5 stras !

  • its a nice way in the utilization of this amp..relly nice

  • how much does ne of these cost in euros???

  • a lot :(((((((

  • 975Euro. so 700 pounds.that is a bloody good price for such an amazng amp. to get a pretty good marshall you going to being looking at least in th £1000 region. so not a lot really.

  • do you felt like you should have bought another amp when you bought that one? i mean if you discovered anothar amp later with the same or lower price and a better sound or something better than that one.

i'm asking you this bk i'm thinking of buying one like this, but i don't want to discover later that i should have bought another one...

    see ya

  • I bought one about 5 years ago and then about 3 years ago I bought a Marshall DSL 50 with a 4x12(100w between the 4). I prefer the Marshall and now I'm looking to sell the AC30 but they are totally different amps. It's whatever sound you want. Any decent amp shop should let you try loads and go away to think.

If you like AC30s I reckon you'll prefer the Custom Cassic range.

    Hope this helps.

  • Your saying that ur amp is 100 watts? because of the 4x12 cab?

  • No, the amp is 50 watts; the 4x12 cab is 100 watts, (4 speakers each 25 watt).

  • ok gdgd, that doesnt mean ur amp is 150 watts though... loadsa people combine the wattage of their head with the amount the cab can handle and assume they have like 400 watt all valve guitar amps haha. u got the greenback speakers?

  • the amp is a DSL 50; that means it's a 50 watt amp. The speakers are 25watts a piece making 100watts of cab. So it's a 100w cab powered by 50watt amp and no I ain't adding amp watts to cab watts here, never heard of that. Tell you what, it's really loud and it's the best amp I've heard really valvey crunch. Yes Greenbacks.

  • i work at a music shop so iv heard a fair few people say it. its so funny! ignorant people. I have to say im not a fan of the modern marshalls, reali like the old ones though!

cant beat the creamyness of the vox though

  • how does that work? :S

  • very good - but what guitars and what amps? Share! I do!

  • Wich guitar is used in this video? Great warm and dynamic clean sound...

  • its an epiphone les paul joe perry signature, with gibson burstbuckers. i love this guitars sound, its has such a nice clean sound, and reali drives this amp well when u turn it up

  • jesus, it sounds so much like a strat

  • This sounds nothing like a strat. Sounds like humbuckers with a slight chorus.

  • no chorus. straight into the amp

  • could be the manipulation from when you uploaded it. hmm. well, anyway, it sunds like humbuckers. none of the punchiness of a strat, but twice the output.

  • yer probs right. it was my phone camera so not the best. iv got a new video with my proper camera so il upload tht soon.

  • yep he had a treble booster pedal into a standard ac30, but the brian may limited edition vox amps have this booster built into the circuit

  • brian may has a cool high gain sound with a vox AC30, that's probably the type of sound people would expect to hear from a vox, but may had it modified for that sound

  • no he just used a boost infront of the amp.

  • nope, thts a les paul plugged straight into the amp. no effects. u just get so much dynamic response from this amp it sorta makes it sound strat like, u can hear all the picking dynamics.

  • its the custom classic one, made in china, since Korg took ova vox. and its the vox speakers, not the celestion blues. I couldnt afford them at the time, and these sound fine anyway. im gonna buy the celestion blue to replace one of my speakers so when i play live i can just mike tht one up.

  • u did it the right way, its cheaper to buy the cheaper one then just buy the alnicos. its cheaper and plus u get another set of speakers!

  • HI, which model of AC30 is this and which speakers do you have in it? By the way, you sound great!

  • Is that the old british made make...I played through the same exact amp at a guitar shop and it sounded purty nice!! Sounds really good,i kinda prefer those over fender tube amps.

  • Oh okay. YOu play awesomely BTW.

  • lol cheers man. i reali liked ur video, sounded pretty gd. so wot stuff u into? x

  • I really love clasical music, SOME metal, rock, prog rock... A lot of Coheed and Cambria.

I like guitar solos, so thats what I spend my time learning.

  • Why would they bother having put UK modern (soemthing that is distorted) and US HI-GAIN if they didn't want you to play it like that? :-D

I'm just say I wanna hear what other genres sound like, but other plays than myself.

  • mine hasnt got us high gain, thts on the amp modelling valvetronix series, this one has no channel switching, pure class a valve amp, designed to play this sort of stuff lol x

  • How come everyone demoing the VOX's is playing this style of music?

If anyone would like to hear it on something slightly more hard, go to my profile and view my cover of In Keeping Secrets of Earth 3.

  • the reason why people are playing this style of music is because that is what the vox is best at! El84 valves are not designed to distort like 6V6s or El34 valves so its not going to have the characteristics of a mesa boogie is it! you could put a pedal through it to make a metal sound, but then u lose the original tone cos the signal gets too saturated. Now stop complaning tht people rnt playin heavy stuff until u know more about valve amps!!! touche...

  • hey ther, its a les paul, rythem pick up, top boost channel so fair bit of treble. its such a nice amp, sounds amazing. a strat sounds so beefy through it! reali brings out the tone in any guitar! if ya get the cash together, get one of these amps!!!

  • yeah. Les paul is so much better right. hohoho

  • Its not:)

  • Lovely Sound. My dream Amp.

  • What guitar you used? Strato?
