Ah, the conflation of "hypothesis" and "theory". That's up there with spelling "Einstein" "Einstien".
What a magnificent universe we inhabit. How can anyone look upon it and not understand that the way out of our current state of imperfection is to go forwards and not backwards?
I am not interested in a God debate, that is not the purpose of these videos. If a Christian wan'ts to express his opinion here and say "Wow, what a world God has made!" there is no need for you skeptics to all attack him.
Its especially annoying because most of the Skeptics AND Christians here are terrible at arguing rationally, so all we get fallacious soup of conflicting ideas. Learn logic, learn some decent arguments, then go to a video that actually is on this topic.
Please don't have a religious debate, - there're other places more relevant for that, - and it draws attention away from the stunning peice of work done here!
Honor your parents *Commandment* found in Exodus 20:12 and Deuteronomy 5:16.
Now hear this, your BeJebusses said:
If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters - yes, even his own life - he cannot be my disciple." Luke 14:26, for one source of the direct contradiction.
Would YOU like to take back your arm waveing statement "it's total lack of contradictions" in your bible? I just proved one hell of a huge one there.
@ISamuelII Ah, I see. But doesn't that seem to be in absolute conflict with the whole of Jesus' life and teaching which was based on outright love? We have to search for the true meaning. Do we not say even today that "I hate salami" but not really. The word hate here needs keeping in context. Jacob ‘hated Leah,’ but he actually loved her less than he did Rachel.
@ISamuelII The account tells us that Leah was “hated.” (Ge 29:31, 33) But it also recounts that, after he had finally got Rachel, Jacob “expressed more love for Rachel than for Leah.” (Ge 29:30) Undoubtedly Jacob did not hold malicious hatred for Leah but viewed Rachel more lovingly, as his favorite wife. He continued to care for Leah and to have relations with her. Leah’s being “hated,” therefore, would merely mean that Jacob loved her less than Rachel
Lol... the only thing the God Delusion is useful for is the placebo effect. Too bad it can inspire people to do bad things just as easily as good things.
@Haliotro After having gained insight into what the Bible is all about, we know very well what causes bad things to happen. I obviously disagree on the 'placebo effect' and like to relish the 'hope effect' that especially the God of the Bible gives us. An atheists future is rather grim, do you not think?
@tahitiwibble The reason you feel that you need the "hope effect" is that you are disturbed by the temporary nature of your life and the things you care about. Because you are disturbed, you feel it necessitates that everyone is disturbed if they don't have hope in some immortal life or divine, eternal fulfillment. I accept reality and it doesn't bother me. It was only when I was constantly longing for some INFINITE satisfaction that I was once unhappy (17 year old). Now I am extremely happy.
@Haliotro No, not at all. I was speaking of the "hope effect" as a fact, not a need. One comes to realize that we have a hope of something better only after diligent study and meditation. It's a process not unlike a scientist uses where we look back at how ancient prophesy has come true to the letter in the past, and we start to have a solid faith, "the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld", in what is prophesied for the future.
@tahitiwibble "how ancient prophesy has come true to the letter in the past"
Extraordinary claims demands extraordinary proof. You imagined something came true because others told you they have come true. Comsider the source, is it someone that depends on your faith to put meat on his potatos?
@ISamuelII LOL "meat & potatoes" Oh nooo! I would never have anything to do with pan handlers like those that are so rampant in the USA. The televangelisers will get what's coming to them in due time, they are an absolute disgrace to true Christianity. As for the historical evidence of prophesies fulfilled, I would welcome the chance to lay things out for you, unfortunately the space allowed in the comments box doesn't give me much space.
whats with the debate in here. just watch the video, But I do admit evolution theory and atheism is losing trust from majority of the public. every scientific discovey they found and pointed out to be a missing link of humans or other species is hotly disputed and controversial.
The collapse of the soviet union brought about the golden age of christianity Athiesm declined fast. Every test done on laboratories by famous scientists have failed to prove life being produced by inorganic matter.
@JuneauGold Look, your most probably religious, in which case let's not bother getting into a debate about it, because you have faith. I only wish to discuss things with people who are willing to look at things objectivly, and think critically.
@Indie9999 You are referring to people who believed stalagmites took centuries to form and now we know they form faster but you used it to establish the long time line. Or that ice layers took so many years to form but the lost squadron was found under about 140 feet of ice which would have placed it's age at before Christ. I keep forgetting they made WWII airplanes before Jesus walked the earth.
"people who are willing to look at things objectivly, and think critically."
@rlwieneke Hey now come on, shhhhhhh, I see where your going with this but your just going to make yourself look silly and you may not even realise it.
You have faith in your beliefs and that's fine, it's a power state of mind that causes all sorts of mental gymnastics. But you know, you don't need to concern yourself with evidence and science! You already know that! So don't waste your time looking, and certainly don't waste your time trying to "convince" me about your theories.
@Indie9999 All your science on the age of the earth and the science of studying the universe is all theories, none of it can be proved. It is all theories.
@rlwieneke I'm already lost to atheism, I assure you, there's no saving me now. As sure as you are about your religion, i'm as sure about my atheism and the scientific method as you are sure about your religion, there is no changing either of us (unless of course evidence is found for god and jesus then i'll accept it right away!).
@JuneauGold I will accept Christianity if the stories are taken symbolically, this is fine. But when it's said that Jesus was the son of the creator of the unniverse, and who's mother was a virgin, and who died and came back to life, and fed 5000 people till they were full with a few fish, and who walked on water, and who healed the sick with just his touch, well that has a bit more explaining to do if it's to fit comfortably along side science. But, yeah metaphors and symbols, sure!!
@JuneauGold I will accept Christianity if the stories are taken symbolically, this is fine. @JuneauGold Surely existence of a supreme being is not a scientific question anyway. A supreme being stands outside of nature. Science is a naturalistic process and can only answer questions about what is inside nature. Beyond that it’s a matter of personal belief. In any case, how the heck can science answer the "why" question. It can't and doesn't, if it does it isn't science. Science can only answer the "how". I'm bored....the atheists here are just no challenge with their silly comments
@HEbelievesinatheists Hey! You sound quite interesting, i'm an atheist and I hope I can be of some challenge to you, just as long as you don't think what I say is silly. What are the silly things you think atheists say? I'm intrigued.
@citadelma LOL with you ....... I have had my own personal theory on this one for a long time! "Martin's Theory" - If we have a clear understanding of what infinity and eternity mean, then it is an inevitable fact that somewhere in infinity/eternity everything is repeated at least once; but because of the nature of infinity and eternity, in fact, everything has to be repeated and infinite number of times!
