Amazing man. With identical twin second cousins with this disease, I know exactly what a Godsend Jerry Lewis and MDA was to them. He's about 65 here. He looked amazing. I never saw a man get more and more handsome as he got older. Love you, Jerry....for your huge heart for all you gave to your "kids" and for the laughter you brought to the world. You are one of my idols!
One of many fine renditions of "You'll Never Walk Alone" from Mr. Jerry Lewis! Now that Jerry is no longer host of the MDA Telethon (or the national chairman of the organization), who will walk with us each & every Labor Day? By "us", I not only mean those afflicted with MD & other neuromuscular conditions, but also the loyal telethon watchers who have supported Jerry & MDA over these many years. Forty-five telethons of "You'll Never Walk Alone" (from 1966 through 2010). Wow, that's a record!
Jerry Lewis 1991 MDA Labor Day Telethon. Traditional closing number I taped live on a base vcr at the then Pease Air Force Base while stationed there awaiting transfer to The Gulf.
His tears are very real. I remember him barely getting through with his tribute to Frank. You can't fake true emotion. Jerry is pure emotion when it comes to the people that he loves. I never questioned his motives because they always seemed genuine.
Nice video. Jerry still looked young here. I remember watching them every Labor Day and it was so cool, a 36 hour TV show! I used to record them on my old reel to reel.
@ConservativeStudios Frank I agree with on wholeheartedly about Robert F. Kennedy he was one of the last great Americans who should have been elected President but was murdered by an Arab, not a "palastinian" as there is no such thing! The reason I put up that long lost tape of Jerry singing his Hallmark song from 1991 was because it meant something special to me as a solider, ...
@ColonelPhillipGreen "you'll never walk alone" just before leaving Pease Air Force Base for the Gulf and all that entailed for the next four years in my life and the buddy's I knew, loved as brothers and sometimes lost in a preamble to today's Combat and what we are still fighting for to this day, The freedom of all mankind.
@PandorasSpocks i can remember shows from the later 70's, maybe early 80's when between the exhaustion of the prep for the show and the show itself, combined with the immensity of the figure on the tote board... Jerry couldn't finish the song and had to leave the stage very near the end. just soooooo emotional. and the story always was that they'd leave the live broadcast and go right into another marathon session of planning the next year's show. Just amazing what he's done for the MDA...
