*sigh* I'm glad we're friends. K. I have to go proctor med student exams now. Not because I like to say the word proctor, but because I'ma make some sweet sweet dolla dolla bills, knowhaI'msayin. Otherwise I'd keep talking to you ...or myself, whoever I'm talking to. I love onions. Bye.
@updowngroupfood One more day of proctoring tomorrow. It's good money and as for the research I should be doing, well, neuroscience can pretend it's Paul Reubens and go do itself ZING!! HEY-OHHHHH
@TheChristyKelley I used to live up the street from a woman who was a puppeteer on Pee Wee's Playhouse. Her puppet was the Pterodactyl. She got a strange vibe from working on that show. When you hear the secret word scream real loud okay?
Onions are amazing food by the way. I can't believe I forgot to add that. ...sometimes my mentor (= senior scientist I work for) writes APP as ASS in emails to me. Completely by accident. I just accidentally mis-typed 'add', but then I corrected it because grandmothers sometimes pursue the internet.
Great video, however, I have a suggestion. If you start, after you have halved the onion, by cutting the onion vertically followed by doing your horizontal slices, the onion will stay together better and not begin to fall apart as seen in this video.
@nokdapride It's a toss up. No matter which way you slice it there will be issues. So I say do it whatever way you like. Freedom is a wonderful thing. Thanks for watching and commenting. Peace!
Great video... might want to remind people to save that first layer or other remains (minus the skin) - to save for soup stock. (I keep a bag in the freezer full of celery, carrot and onion ends (and occasional dill, cilantro or parsley ends, stems) ~ when I'm ready to make either veggie or chicken stock, I get out the stock bag and voila! Thanks again!
when i want to pick up an emo chick i rub some onion in my eyes while in the bathroom. then i go on to show her how sensitive i am. gets me laid every time.
If you left the root on, it'd be easier to cut as the layers would stick together. The release of the oxides has more to do with the sharpness of the knife and not technique. Technique makes a small difference, but poor technique with a sharp knife is preferable to a shitty knife with good technique. Also you can save yourself some work. You're going to cut the onion in half anyways right? So instead of slicing down the onion and peeling the skin, just cut the onion in half and remove the skin.
u dont need to remove the bottom of the onion for this technique. just the top.
it keeps the onion more together for the slicing, and releases even less chemicals out.
...dont like that music much. things that are played backwards are always annoying. but that backwards beat going through the whole song is just irritating and takes away the attention from the video.
I don't understand why people do the horizontal cuts, the way the onion is naturally layered is the same thing as cutting horizontally, skipping the horizontal cuts also releases less chemicals into the air.
I don't think it's faster, but it definitely worked. No tears THANKS!!
the only suggestion I have is not to cut off both ends at once, but to keep one end intact and cut the onion in half then. It really helps to keep the onion from falling apart when slicing into dices.
My little brother put the music on. He has Logic Pro on his machine. It's a loop of some kind. Don't know the origins but if he reads this comment he can post up what it is. Peace!
Congratulations. You are now walking the path of the kitchen ninja. You must continue your journey. Soon all the pretty girls in Glasgow will want you to make them dinner. Then you become "bedroom ninja."
well apparently my parents won't let me post a youtube video, cause i'm too young (im 12 years old). but i learned it off of a youtube video, but it was kinda just thrown in it at the end, i have no idea what it's called though. if i find it again, i will make sure to inform you! = D
I hope you enjoy this technique. It saves lots of time and many fruits and vegetables can be diced in the exact same way. With practice you'll become incredibly fast.

I can't do vids on the otchacha channel because I can't log in. Otherwise I would gladly make some - grad school is boring as hell.

@updowngroupfood sounds to me u should stick to using your own music. its way better ! :)

@LazyBoyA1 Yes. The part where the onion gets cut in half is very sad. Please don't cry. The onion died for a good cause.

shouldnt you peal the onion first?
pandabear124 3 years ago
It's very hard to peel the onion unless you cut at least one of the ends off first. Peeling it after you've removed the ends is faster.
