  • @megabyteme64 It's also an urban legend and subsequently not true.

  • @megabyteme64

Not true, thats a myth based on a riddle....

  • Stephen momentarily broke at 09:24.

  • I am Dutch and the fact that Stephen knows that the story of the boy and the dyke is total crap just made me love him even more than I already did.

  • Bill's guitar story is so hilarious...

  • god bless the uploader, well their is no god so i guess a polite thank you shall do :/

  • @megabyteme64 I swear that was a plot point in a CSI episode!?

  • @forgivensign But at the time of this recording Sudan was a whole country, the largest in Africa. As you rightly say, however, now it is Algeria.

  • @megabyteme64 untrue. The water is picked up by probes that a person could never fit into.

  • Rich says that the highest mountain is in Hawaii. CORRECT!

Rich says that it is called Mauna Loa. WRONG!

The mountain is called Mauna Kea. It is 9,7590m high (total) and 902m higher than Everest.

  • @megabyteme64 The immediate change in pressure actually killed him. (I've read the Darwin Awards many times). But I think having 2 NUCLEAR BOMBS dropped on you, is much more unlucky...

  • Comment removed

  • @megabyteme64 That, unfortunately, is an urban legend, also shown by MythBusters to not be plausible.

  • @SpamOfCan QI and MythBusters need to do an episode together.

  • @megabyteme64 I think that's an urban legend, mate.

  • @manulito2 It is. Verified an urban legend by 'The Darwin Awards' team from the tale heard of a man in California who it was claimed had that happen to him. Sadly (though not for him), it's a made up story.

  • sudan isn't the biggest country anymore is it? since the seperation of south sudan

  • Canadia?

  • That guy's Dutch accent is ridiculously accurate.

  • Are the videos from NickFromFulham back up? he has like every episode!

  • i almost chocked on my food when Alan randomly inserts the fact that he used to collect stamps for about six months when he was eleven. :D

  • Three of my favourites!

  • thank you so much for uploading these videos - i'm abroad and feeling quite alone - being able to watch this is very consoling :)

  • 08:00 Assuming they don't miss...

  • yay, one without that sandi woman who looks like clive anderson

  • I'm suprised how much holland is mentioned in QI, Apparently we're not that lame as I thought!

  • @TheHeroInDisguise Well you are richer than all of sub-saharan africa...

  • @SerPinkKnight Well, yeah, I know, but still.. Stephen actually speaks dutch, that's so awesome, I'm just suprised people even care about this little shithole. :P

  • Rob Brydon looks like the result of Hugh Grant mating w/Mitt Romney

    &

Alan Davies is the Karl Pilkington of QI

  • QI. Always a joy to watch!

  • what? did any of them study philately?? i dun understand, why was that awkward?

  • @TheMonkiAss Rob was making a pun on the phrase 'flattery will get you nowhere'. Even though they're often quite clever, puns often elicit a groan rather than a laugh and are treated as bad jokes- hence the mock awkwardness, and the joke about going back in time and retelling the story without the pun. I just love the slight grin on Rob's face as he's telling it, he's obviously so pleased with himself

  • @megabyteme64 that happend a couple a times, also in america by the california county.

  • Aww, Myrtle Beach isn't THAT redneck.

  • "If you put it on in England, you can last... a lifetime" LMAO

  • funny fact... im from brisbane australia... and a pidgeon took down our trains for half a day

    what a comparison

  • completely unrelated to the current comment conversation... i love how they add rich hall as an apparent regular to Qi... he doesn't get involved much because of no doubt.. he's somewhat unattached to the british humour

but the story gem's that he comes up with is always guaranteed when he decides to pipe in

  • the trains were unaffected by the atom bomb......were they engineered by Rockstar Games using the same programming as in the GTA games?? lol

  • i hope there'll be a 27th season of QI, love to see what letter they use for it lol

  • @Georgeous129 maybe they will do greek letters: QI Episode Lambda QI episode Omega etc

  • @megabyteme64

WOW - That is awesomely unlucky, but hey...what a way to go. Like a fireman drowning in his own hose after being taken away by...fuck it, nothing is unluckier than a burning scuba diver.

  • Bill is dressed like as Manny would!

  • Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the QI YouTube audience. An audience who can conduct a discussion with polite argument, rather than resorting to simple insults that you KNOW they wouldn't dare say to someone's face.

Thank you for restoring my faith in the decency and maturity of the internet.

    I'm sure Stephen would approve.

  • @TheDarklord0211 Indoor voices mein frau

  • @8malevolent8 *polite clap* yes, well said.

  • @8malevolent8

Completely. I'm a Christian, but would rather argue with Steven Fry than with an idiot athiest because I feel he would have respect for me as a person.

