I have no experience with jet engines what so ever my hobby is tesla turbines but i`m a hobby machinist and like to tinker it seems the valve life is often shorter due to overheating is that right? not particular your engine just general
have you ever tried to cool the valve plate possibly with cooling channels drilled throu the machined block part, under the valve seating area? to prolong valve life. just a thought.
Funny, i thought it was 2012. I figure everyone with a computer and a brain would know about google. Ok, forget the insult just look it up seriously, it's cool. I look forward to seeing awesome people like the guy in the video using other propulsion systems.
ww.z-jet.com.it sell a Zanin z 23 sport,z23RC , z 24 RC & soon a Z 26 with 7.5KG of thrust. A Falcon-120 kit plane is a cheap good plane for the big Pulse Jets.
Well thank you xjet for this anwser. Did you know about any other engines creating thrust with a low cost and a stop, running mecanism. Sorry for my english my mother thong is not english
@xjet Jorg Vogelsang's ME-163 that flew at the QSAA rally circa 1984 was fuel pump fed and had an on-board hi-tension ignition system - there is video of him shutting down then restarting in flight. But admittedly that is getting a little complicated!
hey iv a question: my pulsejet only goes on for 1 second...whats the problem? chamber too big? pipes to small? its valveless...please help...or anyone here who knows a bit about pulsejet!
Would it be possible to have sprung inlet flaps at the side of the intake, as per Harrier, Jaguar etc? These would be tricky to set up, but the principal is that if the engine needs more air the flaps open due to vacuum pressure, at higher flying speeds the airflow will keep them closed.
You don't half go for some hairy approaches. Sounded a little too windy for experimental model flying you crazy man. I love it.....!!! What sort of valve life are you expecting? Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing a perfect flight on a perfect day.
Yeah, it was windy but if I waited for the perfect day I'd never get any flight-testing done. So far the valve-life is outstanding. 20 minutes (mainly static) running and the valves aren't even discolored by heat. The dual-valve setup was something I've been thinking about for years but only just got around to implementing.
What's the plan for getting less air in the engine? Just going to cut back the scoops a little?
A servo moving a nifty balsa door on both sides would be pretty cool, I imagine you could just throw it on an aux channel. Everybody loves added complexity : )
Yeah, I'll probably remove the scoops completely and adjust the inlet area for best effect. Sure is going to honk with that uprated engine on it. The model weighs 7lbs (wet) so 10lbs of thrust will be so much fun! Just wish it had retracts ;-(
You need power valves like the Aprilia RS250, open at a certain speed however in your case close the ducts at a certain speed. ;-) She is looking really fast now and I am looking forward to the next visit down that way.
Don't worry -- I'm modeling the intake system now so it'll be "full speed ahead" next weekend.
I'm also building a purpose-designed pulsejet speed model that I'm hoping to get 300Kph+ out of. It should be done in time for the February jet meeting.
You guys really need to come on down again -- we've been having a ball over the last week or two. DLG, 3D, combat -- you name it, we've been flying it.
When I get through the bulk of the renovations and get my workshop back I will start getting my planes in the air again. Then another visit is well due. ;-) Say late Feb early March before the weather turns on us.
First and foremost I have no clue about jets.

Does it really matter when you run a PJ too lean? or is there added chance of a flame out?

can we turn of the engine and start it after with this type of propulsion or it's no way back?
awnser me please XJET

@owner1610 These engines can't be stopped and restarted in flight. Once they're running, they're running and once they're stopped they're stopped.

I'm curious the amount of fuel such a vehicle could carry. I've noted on the video's I've watched (specifically yours) it seems not very long.
This is a very interesting concept though that I've never looked at before.. Might take up a new hobby :)
daunity 2 years ago
The only pulse jets I've seen (or heard!) are control line speed models at Barkston Heath BMFA Nats. Obviously, they aren't throttled - is yours?
Incidentally, yours doesn't sound half as noisy as the ones I've heard. Probably because the I have the sound turned down a bit :)
That landing approach looked a bit hairy but if you get down in a state ready to fly again it's OK :)
Thanks for posting.