@citadelma So, me sitting in front of my computer screen doing what I'm doing, with the same particles of dust, in the exact same positions between my head and the window, is/has/will take/n place an infinite number of times for an eternity. Simple!
The flaw in any discussion of time is the notion that it might be finite (having a beginning and an end). In direct relationship to all things, time by it's very nature cannot be finite. If time was finite, then what came before or will come after? ;) This suggests an infinite number of singularities (Big Bangs) and we are on the journey of but one (assuming our time is relative!). With no end in sight, by means of some inter-dimensional portal, the universe must expand and contract forever.
Purr-leeease - can we stop with the God Vs physics bullshit? Why do so many idiots thick that God cannot exist if the Universe was created by physics? The very definition of God is something that is greater and more complex than the universe itself - infinitely so. Why do people think they can squeeze this into a form that a human mind can understand? I have no problem with the big bang - I don't see why God could not be watching over the big bang just as he watches over those who pray to him.
@sdensley please give evidence that he "watches over" a person who prays to him... If prayer worked we would have no need for medical knowledge, work, or anything. We could just all ask and recieve. Pathetic delusion
@Haliotro Thanks, I was hoping someone would ask. I have had prayers answered many times. Hopeless situations that have turned themselves around after prayer, happy coincidences and once a message written in chalk on the pavement outside my house that answered a very specific question that I had just privately prayed about (not out loud, and not anything anyone else could know or predict, etc.). This is part of my own personal store of evidence. Pathetic is the arrogance that denies such things.
@sdensley How arrogant to claim that your prayers have been answered. What about someone like Elisabeth Fritzl who was imprisoned and raped by her own father for years - giving birth to 7 of his children. A Catholic, she undoubtedly prayed for deliverance, which only came when one of the children became severely ill. The fact is, there is nobody listening. Your personal store of evidence is all part of the fabric of your own personal delusion. If it makes you happy, great. Otherwise, stow it!
@Tapiola2007 did anyone ever say that if you pray all your dreams will come true and nobody will ever suffer? Try reading the Bible (it's difficult in places but clearly someone with your knowledge of the doctrine of prayer and suffering will have no problem) and you will see how people and communities had to deal with suffering throughout their whole lives. Must go, I just spilt my coffee but if I wait a few million years it will somehow make its way back into the coffee cup by itself!
@HEbelievesinatheists Utter BS! The classic religious cop out: "Nobody ever said it was going to be easy". Which really translates into: prayer is a complete waste of time but when we can point to something and say "we prayed for that" we claim it as a success, and when we pray for something but don't get it we say "it's god's will". You're such f*****g infants!
@Tapiola2007 dude you sound damaged, I'd offer to pray if it wasn't such a touchy subject for ya! If ya looking for a genie to suddenly help you sort out a few life problems like money or relationships then, you're right, God probably ain't for you. But if you need help with your temper, he can sort that providing you............yep............pray (sorry to mention the "p" word, don't freak out). BTW, I'm only one person so don't really get the "infants" bit.
@HEbelievesinatheists At least you can distinguish the grammatical 1st and 3rd person: although I was taking all religious people as my example, not just you. "Damaged"? Hardly. Frustrated? Very likely. How tiresome it is to read/hear people like you ramble on about the power of prayer. You've never had a prayer answered - you just convince yourself that no matter how you pray and whatever the results might be, god is working his plan for you. Dawkins is spot on when he calls it delusional.
@rlwieneke You mean it's too challenging for you when you know that science shoots holes in your untenable world view so you try to convince yourself that scientists are bad people. How foolish. Let's see, what good does science do for you? Got a TV, cell phone, car? Do you live in a house or a cave? How's your health, been to a doctor lately? Do you enjoy fresh or rotten food? When you use the WC, do you flush in the comfort of your home or take a crap in the corner of your yard? Get real!
@Tapiola2007 Everything you mentioned was "Provable" scientific principals. That doesn't support your scientific "Theories". And they are theories because they can't be proven.
@Tapiola2007 Rather facile-minded is it not to imply that TV, cell phones and cars are inherently 'good'. These are amongst the worst 'best inventions' ever conceived. Now, had you said penicillin, the wind-up radio, or the hearing aid...
@weemikey70 "Facile-minded"? My comment was a list that also included inventions in the fields of medicine, food and domestic comfort. Couldn't you make it to the end before sending me your frivolous reply?
@Tapiola2007 Exactly. And people think universe was made only for us...a tiny planet...amongst thousands and billions of others...and millions of them maybe with life...
@tahitiwibble The Bible may well talk about why people do bad things but what has that got to do with the truth value of the claims made in the book? Moreover, what has that got to do with Elisabeth Fritzl being serially raped and brutalised in a cellar in Austria for more than 17 years by her father and your god completely ignoring her plight? I'll answer for you: nobody was listening to her prayers! Oh, yes, I've read it - cover to cover and many times over.
@Tapiola2007 "I'll answer for you: nobody was listening to her prayers! "
Or their other excuse, "sometimes the answer is no".
Why do they invade nice videos about outer space and the sciences behind them with the moronic ideas of a godt out there? I swear, some nebula have the appearance that a planet destroying bomb went off and left the imprint of a truck (don't ask me to find it again) or a face that was near the epicenter.
@Tapiola2007 "Oh, yes, I've read it - cover to cover and many times over."............. so you are perfectly aware of the fact that the Bible explains that the show is not being ran by Almighty God for the moment but a usurper to his position.
@tahitiwibble What an insane thing to say! Got trouble explaining why god allows suffering? Easy, blame somebody else. What a crazy fantasy world you must live in!
@Tapiola2007 There are no more miracles for the time being, this is clearly explained in the Bible. God didn't strike Hitler with death either. Unfortunately there have been many Elizabeth Fritzl's throughout history. She was not in God's hands, she was in her father's. But God will set things right and she will have the opportunity to forget those 17 years when compared to everlasting life and peace.
@tahitiwibble You are a sick and unfeeling individual. How dare you quote Bible verses at me as an excuse for the wrongs that people do to one another. I'm sure you could "continue on and on" - your delusion knows no limit. I think I'll take a shower to wash your filth off me!
@Tapiola2007 I am genuinely sorry to have caused such vexation! The quoted scriptures, and many more like them, merely explained why this system of things, or the "world", is in such a sad and sorry state. The true Almighty God was not responsible for Elizabeth's fate, nor that of those in the concentration camps. Please read those scriptures. Devilish things are the fault and responsibility of the Devil and NOT Jah! The Bible DOES describe the reason for wrongs that people do to one another.
@tahitiwibble I'm replying to a person who exhibits every symptom of deep delusion. You think there's an invisible sky god who made the world with you in mind and who, despite his apparent omnipotence, is powerless to stop human beings doing the most awful things to one another. No, let me guess what you'll say next: "he's not powerless, he just has a plan and if that means letting the devil do bad stuff, well, we'll just have to accept that - he's god and those are his rules!" Seek help!
