  • oh my god! PEOPLE READ THE COMMENTS N DON'T JUST STAY N WAIT GO TO A VET!!!!!!

  • They should have put the poor thing down

  • For everyone asking for advice - GO TO THE DAMN VET!!! Distemper is rarely treatable. You CANNOT fight this alone. And don't forget to get your dog their shots. If you don't go, your dog will most likely DIE. So stop asking and get going.

  • Rats/Mouse can get distemper?

  • Omg this made me cry. It reminded me of my Husky puppy, he had distemper and little by little I watched how this horrendous disease was killing him. We had to put him down because we couldnt watch him suffering like that. I was very little, like 8-9...i was so traumatized after this that I didnt got another dog until I was 18.

RIP Spike, you will always be remember :(

  • I cannot say this enough times: if your dog is ill, go to a qualified vet immediately. If you have not, get your pets vaccinated - spend the money to prevent illness.

Saludos

  • Please tell me a way to heal my puppy?

    Its in trouble now

  • @Simonmichael89 Take your dog to a vet, now. If you think it has distemper, go to a vet. That is the best way I know to deal with the issue of illness in animals. They are trained to deal with these matters.

  • poor dog..

  • Even though this dog is in pain, it is still wagging its tail. What a good dog. Such a sad movie.

  • awww, poor puppy

  • DId the dog in this video die?

My dog looked same as this dog but was 3 years old. He died in the last seizure which was different from the priot three that week. All his limbs went straight like a plank of wood and his lungs froze - his whole body froze like that and he wasnt breathing. His heart was still beating. A minute before the seizure his eyes had been buldging in and out of his head. Its the cruelist death I have ever expreienced. Especiialy that I had just finished his full training

  • Please someone - I just asked my Vet here in Brasil and she said that the dog in this video is just a mixed breed strieet dog. But it cant be. My dog just died last week aged three and looks EXACTLY the same as this dog - every single hair, the paws, the tail EVERYTHING. EXACTLY. It must be a breed? Can anyone explain because I know its an awesome intelligent Breed (my dog worked out how to unlock the car door AND then open it from simply secretly watching me - it was a plan)

  • Please does anyone know what breed of dog that is? My dog looked exactly the same but was 3 years old and died of Distemper.

  • i wish someone will please help me out.. ok my puppy is probly about this dogs size and his head is shaking like he has parkinson he wont eat or drink.. i dont know what to do,, he hasnt had had any shots yet and hes only 4-5 mnths old if anyone cud halp me out wit this problem i wud really appreciate it ..

  • @agl704 Sorry for the delay, I have not checked my comments lately. Take your pet to a vet, ASAP. Proper medical care is the best thing to do.

  • @agl704

Unfortunately i couldn't save a my bhote junior with distemper he passed away few months ago, if any of the dog caught by distemper symptoms are similar to this video shaking left part of the body, running nose and eyes where feces can be seen and its the after effect of the virus and attacks whole system nervous system, internal organs even immune to respond to fight with disease. if disease appears around six months its curable but older dogs cant cope with disease chances are low.

  • @agl704 -please rush to the vet.i hope you doggie is fine now?

  • @agl704 seriously c'mon... People take your damn pets to the vet and get their shots.

If you're too broke or busy to do that, you shouldn't have gotten a pet in the first place. Know if you're even suitable to have the luxury of owning pets before you get one. People working at the animal shelters have to put up with so much shit in America today because if human irresponsibility. (FYI, it's way cheaper to go to a vet beforehand rather than after your pet gets sick)

  • i proper hate seeing dogs suffering i feel dead sorry for them hope this dog is ok now !!!!! <3

  • can dogs get distemper if they are bit by an infected raccoon?

  • @laurajdahl If your dog has been bitten by a racoon, you must consult a vet in your area. They will have a good idea what diseases are common and communicable. A top concern is rabies.

  • poor little puppy....

  • is it zoonotic?

  • if you give the sdog the distimper shot after thay already have the distimper does it help or does it stop the simptoms

  • If you have a dog you suspect has distemper, immediately take it to a proper veternarian. There is no good substitute for proper medical care as soon as possible.

