  • Hey TeddyBoy, I really like this and I'm dancing in my chair. Have always been a C.R. fan. Did you ever seen him in one of his very first movies "Expresso Bongo"? with Lawrence Harvey. I've been trying to find it on video....Thanks for the fantastic share with us all Bro!....I'm listening....Cap...

  • "September 1958, when I first heard of Harry Webb, and he is still number one with me.

  • My older brother was in a skiffle group in the 50s, he & his mates started out liking Tommy Steele , but his corny film appearances put a stop to that . But as soon as the 60s arrived Cliff went down the same route . But in those days we had lots of different singers & types of music , not like now - it all sounds the same .

  • i'd heard this song was 'perfection'. It's not moving me that much though sadly.

  • I prefer this to evlis

  • pretty cool but a bit of a lighweight tune

who knows what happened if cliff stayed rocking n rolling

  • HOLY SHIT NO DISLIKES OMG 100,000 views :c

  • Who the fuck is Elvis?

  • The greatest export the UK ever had. Still goin' strong. Hell our band play Cliff without batting an eye. If it weren't for him, there'd be no us...

  • @overandout58 bollocks, coz ska werent around then so 1970's!!!!

  • Oh my, when i first found out cliff did rock n roll cheesey images came forth in my minds eye, but then I heard this, its really good! Total surprise.

  • Me encanta, ojalá volviese esa época dorada de la música. La pena es no tener hoy en día tanta cultura musical como la de antes

  • where did you get the footage at 0.06 to 0.24? I remember seeing it on the telly when I was a kid!!!

  • That's my kind of sound ! ...

  • this track sounds really good, it's really sounds influential to the late 60s psychedelic rock craze

  • @dethra we shouldn't really but we do it's an age old thing comparing singers ,bands etc.I suppose it's really just banter ..cheers mate

  • Brilliant - his best by far.

  • great vid, GREAT MUSIC

  • jaqand......congratulations for this beautiful video....you really captured the soul of the 50´s.

  • The British King of Rock n Roll showing why he influenced a whole generation of British musician and along with the Shads made music accessible to the masses proberly. Something teens in Britain had never witnessed before. Cliff and The Shads did influence the Beatles and without Cliff the whole British music landscape would happended differently imagine the music scene without Led Zeppelin, Queen, The Beatles, T Rex etc. All of whom where infuenced by Cliff & The Shads.

  • @aldwoolley we could argue by saying without Elvis we wouldn't have Cliff and for you to say The Beatles etc.were influenced by Cliff your way off the mark it was always Elvis they looked up to after all he was THE KING lets not forget that and I'm sure Sir Cliff would agree

  • @hungryherbie

Elvis is no king , he did some great Rock a billy stuff in 54/55 , then made his name covering Chuck Berry and Little Richard in early live shows , in response you gotta check out Little Richard doing Hound Dog , its on youtube and its fuckin awesome !

  • @jaqand Will you stop talking shit saying Elvis is no king .what rubbish whether you like it or not Elvis is the undisputed King of rock and roll fact..don't take my word go to google type in who's the king of rock and roll I rest my case your honour.....yes Chuck Berry.Little Richard Bill Haley Buddy Holly etc.etc were all awesome But

only Elvis was the special one (KING)

  • @hungryherbie for one reason alone, and it wasn't his music.

  • Comment removed

  • The Beatles never said their inspiration came from the english RnR scene-being from Liverpool where sailors would bring home new sounds from the States they always credited the giants from the US Elvis, Chuck Berry, Little Richard etc and (mostly) they are the ones who inspired Cliff, Marty Wilde etc too

  • I think we would have the Beatles without Cliff Richards, but that's only my opinion.

  • YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH THAT'S MUSIC

    I LOVE IT

    GOOGLE JOHAN CAPIAU FANTASMAGORICAL

  • A very fine and loving nostalgic clip poster...many thanks...Elvis, Beatles etc were all the same....great funsters!

  • @ZzoldpeopleburningzZ i see your point, but rock n roll will never die to me. I dont like any of the shite thas about right now. This type of music has been going strong for 50+ years.. have a good day and rock on :-)

  • @ZzoldpeopleburningzZ Well what?

  • NOTHING can replace rock n' roll!

That's why I go for that rock n' roll music!

  • Britains answer to the king of rock and roll ..sorry Cliff you will always be in the Shadows...of Elvis........having said that this is Cliff's best rock and roll song

  • @hungryherbie Well until he went funny took drugs, then got fat and soundd terrible....Cliffe is sqeeky clean as where the beetles despite all the rumours.......so sorry they win hands down as good as Elvis was BEFORE he went funny!

  • @Striker1973666 I agree Cliff is sqeeky clean no doubt there and he seems to be around for ever but if Elvis had looked after himself how many more records would he have broken... still to this day 34 years after his death its Elvis with world wide recognition as the King and I'm afraid Cliff is not in the same league and I'm sure he would agree the gentleman he is

  • @hungryherbie Have to age realy...Elvis is the king of rock of roll...the whole world thinks this...so who am i to say he is not lol! YNWA my friend.

  • @Striker1973666 agree ..cheers mate Herbie

  • @hungryherbie See above .. The truth is Tommy Steele and the Cavemen were Rockin` a couple of years before Cliff !

  • @jaqand yes Tommy was rocking well before Cliff but Tommys hits dried up quickly as soon as Cliff arrived on the scene he was the new darling and the rest is history

  • @hungryherbie

But Cliff only played/sung Rock n Roll for 2 years at the most , then became a movie pop star , he soon lost the edge , but that was down to outside pressures ... At the end of the day , he did Rock for a while :-)

  • According to Cliff's Bio... this was his first hit ... written by their guitarist Ian Samwell...they then were performing as second band in the show of the American group the Drifters.