@Tapiola2007 I see from your profile that I am apparently not the only one to have born the brunt of your seemingly volatile temper. I leave you in peace and wish you well.
@Haliotro the problem is that whatever evidence is presented would never be good enough for atheists. Actually, your last two words remind me of religious bigots = just because I haven't experienced it, it cannot exist. Science does not explain everything - even scientists will admit that. Millions and millions of people have had changed lives through religion and you say this is just delusion. The hospitals should be overflowing!!!!!!
@sdensley The only reason that your god is defined that way is so that no one is able to challenge it's existence. By saying it is incomprehensible it shuts down anyone's arguments because you just counter it by saying they can't understand it.
@JuneauGold I see that it is difficult to get the correct message across, and that there are answers to most, if not all of the questions; you just don't know these answers. Hey, no-one's perfect.
However, I think you are going about this the wrong way. The youtube comments system is a really bad place to have a religious debate, because not only are many people here to troll, but arguments from both sides just sound petty, not well thought out, and rude.
6,892,900,000 witnesses to evolution. 2 to Christianity. Unless anyones got Adams mobile number, or Eve's fax.. I think we might aswell all go to the pub and settle this over a pint.
@pepguitar Why limit evidence of evolution to human beings? Every single living organism on the planet. past and present. bears witness to the single most astonishing fact: the universe gave rise to life. The answer to the question "Are we alone?" will be the second most astonishing fact of existence. Not sure where the ability to brew beer comes on the list of astonishing facts, but pretty high!
@JuneauGold Scientific discovery and understanding often leads to benefits we could never have imagined. Human drive to understand and achieve has helped us overcome many obstacles. We spend more money on war, war that is driven by ignorance, and I hesitate to say this, but war that is backed by religious zeal. If science has shown us we are all the same, why do Muslims, Jew's and Christians claim to be different?
Science long ago revealed religion for what it truly is, lies.
@Indie9999 Careful, don't tap them all with the same brush, that's a bit ignorant itself. You're talking about fundamentalist / extremists, not the majority of people with faith.
@nyrenus I know it's an ignorant thing to say that war is all about religion, but religion does create sides, which i'm sure the people on these sides don't agree with, but it's just an extra log on the fire. Having countries also separates us. I'm all for no borders, no passports, all together, because I don't respect boundries, religious or otherwise, i say we are all the same.
@rlwieneke Muslims are going to behead me? When!? Where!? Sheesh! I'm going to Rajastan soon! Is this where they will get me!? Tell me what you know? Help me man! For the love of.........science and all that's rational :) help me!!!
@Indie9999 Tell them to their face while you are there something like muhammad is a child molester and see what happens. Tell them Fuck allah in front of one of their mosques and see what happens. Tell a Christian to their face something offensive about Jesus or God and we will whiteness to you.
Respond to this video...My views on religion swing wildly around, sometimes I feel quite accepting, and then sometimes I feel like shouting at people saying "COME ON! DON'T BE SO STUPID!", with religion if your taking it as truth, especially this "The bible is the word of god and the truth, a true historical testimony" stuff, then it just reeks of a suspension of critical thinking. If this is someones view then they have no place in a discussion about it, because its a faith thing!
How can you look at the sky and deny that it was GOD. The colours, shapes even the constellations are perfectly shaped, this can't have happened by chance.
@ProcyonAlpha "The colours, shapes even the constellations are perfectly shaped, "
In your warped mind it is all perfect. Shapes? There are every 'shape' available to view, and each is perfect?? Why is it religious loons insist on flooding beautiful space videos with their brand insanity?
@tufanyatta They are stars. They look bigger because they are in the "foreground." Remember, this isn't a "fly-by" in a 3D model, it's just a zoom-out on a 2D image.
Those using the term "theory" when they mean "hypothesis" need to brush up on their science. A theory grows out of a collection of data that explains how the data all fits together. Gravity, evolution and quantum physics are theories; each based on massive empirical data. A hypothesis is a guess that can be tested and either refuted or supported (never "proven"). When you get enough supported hypotheses, a theory emerges. If enough hypotheses challenge the theory, it changes.
@JuneauGold You stated: "totally agree but if only it was about giving £100 to Haiti - at least you've done your bit and you can feel much better......... and then you stated "you lost your credibility with saying how much you donated to Haiti."
That's the second time you've contradicted yourself. And BTW, I didn't catch how much you gave to Haiti? After all it was you who started banging on about giving money to the needy. I did and now you're condemning me?
@JuneauGold Last time I looked bible was explicit on the 'how'. Opening lines... something about 7 days... earth created before sun... that kind of thing n'est-ce pas?
@JuneauGold We need to know, because when we live in ignorance, we allow ourselves to be manipulated and controlled by those who pretend to know. We need a defence against those who prey on ignorance and fill the knowledge gaps with superstition and fear inducing lies, designed to get people to surrender their free will and their money. These predators attack knowledge and the desire to know, because knowledge is their enemy.
@JuneauGold A lot of current technology is derived from natural occurrences, so looking into telescopes although will most likely not open up many avenues for new technology it's at least worth a try; or at least possibly worth the expenditure. (We need our horoscopes too!)
@JuneauGold Oh, just re-read your comment: "and the Bible I believe also has some decency in explaining the earth was created by a Creator - why do we need to know how the earth was created?"
Your logic is impeccable. Can you see how you've contradicted yourself? That's really funny! :)
@JuneauGold Why spend billions on anything, churches, clergy and TV evangalists included? But I agree with you that giving to those in need is of extreme importance. I gave £100 to the Haiti earthquake appeal. How much did you give?
@andreika213 How can you look at the sky and deny that it was a GOD who did this. The colours, shapes even the constellations are perfectly shaped, this can't have happened by chance.
you're all wrong. this was created in the beginning of time by the flying spaghetti monster, when it got totally drunk. may his noodly appendage touch you to enlighten you one day.
To this religious debate, It's funny isn't it. When I was a child I thought there was only one country, because I didn't know any better. I thought there'd be earthquakes when I moved to Germany, because I didn't know any better. Then I was told about God and how he did all those things, because I didn't know any better. Science seems to be finding more and more evidence to back up it's claims, yet no one has prooved the tooth fairy doesn't exist, so I'll believe in that.
Cool vid, very beautiful! I have a theory of how the big bang theory started. God did an almighty fart! Well the theory states everything started as gasses so it could be! (No offence intended!) I like the mystery of not knowing! If we knew the answer then we wouldn't progress! Just remember peeps life itself is most important whatever you believe in!

