  • Superb Deluxe Southern Comforts

  • Toy is really Burnin that old LP up Man whew!!! This was back in the day when Doug actually sounded good singing. Man I love the ABB, Skynyrd, CDB but in My opinion The ORIGINAL MARSHALL TUCKER WAS THE BEST EVER! That's music!!! Toy Caldwell was untouchable!!!

  • This song has one of the best damn guitar solos of all time!! That kid in the beginning looks like he's having the time of his life

  • Three people do not like to Ramble.

  • Brings back great memories. There's a reason this stuff is classic rock. I put them next to anything you might hear today and they will outshine them all! R.I.P. Toy.

  • great band and video..like that Les Paul pickin, sound so sweet, southern style !

  • Funny, Tommy may he RIP looks like LARS from Metallica...

  • What a song, what a band..Toy Caldwell was no less than incredible, the same being said for the entire group. Being a bass player I listen to this and 24 hours at a time off the "Where we all belong" CD...and Tommy Caldwell, along with the drums could take the beat, turn it inside out, and come out the other end right on the money...The Marshall Tucker Band, legendary is a weak term...

  • Toy was really a great guitarist.. Extremely underated. MTB were some straight hippies haha.

  • I was so fortunate to see MTB in little local bars back in the early '70's.. don't think I ever paid more than a $1, which now seems so cheap of me!! I love all their songs but particularly loved their rendition of "I JUST WANNA MAKE LOVE TO YOU".... which I don't think they ever recorded.

  • Play that damn thing Toy! R.I.P. Friend!!!

  • No doubt, ONE of the greatest bands of all time. I have been listening to them for over 35 years now, and they will NEVER get old. Had the pleasure of seeing them in San Antonio in July of '77. Willie Nelson was doing his July 4 thing in Dallas at the time, so hardly anyone was at MTB that night....their loss. We were given a 2 1/2 hour jam that is still a highlight in my life! Thanks for the videos...Good memories

  • IF YOU CANT FEEL THIS U MIGHT WANNA CHECK YOUR PULSE CAUSE U JUST MIGHT BE DEAD!!!

  • Toy is a very underrated guitarist. Very unique style. His finger picking gives him a one of a kind tone/ sound. Love lisening to this guy play.. I wish more people knew how great he was.

  • @josh1988ist Amen to that!!! Seems like the southern rock bands took hits from the grim reaper that just weren't fair. Got to see this band live twice, once as a warm up for Charlie Daniels, and again as a headliner bringing with them for their warm up band Lynard Skynard. The guitar work from all three bands was just unreal! Thanks for speaking up.

  • if u dislike this video like i see 2 people did ur seriously missed up and dont know real southern rock music is

  • This IMO is a totally different song and only related by name to the Robert Johnson Ramblin'

  • the best adhd medicine in the world

  • TC!!!!! This is southern rock jam band at its best!! Thanks for posting

  • Good Version. but the skips kinda kill it.

  • For two albumns they were the best ever

  • This band didn't get the attention it deserved. And Toy does not get enough recognition for being such a great guitarist.

  • Comment removed

  • how the fuck can you finger pick like that??

  • @golluba A lot of it has to do with his hammer on's and bends and the way he plays with his left hand. He can get several notes with just one pick of the thumb.

  • shoulda called it "Jamblin'" song Rocks gr8 post cept for the few skips still awesome!! ty

  • Toy was aptly named 'cause he sure could play.

  • great videos! I love it! Marshall tucker band are coming to watseka theatre watseka illinois on valentines day weekend saturday feb 12, 2011. we just cant wait.

  • they belong in the hall of fame...

  • Toy Caldwelland that thumb! What a guitarist!

  • Tommy Caldwell was the leader, and true heart and soul of the band, after Tommy passed away, Franklin Wilkie came in and he did an awesome job!

  • Great video, just too much of those hippie boys trying to keep rhythm LOL

  • awesome video, but it keeps skipping .

