Your ability to pass-on knowledge is a genuine talent & a demonstration that you do care about ALL students by going out-of-your-way to make it easy enough for even beginners to learn from you. Playing slowly and calling-out the chords is HALLMARK of a - r e a l - teacher !
If this is an instructional video, you need to go slower and explain more thoroughly the steps. Especially when you explain the intro and seeing your fingers and what fret they are on is not the easiest thing on a youtube video.
Good job! LIke theauthenticity of using the reverb. Wouldn't the lead part just be thought of as F Sharp Prygian Dominant (B Harmonic Minor). I've always found it wasier to think of it that way. But anyway this is the best instructionalof this song I've come across. Keep it up
Doc, can you give me any (i mean any) tips how to achieve such a tone? Delay, that's for sure, slow modulation speed, low mod depth, time longer than the slapback, but that's all I can guess. And... probably a compressor between the delay pedal and amp? Help.
Hi! Anytime you can practice on an acoustic is time well spent because you build up finger strength doing it. So, Doc votes yes! Peace (and thanks for watching), Doc
I love this song, and you helped me a lot here, thanks. I'm glad to see I'm not the only guy who plays guitar while not wearing pants....we're a dying breed, my man.
Grace Slick said that just before writing that song, she listened to Miles Davis and Gil Evans' "Sketches of Spain" 50 times in a row. Sketches of Spain is a free-form serene melody played over a bolero march. The band gave White Rabbit more rock drive, but the bolero-style march is still in it, and her voice gave the melody an intense flow like you get in Sketches of Spain. The song is just a series of chords, but within them lies an ability to inspire a listener's imagination. A classic.
@saturntown This song was wrote in less than a hour...all instruments ...
Grace also tried to slip powder LSD in to Nixons tea but was stopped before getting in.... her whole band was on the FBI watch list!!
She said she had it in her pocket and planned on scooping it under her long finger nails and with the wave of a hand giving him a high dose!! She said she just wanted to hear him talking nonsense and watch him curl in to a ball and hide in the corner!! Love that!!
Thank you for the kind post. Great to hear that one's lessons help somebody. You should check out Vanderbilly too. Free, and there are quite a number of lessons that can be learned pretty easily. Again, thanks for watching! peace, doc
great lesson! thanks! i know ive been playing guitar for about 6-7 months, and i cant really boss experts around, but for the bass part, try tuning your low E string down to a D and then playing the 4th fret on the D and A strings and then go up a fret and yeah. but thanks
And here i thought the different coloured nails were a carry over from that late seventies time period .......thanks for the lesson, my house sounds really cool with this tune echoing through it.....I have a Line 6 Spider 3 amp with a Epiphone Les Paul Guitar and i can get it to sound a lot like the recording ......thanks again
I experimented with using different colors on different fingers to help illustrate what finger I used. Like... "I have the red finger on the 2nd fret". Gave it up. Thanks for watching! Peace, Doc
Thanks so much, Smelly !

what scale is used in the intro?
as200s 3 years ago
F# phrygian. It has the same notes as D major (D E F# G A B C# D) but you start on the third degree (so the scale is F# G A B C# D E F#.)
