  • Fun to funky!

  • This ones growing on me.... Catchy.

  • Bowie is a legend, im 27 so wasnt even born when this song was released or to be fair most of his better material, but my mum was a huge fan back in the 70/80's and would play his albums all the time, and for just that i have to thank her!

  • "I've never done good things... I've never done bad things... i never did anything out of the blue whao' O"... The Lament of average men vocalized brilliantly by an Extraordinary man...

  • I'm happy, hope you're happy too.

  • every time i hear this song it reminds me of the happy caravan

holidays we had at winthorpe skegness also the boomtown rats i don`t like mondays and patrick herendez born to be alive .......happy days

  • Major Tom wasn't an allegory for drug taking, it was about space travel and manifest destiny outerspace exploration.

  • 1. How much do you think they paid the guy in the bulldozer following them.

    2. Who is the old lady at the end?

  • I LOVE these lyrics. He's incredible. So... incredible

  • advertisements make me want to die!!

  • You make a good argument.

  • I like this song. And the video is excelent. This is art, not the kind of shit are made these days...

  • I've never done good things.I've never done bad things.....I've never did anything out of the blue,etc...... whoa, whoa. That verse really gets me.

  • I've never done good things.I've never done bad things.....

  • F**ing genius. Very few artists have come close to the level of inventiveness.

  • @lolabel yeah, he is!!!

  • 'Ashes to ashes, funk to funky, we know Major Tom's a junkie. Strung out on heaven's high, hitting an all time low.'

  • This brings good memories..1980..

  • 1990's? This sounds more like a early 80's late 70's song.

  • This is a FUCKING MASTERPIECE.

It doesn't deserve to be overshadowed by Poker Face or Baby.

    Down with Post -1990's Music!

  • Why the patting the ground? What does that signify?

  • @Dablkwid0w2008 Its pretty strange, I've seen it in a few of his videos so it must mean something?

  • Did you know that The Video for this song cost £250,000, but it is well worth the money!

  • I love bo BOWIE is great and beautifull man sa video est superbe comme bab i love

  • Yeah, if you notice Steve Strange stumbles infront of the bulldozer?

  • didnt realize Steve Strange from Visage was in this video. Thanks wiki

  • Are his eyes naturally like that?

  • @TheLovelyLeecha Yes, one eye is permanently dilated...from a fight over a girl.

  • By the way...who´s Lady gaga?

  • Speechless I am at watching this video. What an artist ! PSYCHEDELIC !

  • by the way...Who´s Lady Gaga?

  • This song is my ring tone '-)

  • did anybody see the VENTURE BROTHERS episode with the monologue from this song?

  • bloke is a wanker

  • A GENIUS............

  • IF ONLY THEY COULD MAKE MUSIC LIKE THIS TODAY!

  • "The little green wheels are following me... I'm stuck with a valuable friend...... "

  • this video is fucking brilliant.

  • i never liked bowie as a kid and then when i was 15 i saw this video on moby's show 'senor moby's house of music' on mtv and changed my life. he also played joy division that same night, and again changed my life. thank you moby and thank you bowie!

  • gotta say this has been my fave Bowie song since I was a kid, still sounds fantastic! Bowie you're a fucking genius.

  • One of the first records I ever bought -I think I was around 11 circa 1981 - anyway it's the most awesome music video of the 1980's and still one of my favorite singles of all time -definitely in my Top10.

  • I have loved Bowie for sooooo long!!

  • 1980 was a scary year, Closer (Joy Division), death of Ian Curtis, death of John Lennon, scary albums and.. this... Genius though

  • This song is about his cocaine addiction. "The action man" and "valuable friend" is the drug. He speaks of wanting to come down. Major Tom is probably him when he's a junkie. I see the Blitz kids in the video with him as representing the drugs because they always chime in when the drug in the song is talking "I'm happy hope you're happy too". There are also Ingmar Bergman and Fellini references in the imagery. I'm guessing Bowie was a fan. Brilliant video and masterpiece of a song!

  • @Tigerlily21 I could've sworn it was heroin, not cocaine he was referring to.