@skegetchy "The very first two comments summed this up nicely - then things deviated slightly. "
With your head on your shoulder, you sead it. Why do 'they' insist on dragging their myths into these perty pix.
These are far out.
How long until we will be able to look at an area out there, and just like tuning in a radio station in, tune through the entire seen and unseen spectrum at our will? Up and down and superimpose them all into one view. Electrifying.
I agree ,forget the words Creator and God etc. but try to imagine a life force that is both beyond and within everything and that also relates to consciousness. A number of leading physicists discuss this in private , but cannot do so publicly. They are talking about the universe being conscious and that we are a part of that mystery too within our own being at the deepest levels of the material universe.Somehow that makes sense to me intuitively .
Like moths drawn to a flame, the religions peons gather to flap wildly and ineffectively at a light that burns their miniscule minds and burns everything they believe to be true. That's what happens when real, actual truth meets the pathetic belief systems of the religious.
The convoy of human knowledge continues to move on despite how much the dogs of ignorance bark.
@JuneauGold Regarding creating from nothing, your disbelief is based on your macroscopic life on Earth. Subatomic particles spontaneously appear out of nothing on a very frequent basis; it's not so astonishing.
@babysan13: The 'ball' there is the celestial sphere (essentially all the sky visible from earth). The purple regions are the parts of the sky that the SDSS telescope has taken images of. You can see that it has covered most of the sphere, which is a huge feat!
@Shonkhor: My pleasure! Actually, it's zoomed in on another galaxy at the start: the Whirlpool Galaxy, which is about 31 million light years away. We cannot see our own galaxy in the same way that we see the Whirlpool Galaxy, because we are already inside our own galaxy - we cannot get an 'outside view'! So instead, it appears as a bright band of light across the night sky (the light coming from all the other stars in our galaxy). Check out 'Milky Way' on Google images, you'll see what I mean!
@JuneauGold And hordes of people don't know that at the sub-atomic level particles come into and out of existence spontaneously. Matter is boiling and roiling in a continuous seething mass of matter and anti-matter. It's called the 'quantum foam' and it's utterly astonishing. The truth is NO-ONE knows how the universe began. Whether science or religon, it's ALL conjecture. However, at least science has the decency to state it's (many) versions of the origin of the universe are theories.
@suzkid3 and the Bible, I believe, also has some decency in explaining the earth was created by a Creator - why do we need to know how the earth was created when we spend billions and billions on telescopes to speculate and theorise about the universe when we can use that money to help the poor, Third World projects that help people who are dying or living miserable lives while we look at pictures of the universe? Now that's where I would say it becomes "indecent" in terms of what is important
@suzkid3 the Bible, I believe, also has some decency in explaining the earth was created by a Creator. But why do we need to know how the universe was created when we spend billions and billions on telescopes to speculate and theorise about the universe when we can use that money to help the poor or Third World projects to help people who are dying or living miserable lives. Instead we look at pictures of the universe and speculate & argue - now that's "indecency" to put it mildly
@druckz Not correct. Scientists happily acknowledge 'god' as a theory - it's just that it is one of EXTREMELY LOW probability because of lack of evidence. Scientists' theories are EVIDENCED-BASED and thus can only ever be stated as "the evidence supports the theory that...". This is because science is about the continuous revision of theory as new evidence emerges. How many times has religion revised it's theories these past 2000 years? If that isn't ignorance, I don't know what is.
@suzkid3 The truth is I can't speak for all religions, but in Judaism, beliefs about creation have FIT WITH theories have been introduced and we believe a force called "G-d" started the universe which now continues to expand. This theory is backed up Dr Robert Jastrow, which was been backed by Hawking saying "Many people do not like the idea that time has a beginning, probably because it smacks of DIVINE intervention, nonetheless current evidence suggests the universe will expand forever"
@suzkid3 Why would something change when it has reached its finite truth. That's like suggesting that, at some point, we will revise our understanding of the earth being round. Of course science changes but science isn't religion - you are dealing with apples and pears. Go read some books and address the ignorance you seem to think others have and you don't...man, what a waste of my time having to deal with elementary comments laced with intricate words - are we supposed to think ur bright?
No Youtube video is complete without a raving theist/atheist argument in the comment section!

