I think the reason that people say BoA's cold nowadays is because Fly to the Sky and Shinhwa (Minwoo) aren't there to joke around with. Minwo and BoA were really close, considering Minwoo's stated that BoA's his "daughter" and Brian and Hwanhee thinks of BoA as a friend/inspiration/sister. There's DBSK and Suju now, but they're not as close and BoA's always alone in Japan nowadays too. (How long has it been since she's seen her family?).