  • ashes to ashes funk to funky we kno major toms a junkie damn i love bowie

  • hes weird. i love him.

weird is good so im not insulting him at all(:

    i love being weird.

    fuck the normies!

  • Is this song about david's drug addiction

  • David Bowie is Godly.

  • it's was the favourit Bowie song of my lost Claudine

Claudine is died in july 01 2009, she was the love of my life.

Now i cry i cry i cry forever.

    Patrick

  • In case anyone was wondering, the song, space oddity is a really well veiled heroin reference; Major tom is heroin, ground control is the person doing it.

'this is ground control to major tom, you've really made the grade, and the papers want to know, who shot you where.' - good heroin

and I think this song is David bowie's anti heroin revisitation of the situation

"My momma said, to get things done. You'd better not mess with major tom."

  • @WhenTheMusicsOver2

Isn't the line ''whose shirts you wear?''?

  • @WhenTheMusicsOver2

sorry, bowie didn't even like heroin

space oddity was written after he watched 2001

  • Time and again I tell myself

    I'll stay clean tonight

But the little green wheels are following me...

  • just have to say Thank You for having this vid up!...still my ALL Time favorite ......

  • I LOVE MAJOR TOM

  • Brilliant song and i love bowie! But also as much as i love bowie, it would be so funny if if the tractor sped up at 1:05!

  • 40 people do not know what music is.

  • @eskiewolf76 I would like to think that they just clicked the wrong button, but I am sad when I think of the state of people who just do not know great music.

  • bowie is an occasional genius.this is 1 of those.brilliant

  • it was a great idea revisting major tom. and the video suggests that 'major tom is trapped somewhere out in space and has been since the 1969 video for space oddity, particularly noticable in the last shot

  • Lady Gaga eat your heart out

  • the start sounds like jae ho

  • David Bowie has that balck arrow thing drawn on his head like Shane Dawson's Shanaynay character ;)

  • Why's David Bowie wearing a condom on his head?

  • i was a kid when i first saw Bowie on tv...i never used to like music until i saw this vid....

  • This is my favorite Bowie song -I love Bowie

  • bowie is the master, and in my humble opinion, this is his masterpiece. long live pierrot, steve strange, and, of course mr bowie.

  • I like the painter who did the cover of this album

  • Note too self: Do NOT Mess with Major Tom...

  • alright i have to say, david scares me sometimes, but i love him anyway!!!

  • If Ipod or Ipad had been around when this song came out I would have been like jesus, god almighty, This is the rapture the cazies are all talking about!

  • Who's Gaga?

  • I do! He is incredibly talented!

  • EWW dont talk about gaga here. She/He is not worthy to be near a David Bowie video

  • gaga and bowie are totally different. one is a real artist, and the other one....just a pop star

  • @genbai We don't know that yet. I see GaGa as a real artist on the level of Bowie. She is young. Give her some time. I think is funny and she knows it. She means to be ironic in the true sense of the word. Bowie Forever!!!!

  • If you go onto bad romance by lady gaga there is a dude who is totally hilarous he is going on about gaga like she was something SPECIAL!! :D It will make your day, I know it has made mine ;) BOWIE FOREVERRRRRRRR!!!!!! <33333333333

  • if you were rating the top 10 videos of all time, this gets in. So scary yet so hilarious. The old woman with Bowie in the freak suit at the end is classic. You better not mess with Major Tom indeed.

  • ashes to ashes fun to funky we know major toms a junkie

  • great song......creepy video lol

  • GREAT! just GREAT SONG!

  • probably heard this song 100 times before seeing this video. and now Bowie's genius is clear in both the audio and visual spectrums

  • absolute classic, there is no-one like david bowie

  • Saw this video when it 1st came out. Sorry to differ but there is no comparing this to anything these days

  • There's just one way to say this. This is a master piece.....

  • how the fuck can u compare bowie to ga ga ,the artists today dont have a patch on bowie :)

  • Bowie's in SPACE!!!!

  • I LUV THIS!!!!! THANKS

  • there are a lot of ways you can compare ga ga and bowies image, stop trying to be an elitist faggot.