Haliotro 1 year ago
@Haliotro After having gained insight into what the Bible is all about, we know very well what causes bad things to happen. I obviously disagree on the 'placebo effect' and like to relish the 'hope effect' that especially the God of the Bible gives us. An atheists future is rather grim, do you not think?
tahitiwibble 1 year ago
@tahitiwibble The reason you feel that you need the "hope effect" is that you are disturbed by the temporary nature of your life and the things you care about. Because you are disturbed, you feel it necessitates that everyone is disturbed if they don't have hope in some immortal life or divine, eternal fulfillment. I accept reality and it doesn't bother me. It was only when I was constantly longing for some INFINITE satisfaction that I was once unhappy (17 year old). Now I am extremely happy.
Haliotro 1 year ago
@Haliotro No, not at all. I was speaking of the "hope effect" as a fact, not a need. One comes to realize that we have a hope of something better only after diligent study and meditation. It's a process not unlike a scientist uses where we look back at how ancient prophesy has come true to the letter in the past, and we start to have a solid faith, "the assured expectation of things hoped for, the evident demonstration of realities though not beheld", in what is prophesied for the future.
tahitiwibble 1 year ago
@tahitiwibble "how ancient prophesy has come true to the letter in the past"
Extraordinary claims demands extraordinary proof. You imagined something came true because others told you they have come true. Comsider the source, is it someone that depends on your faith to put meat on his potatos?

