It sounds like a soprano lyre. just a litle different chape from thouse they use to make in Germany. It's a most wonderfull instrument, I'we played it from time to time the past years.

A lyre, I believe, is actually from Ancient Greece...

The name "lyra" is Greek, but the lyre family existed millennia earlier in the Ancient Middle East under different names (e.g., the Semitic "kinnor", the falsely-so-called "harp" which King David favored).

In Greece the lyra was considered the popular and amateur instrument, the kithara the professional instrument. There were a good many other names and varieties of similar instruments.