  • The chord are [ C Em Am F D C Am F G C F G] durring solo [ C7 F7 ] After that it modulates up 2 full steps to a D progression

  • Tommy Caldwell, was the heart of the band, you can tell that after he died, their sound really changed. alot of people give Toy credit, but Tommy was the real deal,

  • Anyone know the chords for this awesome song?

  • If it's so friggin' hot that sweat is dripping off of everyone's face then why the flannel ? Never mind......I think I know.

  • it's a doggone flannel fest!!

  • @capmwhatsup Must've been alot of Canadians, eh? har har har

  • Fastest thumb since Wes Montgomery

  • I love this video--MTB is flat out great!! This may be one of the rare times seeing the original band with no hats on!!!

  • jeesus, damn great !

  • face it... the RRHOF is just a big POS. read thru the list of members and half will make say ... WTF??? It's a shame. It could have been something worthwhile.

  • what abba got voted in the rrhof oh what a joke .

M.T.B deserves to be there not abba crap what were they thinkin bunch of wankers just keep it southern amen.

  • Lot of buzz about the R&R hall of fame(?).

I just heard on 12/15/09 their inducting ABBA this year.................great.

MTB did more for Rock & Roll in any one song than ABBA did in it's entire history, in fact, did ABBA even produce anything resembling Rock & Roll?

R&R hall of fame has lost it's direction and definetly needs to change it's name!

    Thanks for posting!!

  • MTB just rocks. I have seen them maybe 5 times over the years best show ever New Years Eve @ The Armidillo in Austin Charlie Daniels the headliner, both bands on stage @ midnight just friggin jammin !!

  • I believe these are 2 totally different songs - certainly the lyrics are different. They do share the same title and Toy Caldwell gets song writing credits on Marshall Tucker's first album. Furthermore, "Original MTB" referred to the original band members, not the song composition. I do not believe I was misled.

  • @tellittothedevil this song was written by Toy Caldwell and original Marshall Tucker song check your facts rogrdodgr.

  • They meant "Original MARSHAL TUCKER BAND - Original MEMBERS 1973........

  • think it means original line up-all of tellits vids are thus titled thats who he wants into H.O.F.

  • @rogrdodgr Well, I sure heard it more from the MTB than Robert Johnson... They obviously did a lot more with it than he did... not to mention, they did it justice, if in fact it is a cover...

  • @rogrdodgr I agree with @tellitotthedevil. The title is the same, but Robert wrote a definite blues number with totally different lyrics. They sound nothing alike musically or lyrically. Toy could have been influenced by Robert, but didn't write like him.

  • @rogrdodgr Robert Johnson did not write this particular song. He did indeed write a slow blues tune by the same name... but, it wasn't this song :-)

  • @rogrdodgr Original band lineup...and song.

  • @rogrdodgr Different song altogether...

  • @rogrdodgr HE MAN... HE MEANT THIS WAS THE ORIGINAL BAND MEMBERS. GET YOUR PANTIES OUT OF A WAD. shut up and watch the video!!

  • @rogrdodgr You sir, have a lot to learn.... If you had ever heard the Robert Johnson tune you're referring to, you wouldn't have made such an asinine comment. This is most definitely an original Marshall Tucker tune - in every sense of the word.

  • @rogrdodgr - I think they meant original Marshall Tucker "line up" as in band members.

  • @rogrdodgr led zepp got most of their music from johnson

  • @thoostorm4 To be sure Jimmy Page ought to change his name to Jimmy Plagiarist, but Page took nothing from Robert Johnson.

    Try Willie Dixon.

  • @rogrdodgr Toy Caldwell wrote this song. There are many songs with the same title, Toy wrote this one.

  • In my own personal opinion, Doug Gray is maybe the best Southern Rock singer that there ever was.

  • No doubt about it. I saw MTB back in the early 90's when Jerry Eubanks was still playing the flute, sax, and keyboards. Unfortunately Toy and Tommy were gone. Doug still had the golden pipes! The bassist was a little too "funky" but, other than that they sounded damn good in the medium sized Toledo bar that I saw them in.