@ISamuelII LOL "meat & potatoes" Oh nooo! I would never have anything to do with pan handlers like those that are so rampant in the USA. The collapse of the soviet union brought about the golden age of christianity Athiesm declined fast. Every test done on laboratories by famous scientists have failed to prove life being produced by inorganic matter.

I have no problem with the big bang - I don't see why God could not be watching over the big bang just as he watches over those who pray to him.
sdensley 1 year ago
@sdensley please give evidence that he "watches over" a person who prays to him... If prayer worked we would have no need for medical knowledge, work, or anything. We could just all ask and recieve. Pathetic delusion
Haliotro 1 year ago 3
@Haliotro Thanks, I was hoping someone would ask. I have had prayers answered many times. Hopeless situations that have turned themselves around after prayer, happy coincidences and once a message written in chalk on the pavement outside my house that answered a very specific question that I had just privately prayed about (not out loud, and not anything anyone else could know or predict, etc.). This is part of my own personal store of evidence. Pathetic is the arrogance that denies such things.
sdensley 1 year ago
@sdensley How arrogant to claim that your prayers have been answered. What about someone like Elisabeth Fritzl who was imprisoned and raped by her own father for years - giving birth to 7 of his children. A Catholic, she undoubtedly prayed for deliverance, which only came when one of the children became severely ill. The fact is, there is nobody listening. Your personal store of evidence is all part of the fabric of your own personal delusion. If it makes you happy, great. Otherwise, stow it!
Tapiola2007 1 year ago
@Tapiola2007 did anyone ever say that if you pray all your dreams will come true and nobody will ever suffer? Try reading the Bible (it's difficult in places but clearly someone with your knowledge of the doctrine of prayer and suffering will have no problem) and you will see how people and communities had to deal with suffering throughout their whole lives. Must go, I just spilt my coffee but if I wait a few million years it will somehow make its way back into the coffee cup by itself!
HEbelievesinatheists 1 year ago
@HEbelievesinatheists Utter BS! The classic religious cop out: "Nobody ever said it was going to be easy". Which really translates into: prayer is a complete waste of time but when we can point to something and say "we prayed for that" we claim it as a success, and when we pray for something but don't get it we say "it's god's will". You're such f*****g infants!
Tapiola2007 1 year ago
@Tapiola2007 dude you sound damaged, I'd offer to pray if it wasn't such a touchy subject for ya! If ya looking for a genie to suddenly help you sort out a few life problems like money or relationships then, you're right, God probably ain't for you. But if you need help with your temper, he can sort that providing you............yep............pray (sorry to mention the "p" word, don't freak out). BTW, I'm only one person so don't really get the "infants" bit.
HEbelievesinatheists 1 year ago
@HEbelievesinatheists At least you can distinguish the grammatical 1st and 3rd person: although I was taking all religious people as my example, not just you. "Damaged"? Hardly. Frustrated? Very likely. How tiresome it is to read/hear people like you ramble on about the power of prayer. You've never had a prayer answered - you just convince yourself that no matter how you pray and whatever the results might be, god is working his plan for you. Dawkins is spot on when he calls it delusional.

