hi i need help my 4ac just blew on me and im a high school student so i dont have money to get a new engine and i wanted to drop in a 4age but i dont want to do the whole gts swap cuz it seems to hard and a little bit out of my range and i happend to have some quad carbuerators and i was wondering what i would need to do for this set up and do you think its easier then the whole gts swap please reply and thanks you
I have a 20v with individual quad throttle bodies on my dads AE86 JDM Kouki Trueno. Watch my videos on my channel. Genuine JDM AE86 in Australia . All "right hand drive, not wrong hand drive.":P
winter = 2.5 turns, depending on how cold ur area would be. ATL was around 25 degrees F. when i ran it
summer = 1.75 - 2.0 turns, depending on how hot ur area would be. Atl was around 90 - 100 degrees F. when i ran it.
make sure to properly drill the main jets to match the CC on ur engine. i advice to get a professional or a achine shop to drill it to specs.. it doesnt cost alot.
@flyingmagneto Great job and good info! I am also installing bike carbs on my 1.6 counter flow engine. I have drilled the main jets carefully to 1.6mm. Air screws are 3 turns out. What other adjustments should I make? I have just started the car but the engine dies soon after I release the starter button.
@flyingmagneto I have sorted that out. The car would start fine now but only with the choke (its cold outside) and it stumbles if i release the choke. While the engine is cold it finds difficult to pick up revs on neutral. I dont know how it drives because this setup is for a 1600cc single seater formula car which is not completed yet. I read a lot that you have to seal air jets to tune it properly. How did you do that? do you have any pictures of the jets requiring sealing?
@M1911A1 i changed the gear on the 4AC dizzy. i took the gear from the 4age dizzy and replaced the gear from the 4ac dizzy. make some simple measurement on where the gear shoud be so it would match the cam gears... then weld it.
unfortunately, this 86(my car) was sold last month... but i dont regret any of the thing i did, making me the 2nd in atlanta to try and successfully run a 4age with bike carbs.
all the comments on being "lean" yeah u guys were right, i had to tune the carbs esp it was winter when i started running on itbs. winter= richer.. summer= leaner if u guys ever try to do this on a 4age, i advice u to invest on a good electric fuel pump.
thanks guys for all your response. i was able to tune the carbs and it was backfiring because of exhaust leak. but now, everything is well tuned and running strong.. im gonna shoot another video of the car with the straight exhaust and ill shoot the engine rev once more for u guys so stay tuned.........
I think a 4A-C dist. rotates the wrong way, meaning as the engine revs your retarding your timing instead of advancing. You could try running static timing to see if most (or all) of the backfire goes away.
yeah u got it right, 4ac dizzy uses vaccum advance timing.
no for the back firing, it is created by the carbs its self.. i tried to tune the carbs and it just dont stop back-firing but it started to grow on me and it made it sound so unique making it sound like it has "miss-firing system" :)
got a question for the car guys, i put a redtop in my ae86 and am still using the bluetop injectors, will it run so lean that it wont be good to drive or will it just be a loss in power
LOVE it!!! Clean! So is the 4A-C dizzy a direct bolt in??? What are you using for a fuel pump?? Fuel pressure regulator?? I have a set of zx1100 carbs (quad 40mm keihin) that I want to put on my 4A-GE!!! Please gimmie the rundown!!
Jeez, stop hating on the guys car! i like it man clean Eight Six! ^__^

@beqa16v more than likely u have a problem with fuel delivery or ignition which types did u use?

I'm in the process of swapping to a R1 carb'd smallport 4AG. You say you used the 4AC dizzy, how did that work? Wouldn't it spin backwards?

It's a shame to hear you sold it!
I've got a similar setup in a KE70, a few weeks away from turning the key.

yamaha carbs bolted to a yamaha head. awesome.

FYI:the stock 4AGE can manage revving about 8600rpms, above is very risky without changing bearings, rods and pistons

What kind of advantage do you get using bike carbs?
richythepianoman 1 year ago
Sounds great! I plan on using R1 Carbs on my 4AC build.

That dizzy rotates the wrong direction internally.
Are you sure its not retarding instead of advancing when revved?
Have you jetted the carbs properly?
Intake popping is tiing or running lean.
Irishtwincam 2 years ago
@Irishtwincam ... it did ran lean but i was able to tinker with the jets to give it more fuel... and it... too much fuel will run it hot.

@flyingmagneto
Did you use a 4AG distributor drive gear on the 4AC dizzy?
And what are you using for spark MSD street fire box or 6A,6AL???
Im doing a 4AG carb setup and looking into the ignition options.

But man that sounds great, good job!

yea it could be that too, would like to see a vid of them running top notch!
canadianae92 2 years ago
It's not running lean, the timing is off, saw it in the other video that they are back firing through carbs, not good.