  • Well like Tellittothedevil says nominate MTB for the R&R hall of fame. ofcourse if we all went and did it.

WE CAN MAKE IT HAPPEN FOR"THEM" R.I.P Tommy , Toy and George

  • In 1975 I saw Charlie Daniels Band, open, the MYB and ZZ Top was the headliner. Does not get much better than that. At Philadlephia Spectrum.

  • Saw MTB in Morrisville, N.Y. in 1974. Small college. Holy Sh*t, what a night. I still can't beleive how good they were. All were blown away, especially the guy behind me rolling bones. I had some too.

  • yep, the best concert I ever went to was MTB, Charlie Daniels and The Outlaws togethe rin Knoxville, TN bout 1977......wow!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sboys02 i agree totally! cobain is no where near

the guitar talent is he is! power chords instead of leads!

  • i seen them three times already they are the best

  • Doug's voice is so awesome. Even screamin' it sounds so good. Such style and grace...a master.

  • is this the aragon in chicago?

  • Now, that is some southern rock at it's finest right there.

  • Doug is a great MAN..period. Proud to say he's been a good friend and neighbor for years. I've watched him instill his daughters with old fashion values. He's always grabbed everyones hand when we needed a lift. Music isn't the only thing Doug has left his mark on around Spartanburg. SC put Hootie & the B/Fish in the State Music Hall of Fame before MTB. Everyone please vote for them to be nominated, let Doug know we ole timers still know every word to their songs.

    Thanks To All !!

  • You're kidding? Hootie and the BF before Marshall Tucker in the SC Hall of Fame??? Marshall Tucker is EASILY the most underrated bands of all time. They are such good musicians that they turned me on to jazz. It's a shame they aren't appreciate like they should be. Oh yeah...Doug has such a powerful voice! LOVE me some Marshall Tucker! Much love from North Carolina!

  • It's funny, but Tommy may he RIP looks a lot like Metallicas drummer Lars Ulrich..too funny...

  • I agree.

  • Nobody ssng like Doug Grey, nobody! He's the coolest, too!

  • Great clip - I saw MTB and New Riders of Purple Sage open up for the Grateful Dead in Englishtown NJ in

1977 - epic show - thanks for this clip - great memories of the Caldwells...

  • Paul T still on the small kit there :)

  • what year?

  • AWESOME

  • I get chills watching that man play his giter.

  • I grew up in Greenville, SC and started High school in 1972 when the MTB were beginning to make waves. The Caldwell boys are from Spartanburg, SC; not too far from Greenville. I learned guitar from Rickey Godfrey who is the brother of Ronnie Godfrey ( who was the pianist for MTB in their 2nd incarnation), both blind from birth. I remember the first song Rickey taught me was Eric Clapton's 'Bellbottom blues".

  • Damn if I had a time machine! To experience that live!

  • awesome band, awesome song

  • S$%it F@$#k man when these guys were on their game and all alive, no one could touch them. Toy is and will always be in a league where there aint one one to compete. Kinda like Michael Jordan. If in u know what I mean. RIP

  • Unbelievable that Toy could make all that music with just his thumb.

  • yeppers

  • yeah no one even tries to copy his style-totally unique in rock bands.

  • toy really nailed that. and ofcourse, the song would be nothing without those vocals, or george's rhythym. rip toy and tommy

  • Everybody talks about Toy....and hell yeah....he was SO great, But damn.....listen to George back there comping on rhythm. He makes this song kick ass. If you ain't up tapping feet, jumpin, jivin, shakin a finger in the air and hollerin heidi ho by the end of THIS song....you got something wrong with you. See that group of guys at 0:46? That's what I'm talkin bout. And that's just 46 seconds into the song. They must be from Spartanburg.