tahitiwibble 1 year ago
@tahitiwibble The Bible may well talk about why people do bad things but what has that got to do with the truth value of the claims made in the book? Moreover, what has that got to do with Elisabeth Fritzl being serially raped and brutalised in a cellar in Austria for more than 17 years by her father and your god completely ignoring her plight? I'll answer for you: nobody was listening to her prayers! Oh, yes, I've read it - cover to cover and many times over.
Tapiola2007 1 year ago
@Tapiola2007 "I'll answer for you: nobody was listening to her prayers! "

Tapiola2007 1 year ago
@Tapiola2007 I am genuinely sorry to have caused such vexation! The quoted scriptures, and many more like them, merely explained why this system of things, or the "world", is in such a sad and sorry state. The true Almighty God was not responsible for Elizabeth's fate, nor that of those in the concentration camps. Please read those scriptures. Devilish things are the fault and responsibility of the Devil and NOT Jah! The Bible DOES describe the reason for wrongs that people do to one another.
tahitiwibble 1 year ago
@tahitiwibble I'm replying to a person who exhibits every symptom of deep delusion. You think there's an invisible sky god who made the world with you in mind and who, despite his apparent omnipotence, is powerless to stop human beings doing the most awful things to one another. No, let me guess what you'll say next: "he's not powerless, he just has a plan and if that means letting the devil do bad stuff, well, we'll just have to accept that - he's god and those are his rules!" Seek help!

