So nah, he's not really a gospel chopper. He HAS chops, but he does some really cool and unique stuff. He's been to Berklee and stuff too, so he's a different class from the other dudes like Royster and Spears. But Royster and Pridgen are like best friends anyways.

Without hesitation, and that passes through improvisation, it is clear the technical and physical strength of Thomas and polyrhythms, paradidles, rebounds, but especially his handling Bassdrum freedom, feeling, power and is more effective with the cymbals. Tony has a little more cleaning but that is not enough ... Thomas is much more than that and we know, Tony is more conditioned, Thomas is much more free. It is my opinion.

Both of them are prodigies and excel in every genre they play. While I think Tony is more versatile, I find Thomas very fun to watch because you can feel the vibe of the song when you watch him. Both are legends and acknowledge each other.

This alone has me simply blown away. it's amazing what people can do with enough work. I, personally, have no skill at all, but I think I'm a fair judge to this cause. Tony and Thomas are both superior players, but I prefer Tony's playing. I'd rather have more fluidity to it though.

I think they told Tony not to break cymbals and drum heads before this shed because he isn't really playing his fastest in this video. If you watch the video "behind the scenes Gospel Chops" and throw in tony royster you will see a video of all of them jumping on one set in turns and its a TOTALLY DIFFERENT CHOP STORY THERE. But this SHED is HOT!

I respect everyones opinion on this.I personally after watching this whole thing really think T Royster has this shed session in the bag.He is just doing some killer stuff.Whether he's pulling it out of the air or it's in his bag of tricks.Pridgen seems to do some of the same stuff quite a few times.But even that being said Pridgen is still a monster.I just think Tony nails this hands down.

They need to get Chris Coleman and Aaron Spears together in a chop Throw-down...I dig Tony and Thomas and have met Tony and had him judge me in a GC drum-off, but I miss the days of "chops" having finesse and fluidity and smoothness and above all, taste...This stuff kind of misses the point of having "chops" to the point of being a physical exercise and less of a sensitiveness to the arena of music.