  • poor baby xx

  • Our rescue group had one case of distemper. Luckily our Lola survived but only after $1,200 in meds, 14 days of SubQ IV fluids, 10 days of eating absolutely nothing and 6 months of recovery. She never had seizures (that we saw) nor did she have any blindness or neuro damage occur. She is a very lucky dog and is now in a wonderful adoptive home. At one point the width of her lower back was only the width of the her spinal column. The day she ate her first bite of food was a joyous day for us all.

  • Dog can die at any point in disease, neuro signs can take up to 16 weeks to surface not all dogs show neuro signs, virus is shed at day 3 and has been known to be shed up to 16 weeks postinfection with or with clinical signs. Survival/ time-line is highly dependent on dog and strain of virus. Mortality can exceed 50% (+/-20%) of dogs who show neuro signs plus additional mortality from secondary infections. Good read on this topic Infectious Disease Management in Shelter Animals Wiley-Blackwell

  • After the neurological signs show up how long till recovery? I mean how long before you know the dog survived the virus?

  • Excellent, AND SCARY!

    GET YOUR DOG VACCINATED!

  • at how old does a dog usuallt get its distemper shot?

  • im pretty sure its in a 7 way vaccination for parvo and stuff but youd have to check wit a vet im not positive

  • Anyone heard of Dr. Sears? Dr. Sears does provide a free serum to veterinarians with canine distemper cases. He claims the serum provides a 99% cure rate for dogs with distemper - as long as it's injected within the first two days of the first signs of illness BUT BEFORE THE FIRST SEIZURES.

  • For decades, Dr. Alson Sears' protocol has saved dogs in the early stages of the disease, before it breaches the blood-brain barrier. There has been a new development in the protocol allowing for dogs to be cured even in the advanced stages of the disease.

  • In the later stages, the protocol required is far more invasive. The Newcastle Disease vaccine (normally used to immunize chickens against a virus related to distemper) is injected intravenously and, if the dog has been sick more than six days (when the virus breaches the blood brain barrier), the vaccine is also injected into the cerebrospinal fluid.

  • - Dogs cannot become infected with the newcastle virus but, because it's related to the distemper virus, it prompts an immune response that cures the dog of Canine Distemper Virus and stops the progression of the disease. While the dog is cured of distemper within a couple of days, it may take weeks or months to recover from neurologic disease.

  • I have a dog that has distemper. He is on the video on here "sunshine distemper" He had distemper when he was 3 months. I gave him clavamox and nutrocal (vitamins) and that was it. I kept him and everything around him very clean. Just dont give up. There are no meds made for "distemper". Your pup might look really sick but they will pull through...my heart goes out to all of you with pups that had this horrible virus

  • My dog died yesterday May 18,2009, we had to put our little golden retriever lincoln to sleep. We did everything we could to save him, we had him on tons of medication. We did everything possible, we even considered getting a serum for him, but that wasn't safe. We bought our puppy from a pet store, which was unfortunate that they didn't care for the puppy. They expose these babies to other sick dogs, grab them from puppy mills and they are sick. I wish I would have known. My heart aches!!!!!

  • I'm sorry for this dog,

I'm sorry for all of your dogs, and I'm sorry that you guys have to go through with dealing this pain.

We need to find a cure for this.

  • My dog had distemper when he was like a year old. We did all what we could do then. It was horrible. I cryied the whole day. But, a few days later, as a miracle, he was healthy. Now he's like 4 years old. He can run, move his tail normally, eat like always... My Tommy and I were lucky, and I thank God for that. I wish you can have a second oportunity like that...

  • And this is why you should get your dogs faxeand

  • Poor wee thing :(

  • Poor thing...

  • My dog had a canine distemper he is 2 months and my mother told me that he need to put to sleep but i dont wanna give up him so he is suffering seizures now and the vet is reviving him.,, i wish my dog survive

  • Hey, did your dog survive? My dog has been diagnost with distemper today. She has been having seizures and we might have to put her down Wednesday.