  • the cyberpunk scenery of the life-support shot is great... This video is very impressive for 1980.

  • @voutespancar Way ahead of it's time.

  • I can see where Marilyn manson's influence comes from if david bowie is his influence.

  • Comment removed

  • I'M HAPPY HOPE YOU'RE HAPPY TOO.

  • Steve strange in this one.

  • @goombabear hey, you're right. That is Strange!!! As many times as I've seen this vid and a big of a Visage fan as I am I can't believe I never noticed that!

  • David Bowie is a genius. The End. :-)

  • This probably inspired one of my favorite "Venture Brothers" episodes...although the bit about Keith Flint was my favorite part of that one. XD

  • So, wait, Major Tom's dead?

Well, this is definitely a fitting dadaistic techno-industrial elegy.

  • @SpartanJose777 Sounds like something Robert Christgau would say.

  • who the hell dislikes this? assholes

  • hmmm...some mental retardation going on here....gaga STEALS from bowie...like all modern pop artists....bowie wasn't "pop" in his time....just like pink floyd wasn't "rock"...you people are idiots

  • Does anybody else find this song ABSOLUTELY AMAZING?

  • @saggysack23 yes.

  • @saggysack23 yes

  • @saggysack23 I Do!

  • @saggysack23 asking if anybody else DOESNT find this song ABSOLUTELY AMAZING would get less likes

  • @saggysack23 ME!

  • @saggysack23

I Do ! I can listen to it again and again and again...

  • @saggysack23 absolutely yes! the more i listen to this song the more i get addicted to it!

  • Wow, I get that Venture Brothers episode now. They have characters named Major Tom and the Action Man. Check out the episode Ghosts of the Sargasso. And several others have the Action Man, and a lot have David Bowie as a character. Great song.

  • @thecompton01 Mate, listen to space oddity, they literally take a whole segment of that song and put it in the beginning of the episode in the form of dialogue.

  • @ReynardTGA Yeah, I knew that part of it. That's why I posted something on this one. I didn't know where the beginning of the dialogue came from.

  • I like a lot of classic artists and music, but I never really enjoyed this song. Iunno, maybe I'm just wierd. :)

  • il poliedrico e geniale duca bianco non teme confronti.

  • When was young, Bowie was at the height of his career, but I was too young to understand the metaphoric implications of his lyrics and the brilliant symmetry of his music.

I'm 45 now and in my opinion, music hasn't gone much far beyond him.

  • My mum's the nurse at the sink - 1.41 -1.54 , got DB's autograph 'cos of it !

  • @nottheborgagain Did she get blown up?

  • @TimonofBath . No, but the didn't warn her of the explosions, which is why she jumps so.

  • @nottheborgagain Are you okay? I mean did you come out okay as a human being. Just Kidding. LOL. Great for you and your Mom....Dose she ever talk about what he is like to work with.

  • @iamariarilke . She wouldn't class it as "working" together, 'cos the crowd actors (extras) don't hang about with the stars. Having said that, he was friendly when signing his autograph. BTW, she was surprised it ended up as a music vid as the whole days where part of shooting the Kenny Everett Show.

  • @nottheborgagain How very fortunate for you and your mom! I'm one jealous person right now!! LOL :-)))

  • The real difference is that Ga Ga will be forgotten(here today, gone tomorrow). Ga G..What the fuck ... Just another dumb ass bitch who barely carries a tune and dresses "HIP'' . Another year, she'll be another 'Pop' memory, unlike Joan Jett; A Woman who rocks(hard, mind you) for the bacon. You fuckers just don't know... While Bowie can still sing me to sleep, while a Ga Ga will weep.

  • @MrChickenman1971 I remember back in the day, they said the same thing about Bowie...

Say what you will about 'Ga Ga', she is the most talented musician of her peer group

  • The clown scares me since I watched one particular tv show....

  • Memories ahhhhh........

  • Respond to this video... strange video man

  • @thewalrus136 strange but bloody brilliant

  • OMG. XAVIER LE POP STAR loves BOWIE so much. He is a GOD!!!!

  • That synth part at the very end is lovely.

  • Ah Classic, memories.

