We all have great asperations when we are young...some of us have different priorities and would rather give up a little money just to be closer to our loved ones. This song is a reminder to me to do what makes me happy and never compromise myself for a little extra dough!
@haxciniaflame thats strange because it reminds me to do the opposite. I had to leave my wife and 2 kids in Bama to find work up north. This song makes me remember to work hard and pay the bills any way I can and teach my kids to be proud and good people and if I do that maybe just maybe they wont make the same mistakes in life I have.
My favorite DBT's song.... My anthem...I live in Muscle Shoals, Al where this song is talking about and go to NWSCC tech school... awsome lyrics not only just because they hit home. Think ill go get a bottle.
@crimsonmonkey It must make your thinking so much easier to base it on stupid assumptions like this. That way you never have to evaluate a person as an individual. My, it sounds exactly like racism in that respect.
@crimsonmonkey I don't think it's shit if he sales his car to by a woman a ring. If you think it is then well... you can burn in the eternal hellfire.
@justinfalterm so are you... aren't we all... your words do not pierce my skin... for this poet sees more than truth in words, and i know what i believe and i believe what i know
I'm 14 and the first time i heard this song ...was the frst time i watched my dad cry. Hes a painter and this song fits his life perfectly. It brings me to tears.
Boy this is one of their softer songs but god what ever happened to rock n' roll? This band seems to be are only survivor. This is just my opinion but I think The Dirty South is their absolute best album. Lookout Mountain is my personal favorite Truckers song :) PS Don't get me wrong I love all truckers albums I even have their new "The Big To Do" album as well all Trucker albums are fantastic.
...scotsman here....got the rebel flag on my arm cause i loved dukes of hazard......read books on the war and watched loads of documentry.............dont sing with a fake british accent............love the south sound..............all the way from the glens...;).......
i was drinking with a good buddy from Newfoundland, listening to decoration day for the 1st time here inVancouver, I left then crashed my bike, and since then, have been addicted to tracks 5 - 9, on repeat incessantly. favourite part is the guitar line at 2:48. Brilliant.
yeah, it's brilliant eh. I actually used that reference in a line of one of my songs years ago. It made me laugh when I heard it in this song, they used it better than i did though, ha.

@wht02lightning That's sad and yet hopeful at the same time. It's sad you had to leave and hopeful because that means there is hope for the future.

Perfect but no one listens. I sure didn't.

There are many "don't forget your roots" songs out there.
This is BY FAR the best that there is.
Always strive to be better, but don't forget who you are in the process. Advice that we all could listen to from time to time.
