Tappets are fine.Its when you DON'T hear them it's time to worry.I tighten mine up for winter but regularly put around 0.11mm inlet and 0.21 ex for summer.Makes no difference performance wise but does sound like a band of castanets.Most of the noise probably comes from small lateral movement in the tappet pivot.