  • Followed 'em around for a summer (kinda like the dead) & occasionally got acknowledged as the gang from south bend. To see Grinderswitch open for 'em or see Charlie Daniels break a few bowstrings w/em....Those were some mighty fine shows!! Who does that kinda shit nowadays??? YEEFUCKINHAW!!!

  • Man he sang his ass off on that last break!!

  • I wonder if the kid in the balcony really knew he was experiencing a pivotal moment in music history?

    Hot damn!!!

  • Toyis one of the most underated and least appreciated guitar players of modern rock and roll. When are these guys going to get their just rewards.

Just look at the horseshit that passes for music today. Let me tell you there aint 1 band out of 100 that would hang in that era of great bands..

  • The absolute epitome of "blue-eyed soul"

  • Boy that song sounds great...Thanks for posting it!

  • George McCorkle was a heck of player also...a very good group.

  • Toy was a good friend to me. RIP Toy and Tommy. You are missed.

  • You are so lucky - bless you!!!

  • this band had people off their feet after the very first song, thats what you like to see as a fan, GAHHH! these cats could flat out play!

  • i realize this wasnt the first song obviously, just stating that

  • Is this at the Beacon?

  • Finally Ive got the chance to see the great band play live.

    Great show.

  • Well worth 'the hiccups!' WOW what a song, what an ending! -D-D-DANG!

  • This is the stuff that gives you a stiffy when you listen to it, DAMN!!!!

  • ahh toy is a god. RIP

  • to have seen the guys on stage jamming with the allman brothers!!!!!

  • these guys are one of the ultimate underrated bands of all time. ty so much for the upload

  • greastest band ever!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • f##k tellit, those hicups suck. bitchin' tune

  • I think rock was perfected in the 70's and had nowhere to go but downhill from there, as it certainly has starting about 1980, coincidentally when Tommy Caldwell was killed. Coincidence? I think not.

  • Great band,great song,great guitar.

  • Fan-f-ing-tastic. I can't believe less than26,000 hits for this. Wake up people. It just don't get no better than this!!!!

  • Like any truly great and lasting band, they were a combination of all the right things at the right time in the right place!!!

  • Toy did not use a thumb pick...he had a callus on the right sight of his thumb as hard as a rock...Agreed

  • Absolutely correct. Amazingly versatile, breaking the mold of "country" music. Thanks MTB!

  • Excellent! Thanks for sharing.

  • hope ya enjoy it!

  • Don't forget how versatile these boys were. They could play straight ahead country, blues, rock, western swing, jazz..and every combination of them all. How many bands ever did that?

  • two...them and the allman brothers band

  • was this shot at the Fox in atlanta?

  • toy is so good, seriously..hes amazing, hes got good tone, theres nothing sloppy about his playing, theres no mistakes

  • And to think he doesn't even use a pick. All thumb that makes it all the more amazing !!!!!

  • I think he is using a thumb pick, ya know like some steel players use them.

  • lillepearlsworld

He is absolutelty positively not using any kind of pick. Toy was well known for not using a pick all thumb and nothing else.

It was what made him standout even more.

  • every word true but please dont forget mccorkle's rhythm playing. to me that was just a good and important as toy's standout work

  • This is excellant, XD id like to see doug try it today though

  • Yep

  • Hoo Dawgy haha this is damn good

  • Go,Toy,Go!!!

  • I love southern rock ( a lost genre i must say )and MTB was the best of them all. Skynard, CDB, Molly, etc., etc., they couldn't touch the Tucker Boys for their pure country soul rock. .....and Toy was the undisputed leader, wrote all of the good songs, sang on some of the better ones, and his guitar soared like an eagle ( higher and higher every day ).

  • Toy Should be in the "Top 100 best of all time"...,or win "This award" ,or "That Award"". '...'Who cares about the stuff that the "Regular" people chase after ! 'Toy is Ours ! ! ............'They will "catch on" in time .

  • oh god!!! fantastic!

