However, I think that the state and local governments would be much better at handling issues such as education, health care, social security &c &c, they are closer to the problems and more in tune with the needs of their local citezens than D.C. could ever be. Plus, in my opinion, if the states took care of those issues, it would be harder for special intrest groups to have a major impact on everyone.

In immigration if it were left up to the stated then we could have 59 differnt immigration policies. the fed gov has to have the final say in some areas. Mainly having to do with law and enforcement of law.

However, they were very clear time and time again, that the only way man can rule himself, is if he is virtuous and has a belief in a higher power. What Jefferson meant when he said this to the Danbury Baptist Association was, he promised that the general government would not create a state sponsored religion.

However, I think that the state and local governments would be much better at handling issues such as education, health care, social security &c &c, they are closer to the problems and more in tune with the needs of their local citezens than D.C. could ever be. Plus, in my opinion, if the states took care of those issues, it would be harder for special intrest groups to have a major impact on everyone.

But, in the Federalist Papers, Madison explained that if the majority of the citizens of a particular state were in agreement on an issue, that state could pass a law which might be in direct conflict with the laws passed by the general government. The Constitution isn't a suicide pact and when the Feds fail, states must protect themselves
