  • great video! Thanks! I'm on my 3rd and hopefully final rudder for my Cal 22. This is perfect. I made the last 2 out of a 2x10, then 2x12. I am in the process of making another and was going to use another 2x12 (lost the last one in a hurricane). Would you recommend plywood for sure? Also, any other specific types of plywood in case I can't find the Meranti? What was the thickness of the wood? Thanks again!

  • This is a great video. I just broke my rudder today, and it looks like making a new one is my only option. Quick question... Why the carbon stringer? Is it mostly for looks, or does it add structural integrity? (It's ok of it's mostly for looks, I understand... It looks GREAT.)

  • Hello Travis, the rudder was built for a sailboat of 22 feet, is a working boat almost every day since it travels many miles in the south west of Sardinia for transporting materials and people in very secluded areas. The carbon fiber spars are a little more strength in bending (as in surfboards).

However you can not use the carbon stringers ... :)

What boat do you have? And in that area surf?

    Greetings from Sardinia!