  • guitar ok

  • I first saw them in '73 at the Capitol Theater in NJ. Nobody knew who the hell they were--their album had only been out a few months. I think they opened for The Eagles. I was blown away. Never been so surprised at a concert before or after. Many people actually left halfway through The Eagles set. Next to MTB, they just sounded lame.

  • Sorry, it wasn't the Eagles, just one of them--Joe Walsh. Back then, he had a couple of hit records and hit the road with his own band. I don't think he was prepared to be blown off the stage by these unknown southern boys, but that is surely what happened. I found a web page where another guy who was there raves about the sensation caused by MTB that night.

  • toy calldwell, what a hero from the south an my guitar hero.him an tommy still keepen it alive an well here on earth an in heaven. thank you for music,,a true blessing.musicr751

  • Don't forget to go to their site to nominate 'em for the R & R Hall of Fame.

  • There has been alot of hot hand guitarist who have put out some hits but IMO very few have thrown down something that is eternal! Toy Caldwell's work is eternally ageless and just as relevent today as the day he laid those riffs down!

  • They laid it all out for ya and left it all on stage every night... This song kicks ass.

  • God Bless ya'll !!We sure miss Tommy,Toy ,George and company. I sure wish someone would put the Balls back into country Rock.

  • man them southern boys can pick, cant they!!

  • Said it before and I'll say it again, Toy Caldwell should be mentioned with names like Clapton,Beck,Page, and Vaughn. He is the most under appreciated guitarist in rock. Toy's riffs still give me goose bumps to this day! Man I wish he was still here! NO One will ever match his tone because he championed the Les Paul playing it with his thumb! What a display of his virtuosity the video is!

  • dont forget steve gaines,or allen collins

  • yes for Collins, not so much for Gaines. Gaines was great, just not in the elite for me.

  • Amen. Don't forget Duane

  • When Rollin' Stone put out a list of the 100 greatest guitarist of all time Toy wasn't mentioned. They must be a little out of touch.

  • Really? That's downright wrong, perhaps even unconstitutional, not to mention impossible. 100? I'd be hard-pressed to come up with 5 or 6. Still, even RS is entitled to their opinion, no matter how fucking ridiculous it might be. Toy had the respect of his peers--the finest guitarists alive. I'm sure he wouldn't give a shit what RS thinks.

  • That is the understatement of the millenium. If memory serves, they had Kurt Cobain(?)of all people,in, or near the top 5. He wasn't fit to carry Toy's guitar case.

  • @sboys02 rAmen to that Brother, and I'm from near Seattle...:)

  • What you said, brother.

  • First time I saw them was in Texas Stadium in 1974 with Joe Walsh and the Allman Brothers. It was greatness. Toy's guitar sounded fantastic outdoors...Can't remember what other years I saw them...

  • sounds like the live cut on the album this was released on

  • Straight to my fav's

  • An 'All Time Favourite Band' and a fantastic guitar lesson for ev'ry style

  • All guitarist should watch this video. NO PICK! They were one of the best bands of their time. Maybe music like this will come back, if younger musicians see performances like this one.

  • Toy was amazing! What a KILLER band! They were so good. They inspired me to play music for a living and I still do. God bless them.

  • Wow...what an excellent video! Thanks so much for posting it. It's interesting to check out the audience - not baseball cap in sight. Will this fad ever end?

  • oh yeah! i love especially debut album.

  • I saw MTB in Nashville about 1973 and this video reminds me of that night - thanks for the flashback

  • I am so glad that someone has all this footage. What a band. A hard working bunch of guys. I felt they never got the attention they deserved. Poor old Toy...I remember him playing in some pretty small holes all the way up in Maine. They were great on stage. Some of the best concerts I ever saw.

    Thank you.

  • wow!!! Toy smokes on that Les Paul--unbelievable tone.

  • wild--toy could smoke most all guitarist!

  • EGAD!!! Dude, Where do you get this stuff from? Up here in N.Y. film on Toy is unheard of ! Thanks for the early Christmas present !!!!

  • A killer video. MTB at its' best. Killer Killer

Thank You for posting it. peckster68