@Haliotro the problem is that whatever evidence is presented would never be good enough for atheists.

@sailtv lol I found that the 'debate' was a little one sided, so I thought I should try to balance it out.

@marsdeng Yep, if you zoom in further, you can see just make out one small piece of fairy cake.

I am now a believer in the "Particles so small you can't see them" instead of the "God so big you can't see him".

@babysan13 its the entire map of the sky...from bbc:
Astronomers have released the largest-ever colour image of the whole sky, stitched from seven million images, each made of 125 million pixels.

Can someone explain what the spinning ball with purple patterns at the end is all about please?
babysan13 1 year ago
@babysan13: The 'ball' there is the celestial sphere (essentially all the sky visible from earth). The purple regions are the parts of the sky that the SDSS telescope has taken images of. You can see that it has covered most of the sphere, which is a huge feat!

@Bunthulhu
Wow, that is amazing, thanks for your reply. So the animation is initally zoomed in on our galaxy?
Shonkhor 1 year ago
@Shonkhor: My pleasure! Actually, it's zoomed in on another galaxy at the start: the Whirlpool Galaxy, which is about 31 million light years away. We cannot see our own galaxy in the same way that we see the Whirlpool Galaxy, because we are already inside our own galaxy - we cannot get an 'outside view'! So instead, it appears as a bright band of light across the night sky (the light coming from all the other stars in our galaxy). Check out 'Milky Way' on Google images, you'll see what I mean!

@kiev786 what if using the word god brings up a fine of 1000$? will people make a loan or switch names?
cosilica1 1 year ago
@JuneauGold And hordes of people don't know that at the sub-atomic level particles come into and out of existence spontaneously. Matter is boiling and roiling in a continuous seething mass of matter and anti-matter. It's called the 'quantum foam' and it's utterly astonishing. The truth is NO-ONE knows how the universe began. Whether science or religon, it's ALL conjecture. However, at least science has the decency to state it's (many) versions of the origin of the universe are theories.
suzkid3 1 year ago 28
@suzkid3 and the Bible, I believe, also has some decency in explaining the earth was created by a Creator - why do we need to know how the earth was created when we spend billions and billions on telescopes to speculate and theorise about the universe when we can use that money to help the poor, Third World projects that help people who are dying or living miserable lives while we look at pictures of the universe? Now that's where I would say it becomes "indecent" in terms of what is important

JuneauGold 1 year ago
@suzkid3 Apart from the decency to state that their COULD be a "Creator" along with the many other theories.
druckz 1 year ago
@druckz Not correct. Scientists happily acknowledge 'god' as a theory - it's just that it is one of EXTREMELY LOW probability because of lack of evidence. Scientists' theories are EVIDENCED-BASED and thus can only ever be stated as "the evidence supports the theory that...". This is because science is about the continuous revision of theory as new evidence emerges. How many times has religion revised it's theories these past 2000 years? If that isn't ignorance, I don't know what is.
suzkid3 1 year ago
@suzkid3 The truth is I can't speak for all religions, but in Judaism, beliefs about creation have FIT WITH theories have been introduced and we believe a force called "G-d" started the universe which now continues to expand. This theory is backed up Dr Robert Jastrow, which was been backed by Hawking saying "Many people do not like the idea that time has a beginning, probably because it smacks of DIVINE intervention, nonetheless current evidence suggests the universe will expand forever"
druckz 1 year ago
@suzkid3 Why would something change when it has reached its finite truth. That's like suggesting that, at some point, we will revise our understanding of the earth being round. Of course science changes but science isn't religion - you are dealing with apples and pears. Go read some books and address the ignorance you seem to think others have and you don't...man, what a waste of my time having to deal with elementary comments laced with intricate words - are we supposed to think ur bright?
