  • This song is perfect for making out. Just saying.

  • fuckin groovy.. thanks captain jack

  • sounds like this party I went to once, they kicked me out...they said I was special but I dont think they ment it in a good way.

  • The White Stripes' version is much more raw, reverbed, violent, dirty.

This is more funky, layed-down, it has style, it's almost sensual.

    They're both really good.

  • why are people busy comparing the white stripes version to this. let them both live as great realities to Don Van Vliet's genius.

  • White Stripes version sucks. If you listen carefully the Captain's version "swings" a lot better, thanks to the rest of the musicians and not even mentioning it's played at the "right" volume and tone. 10 outa 10 Captain!!

  • Watch out for the Mirror Man :)))

  • I can't work out how to play the middle part!

  • this sounds so much Like Red Hot chili Peppers "funky monks"

  • I'd like to hear Beefhearts vocals on the White Stripes music...best of both worlds

  • @ArcticEmmet Fuck you.

  • @workatthefarm Wow, good point. I never thought of it that way before but you are right

  • don was backed by a mediocre band here but his vocal is genius ... jack can't touch it

  • I head this song by way of The White Stripes! (I think Jack's pog and whammy pedal on there cover is better)! But Captain Beef died on my brothers birthday!! I COULDN'T believe it, although I'm not a fan,, he died while we were having my brothers party!!

  • Thank you Jack White and Alison Mosshart for introducing me to Captain Beefheart!

  • RIP Captain!!!

  • Aw Captain, the world was a better place for having you in it. Rest in peace. And well-deserving of the word 'legend'.

  • Have fun explaining Trout Mask Replica to God. Rest well.

  • RIP you absolute legend

  • Rest in Peace! Banging tune.

  • RIP el capitan

  • Res in Peace. Have fun jamming with Zappa!

  • Rest well Brother.

  • I now listen to iggy pop, the sonics, delta blues and now captain beefheart all thanks to jack white.

  • sounds like howlin' wolf at some points

  • this should have a music video

  • yeah ! best tune evah

  • Now this I DO like!

  • sick

  • Too bad the rest of this record sucks so much. This song is remarkable, though. Listen to that guitar.

  • You ever heard BlueJeans and Moon Beams you ignorant bastard?

  • Kick ass!!

  • alice in wonderland surrealism

  • Whoa, this is different from TWS' cover.

  • not terribly... just the intro...

  • this song is very interesting. Does anybody has some explanation to provide about its meaning? especially for lines like "I got a brand new game I wanna lay on you"?

  • what does it mean to you? its surrealism. read TS Elliot's essay on objective correlation.

  • Hey! Well, I can relate to this song in a lot of ways, but I guess the meaning of a song is not only about how you can understand it personnally. I'll read this text, thanks a lot!

  • Sorry, I don´t speak english, but this song is the one of the best I´ve every heard. By the way, the lyriks, nobody cares two hoots about it. What I mean this song have a fantastic rhthm, a genial voice, and what I´m understand is enough!

But when you can delivery a german translation I´m be afraid! And I hope I love this song after the translation is to complete whis so!

  • Your English is not bad, especially by YouTube standards!

  • Das Kamel trage nachthemd

An der Partie speziellen Sachen zum zu tun.

    Wenn der steife Wind durchbrennt.

And that's as much as I can do with my GCSE german course.

  • No Problem!!! I don´t know what Don means, but here is my explcation:

Das Kamel (syn. f. Idiot) trägt ein Nachthemd,

auf ´ner Party, wo so spezielle Sachen gemacht werden (means a sexpartiy)

Wenn der steife Wind (means to pass gas!) durchkommt,

And that is the big shit, when the language of the lyrics, not the mother tongue is! You understand, when tranlated, only absoloutly bullshit!

  • Think of Alice in Wonderland.

  • the camel wore a nightie, wonder what that means?

  • Isn't it "the cowboy wore a nightie"?

  • Comment removed

  • no its camel

  • I'll never forget that cowboy in a nightie, though... What a sight!

  • @PerfectMystery the camel wore a nightie

  • When they were looking for a new record label they talked with sub pop a lot but decided not to sign with them and released an ep of captain beefheart covers through them instead.

  • so nasty and rough

  • Yeah! That's why it's so GOOD

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet !!

  • THANK YOU JACK WHITE!!!!!!!! FOR EVERYTHING.... THE MUSIC, THE ACTING, THE LOOKS, THE INTRODUCTIONS TO BEEFHEART, TO PARTON....?, TO SILVERTONE AMPS, TO AIRLINE GUITARS,

HERE'S TO... JACK WHITE a.k.a THE BEST THING SINCE BLUES

    (except the slavery part)

  • amen friend

  • Amen!

  • Don and Jack are both great, but you got to break some eggs to make a soufflé (that slavery part you know) reality is a mean place Chimp, have you checked out "Booker White" doing Aberdeen MS blues

  • I like this but I prefer Beefs Ashtray heart I like the stripes versions too

  • I would love the (original) guitar tabs for this song, so if anyone knows where to find them. Great song

  • i love what the white stripes did with this...i really didnt know it was a cover until today. They dont change the song so much that it looses its integrity - like most of their covers.

    bravo

  • he just took the baseline and made it into the main riff ... but it's sounds great - so does the original :)

  • indeed - i didnt even realize it's a bass on the main riff...nice

  • definitely like this version more. The white stripes are awesome, but this has such a cool, funky feel to it. And you can't beat Don's voice.

  • All this bitching. I had the fucking 8-Track!

  • im glad that someone appreciate this music nowadays and perform/cover it

  • your a sham

  • go on then!

  • His Tragic Band albums aren't that bad.

It's just the other Clear Spot songs redone, with more "Too Much Time".

And seeing as how a pop star and the Tubes covered a Clear Spot song, I see the commercial Reprise-era albums selling more.

  • i can't pick wich one is better. this one or the stripes one, but they both rock like hell

  • yeah they are both pretty tight

  • why do you think the stripes covered it¬

  • i think that you should cover songs that people would not usualy hear, i think the white stripes are basicly saying "listen to captain beefheart"

  • And so I did(listen).

  • I think you're right. Thanks, Jack.

  • @stickyjam1 that's cool

  • @leiposuctie THIS ONE IS BETTER.

  • @superhappyfunbrett no, this one is better, TO YOU, music is aesthetic art, it means something different to everybody.......but yeah, this version is slightly more badass to me too

  • @leiposuctie White Stripes is just bullshit.

  • @workatthefarm i've turned around over the past 3 months, i like beefheart's original better, beefheart owns, but the white stripes will never lose it for me, they introduced this kind of "free expression" music to me as a teen, i would never have heard of beefheart, being dutch euro-trash, without the stripes, and the same goes for a lot of people....

  • @leiposuctie Blablabla