Audience were more impressed by , and interested in this song than that of the Drifters.

But a shame they had Ian to leave the group....

  • what a good video. CARL

  • Great song, one of his best in my opinion. And to think he was just 18 when he recorded it. I just don't know whats going to replace HIM :-))

  • Man, this guy really wails...looks like you were really rockin over there in the UK. I am just curious why he never "invaded" the USA? I kind of wish he did, I really like his music a lot....and those Shadows... really rockin!!!!

  • @monarkman1957 Cliff Richard made an attempt to "Invade" The U.S. in the early 60's , but , it was'nt happening. He toured here , to little success. He was viewed as a British phenomenon , and his take on Rock 'n' Roll was thought of as different , stylistically . There was some great Rock'n'Roll going on in The UK in the Pre - British Invasion era , but when he did'nt make it , here , it was regarded as a lost cause. Shadows could have been The Ventures' main competition , but , again...

  • Wonderful, no more one word about this rarity, thanks for posting and make all that loves true rock'n'roll shake

  • Let me tell you baby, it's called rock 'n' roll

  • @heavy21metal Thanks Leticia for send this veideo to me, It is pure rock from 50ths

    Mendes

  • Cliff's very first single, and delivered with the heavy beat backing and such confidence. His 2nd double sider was High Class Baby/My Feet Hit the Ground which were faster lyrics and the heavy, catchy, rocker songs that even more gave Cliff the status of a British rock superstar. These records and his appearances on the Oh Boy TV show really defined Cliff's rocking early image.

  • With out Cliff we wouldn't have the Beatles!!!! the original UK Rocker!!!

  • @fzappa007 .... Tommy Steele was Rocking the UK before Cliff

  • @jaqand It's a tie between "Cave Man Rock " and "Movie It "as to who had the first true R&R record in the UK

But Cliff and the Drifters followed it up with a string of other hits so I go for Cliff'

Was it the Two I's in London (or was it three) that it all started.

Great days, but I think without a doubt it was Cliff and his "Oh Boy" accompanents that put British rock on the map and paved the way for the Beatles.. But Tommie did his bit.

  • @jaqand Thank you for remember Tommy Steele

  • @jaqand And Shakin´ Stevens after! ;-)

  • @jaqand either way, they both came before the beatles. too bad the beatkes took all the rock cred from the uk in the 60s

  • @jaqand I'll say as most that Cliff was the first true UK rocker, Tommy Steele's music is fine and all, but he's not really a rock and roller, more of an R&B guy almost.

  • @fzappa007 that argument could be used like without Elvis we wouldn't have Cliff and so on

  • Lonnie Donigan and Skiffle, Cliff and the Drifters, Oh Boy, Marty Wilde, Tommy Steele etc Without them there would never have been a UK record industry for the Beatles to step into.

I saw Cliff and the D's live in 1959, hard to believe, it was over 50 years ago, it feels just like yesterday. (Before that i saw Johnnie Ray! - and Chris Barbar)

    Anyone else with live memories.

  • Wish I had been a teenager when this first came out. Fantastic forever!

  • Never to be replaced - ever!!

  • @DianeCarter2 Never-ever Dianne A teenager in the 50's, in my 20's and still single in the 60's - I had it all. Hope you alsol

  • cliff is a gay icon

  • @tom6lillie5 what you were watching wasnt Youtube, it was a mirror;)

  • Brilliant Jive Number, by The UK's No.1.....Anglo-Indian.

  • Great rock and roll

  • One of the very best singles to come from the U.K.

  • Rock 'n' Roll is the best music. Better than all this shit today... Rock on Cliff! :)

  • @999widgey Baby I'm gay and trust me it's not a shame.. not at all.. u need to get out more. lol.

  • Comment removed

  • @999widgey One question.. did your mother have any children that lived? Ignorant prick! I hope all of your children are gay and after hearing you speak for a bit, never talk to you again. P.S. what do you care if Cliff Richard is gay? Unless YOU want to fuck him it doesn't affect you.. where are all your girlfriends???????? (rhetorical question, please don't answer..)

  • The music is ace, the women are gorgeous, and the Rat Rods are so cool !

  • Excellento !

  • Classic!

  • what a Great Artist Cliff was but .. Tommy sleele was the first English rock n roller.

  • One of the best rock n roll classics.

  • They say it's gonna die,but honey please lets face it,well just don't know what's gonna replace it.

I'm still waiting 50 years on

  • too right! rock n roll will NEVER die!

  • @rockdoowop5060 It's dead

  • AMAZING i love this song..what a rocker, no one could stay still listening to this!! thanks for the upload

  • People seem to forget how much great rock music came out of Cliff Richard in his early years. Its a pitty he went all namby pamby just like Presley in the 60's!

  • Too true, I love "Cliff & the Drifters" stuff, what happened to Cliff is as tragic as Eddie Cochran getting in the car that fateful night, we have to listen to the music and think what might have been.

  • I think this validly lays claim to be the first proper british Rock Hit. Please note this was before the Shadows & the guitar work is by Ernie Shears: not quite the sparkle that Hank would have brought to it: nevertheless :great

  • You are absolutely right, this was written on a bus "By the kids for the kids", a true classic which seems to get overlooked when the so called experts speak of British music, recorded at Abbey Road as well.