  • Awesome!!!

  • never heard of this guy..

  • where u been holmes?

  • @twomorefish haha I guess it wasnt my time period. but not a bad song :)

  • I have to say, Lady Gaga draws inspiration from Bowie, like Marilyn Manson did. She's a modern day Bowie but she still has alot to learn.

Here he was like 15 years into his career. She's got a really good heart and undeniable talent, just imagine where she'll be in a decade.

  • @SuBsAnDwIcH200

Sorry mate, her talent is zero. She's all smoke and mirrors. Silly pop songs with tryhard videos and ridiculous outfits to garner attention. Don't bother comparing.

  • @M1FFY She got sued for stealing some other guys songs, her talent is indeed literally zero.

  • @HighPriestofLemuria everybody steals from everybody, ask muddy or chuck

  • @twomorefish Oh I guess that makes it ok then.

  • @SuBsAnDwIcH200

Undeniable talent? You make me laugh. She's a shitty generic pop writer that will be unheard of in 10 years.

  • No words!

  • 'Ashes to ashes, fun to funky' sounds so damn cool. :O

  • scattered broken pieces ,,,

  • bowie and mercury, unfortunately there aren't too many like them

  • Bowie was a true and genuine talent, one of those rare gems that we are fortunate to see. There is nothing around today to even come close to his ability.

  • @1966redbaron I agree!! is this Shawn by any chance?

  • gaga modanna, every artist after this guy started has followed in his foot steps. Am I an avid bowie fan , no. Do I have some of his albums, yes. But al that aside the guy is a genius, and I doubt will ever be bettered. He has set the standard.

  • I am getting tired of reading Bowie vs. Gaga comments. Why does she have to be a Bowie wannabe? She's great! Let her create her art independant of Bowie. Sure she's no Bowie, but you guys tell me, who in music history is a Bowie?

  • @seviwesuohetarepsed no1........bowie's a 1-off-one of the only true great originals:D

  • @seviwesuohetarepsed the spiders made him great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • great song!

  • Contrary to rumors, David Bowie and Lady Gaga have not teamed up to work on the pop star's upcoming album. Bowie shot down any and all speculation with a statement on his official website, which in part reads, "The suggestion that David Bowie is producing and participating in the production of Lady Gaga's next album is untrue and a hoax."

    TFFT

  • They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Copy away all you wanna be's you will NEVER be close to the original - Bowie rocks!!!!!!!!

  • Bowie is a million times better than GaGa. but that doesnt mean shez bad, cuz a million times less thn Bowie is still pretty good. I like tht GaGa is trying to be original, she may rip off madonnas costumes sometimes, but we need people like her in todays music, when trash like Ke$ha is on,who looks like if i touched her i'd get sticky and sings about being drunk.

  • Bowie was and still is a pioneer!!!!

  • @ TheSpitt 11 simply the most objective comment

  • Comment removed

  • @stoyanpm sort of like this one

  • People are just as harshly critical of Lady G as some retards were of Bowie in his early career.Nuff said I think.Luv em both for different reasons and stop quibbling!

  • The only similarities between Bowie and Ga Ga is that they are both male

  • @TheSpitt11 nice one:)

  • @TheSpitt11 lmao...

  • @TheSpitt11

I think the term you're looking for is androgynous. It was quite common in the late 70's/early to mid 80's. Maybe she/he is bringing sexy back? LOL. ;-)

  • @InfamousShroom hahaha whatever 'it' is, it doesn't compare to bowie

  • @TheSpitt11

    hahaha, well put.

  • @TheSpitt11 Saying that is disrespectful to Bowie. haha But true.

  • @NylaStarfollower isn;t it disrrespectful to Gaga if anything?

  • @TheSpitt11 XD that comment just made my day.

  • @TiaLovettTodd hahaha thank you, i like to help where i can

  • David Bowie = Windows 95

Lady Gaga = todays windows 7

Without the history we would never get to the windows 7..... nuff said....

  • oh god david bowie... pleaseeeeeee go back on tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lady Gaga's name doesn't even deserve to appear on the page of a Bowie video. :)