  • my puppy was vaccinated for this desease today :)

  • Good! :-)

  • I had a puppy that died of distemper also. It's a really ugly thing to see and to be honest, I did think about putting her to sleep myself but just didn't know how. :(

  • yeah its sucks my dog had to be put to sleep but we were to late it had a seizure attack......so they really had to put him to sleep

  • My dog is in treatment for this...

  • this video is aweful. in understand if for educational purposes but the poor thing is suffering. i would have just put her down.

  • why is it so skinny? it can't digest? :S

  • Interesting. Poor little puppy..=[

But if hes contagious, he should be walking around, that would give a high chance of another dog getting it. =[

  • my dog died of the deasise yesterday :(

  • INMUNEST

  • My schnauzer is 31/2mo. he was diagnosed a month ago. He has his shots... Well we have been giving him inmune booster shots every 48 hours uo to a week and a half ago, as well as vitamins, antibiotics and eyedrops. He still has runny nose. But all his blood test have been coming back real positive... we though we werw outta real danger up to two days ago and his nervous sistem symptoms are presenting. Breaks my heart. Going to have to make a decision real soon...

  • My female dog has drop weight all of the sudden and is looking veru skinny. She hardly eats and has low energy level. Could that be distemper?

  • If you suspect a problem, take the dog to a qualified vet ASAP.

  • @DiamondSutraPress

The other reply is right, however chances are it could be a kidney issue. That's often times a first indicator of kidney issues.

  • My dog got all her pertinent vaccinations (according to my vet) and then died of distemper a year later. Does anyone know if this is possible?

  • Animals need to be vaccinated annually.

  • I love animals. Especially dogs. I thought about being a veterinarian - but I'm not strong enough to handle cases like this emotionally. I hope that this puppy was given a humane death before suffering much longer.

  • my dog was diagnosed with distemper today.. she had all the immunizations that a puppy is supposed to have. but vet says sometimes they already carry the virus before they get the shots... pray for her, please

  • I'm sorry to hear of your dog's illness; I hope your dog gets better.

  • She made it.. although she never grew to the size that she was supposed to and has a lil twitch left over, she is the happiest dog

  • aww, I recently heard about this disease, how awful, poor dog. So sad.

  • That poor little guy. Soo sad.

  • Poor animal. They should show this on TV, maybe more people would vaccinate. So sad and so easy to prevent. In my area you can even get shots for free at some clinics if you can't pay.

  • I agree!

  • Oh poor pup. I pet sit for a family who has a dog with distemper. They were spending sooo much money to treat her, but they were concerned because she just wasn't acting herself and was very distant. I haven't heard from them in a while, I think they were thinking of having her humanely euthanized.

  • That poor little angel... He's so cheerful and sweet and has no idea that he is dying.

  • Poor lil guy:(

good video ppl need to be AWARE!

  • Uneducated Owner + No Vaccinations = russian roulette for pets .

  • Well educated Owner + utd Vaccinations = Healthy dog

  • poor doggy they are angels

  • I had several puppies get distemper, they were about 2 or 3 weeks old.

  • What exactley is distemper and what dogs are most likely to contract disease?

I know the explanation in the video, but could you please tell me.

  • is that a saluki?

  • The only way to avoid distemper is to vaccinate yearly against it. Once your non-vaccinated dog gets distemper the vet can only use symptomatic treatment to try and help your dog fight the disease. Once neurologic sings make their debut prognosis is poor. Veterinarians can only help when the owner is well educated, and has a general interest in the well being of their pet.

  • I am according with Rubilocita because distemper is high mortal and the only cure is the prevention with the vaccination.

  • Dog's owners pay attention, vets are not wizards, we need your help to help dogs.

  • I already had two dogs die from this. Vet doesn't help much.

  • Vets can't help if owners don't act in time to save pet's life.

  • Why can't they find a cure.

  • The cure is vaccination which has dramatically reduced the incidence of distemper, though the virus is still present on the planet, and hence the need for vaccinations.

  • The first pup looks like a Saluki to me...is it?

  • This video was taken in 1986 and I don't recall what breed of dog was involved.

  • Ah. Well, I'm just going by visuals here, so yeah. Nice video overall, though. Very educational. Thanks for uploading it. :)

  • Thanks

  • poor dogs