  • @8malevolent8 Fuck off.

  • The reason humans often go around in circles when blindfolded is because of the Coriolis effect.

  • Just as a point of interest. The Southern Cross isn't the southern celestial point in the southern hemisphere. There isn't really a very bright star at the southern celestial point like Polaris so you have to do some star hopping to find due south.

  • i think Rich Hall would be funnier but the brits have lightnening fast answers/jokes; also they tend to talk alot faster than those of us who are americans.

  • @HBCjunke

As a Englishman I didn't really like Rich Hall at first but I've grown to find him very funny and the things he does say are hilarious he doesn't make half arsed comments.

Very strange since I don't normally enjoy the American style of humour, I guess his time in England has changed his viewpoint on the world. :]

  • @EshnehGaming proberbly the funniest american standup comic alive is doug stanhope, you should check some of his shit out he's funny as fuck (youtube has a shit load of his act).

  • Ah, the laxness of our custom officials. Makes me proud to be Dutch.

  • So if you commit a crime at the JFK memorial in Runnymede you are subject to US law, not UK law - might be a good place to do a spot of murdering or robbing.

The FBI probably wouldn't be very interested.

  • @belisariusorb I had the same thought, but about smoking weed

  • Did anyone see the brilliantly ironic story that appeared a few weeks after the controversy of this episode? A school in Japan staged a fun-day or cosplay day or some such in which the student body turned up en-mass dressed as the SS (which a study of Japanese popular culture will show is surprisingly common). I believe the buildings were decorated in the 3rd Reich style as well. How's that for insensitivity?

  • Anyone else TERRIFIED by Rob Brydon's fiendishly small hands?!

  • @EliasHoweNash THANK YOU I've been thinking that for years.

  • Why is alan pulling a weird face at around 10:00 when bill is talking about Bhutan?

  • Well, I'm moving to the Vatican.

  • rich hall didn't talk much

  • There are still trains that dump (pun not intended but handy nonetheless) their human waste outside on the track?!?!?!

  • what's Bills buzzer? :D

  • I LOVE KAT FROM HALO REACH!

  • Algeria will become the largest country in Africa if the South Sudan independence thing goes ahead. Which I hope it does.

  • Why everyone got so damn angry at the Stamps joke??

I know Bryndon comes off often as a stuck up arrogant ass, but still poor him :(

  • @SuperGoldenPony Because the joke is at least 50 years old. This programme aims towards a more original input.

  • @SuperGoldenPony

Watch the Hocus-Pocus episode of this season, and you'll understand why it's better to tell bad jokes.

Frankly, I thought it was a great one - I don't get how it could possibly come across as stuck up or arrogant.

  • They missed a trick not sending Alan anywhere. They could have made him spend a week in Hounslow or at Heathrow Airport or something.

  • Comment removed

  • "Ride 'em, Goulash!"

  • I have to agree that Rich and Alan both seemed a little disinterested in this one - though I do still love this show beyond reason. I think Rob saved it - absolute gold - and, as ever, the extraordinary Sir Stephen.

  • Myrtle beach, South Carolina is only bad on Bike week. which the town has banned.

  • Im actually surprised at people reactions in the comments below, really didn't think that people could take this show the wrong way :S Maybe it's a cultural difference thing I guess.

  • i love sthen frys xxxxxxxx i want to be his bosie xxx robert james selby xxxxxx

  • What sort of offences? They've been raping boys under 12.

  • We probably walk in circles for the same reason we're left or right handed.

  • I love Rich Hall's snarky comments. They always make me laugh!

  • Quite interesting: friday 13th oktober 1307 is the date that the knights templar were rounded up and put on trial wich ended in death. some people think that's why we still think it's bad luck

  • I thought the Hawaiians discovered Hawaii.

  • I cant see what the fuss is about regarding the unluckiest/ luckiest man. At no point are any insulting comments made. In my opinion, the fact that he is considered worthy enough to feature on this show could be seen as a tribute to him and brought his story to the attention of millions of people.

  • Thanks to cywyhot for making a supporting point, but also for showing another fact about British comedy compared to American (which could perhaps be seen as the dominant one to non-English speakers and thus taken as the accepted style), in that we're merciless in our humour: UK culture already has many jokes about Iraq and Afghanistan (see Rhod Gilbert's sketches about going to the latter war-zone). When a Brit doesn't joke you know the situation's serious. It's why we're awkward at funerals.

  • From WebMD--

“SPF is not a consumer-friendly number,” says Florida dermatologist and American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) spokesman James M. Spencer, MD. “It is logical for someone to think that an SPF of 30 is twice as good as an SPF of 15, and so on, but that is not how it works.”

According to Spencer, an SPF 15 product blocks about 94% of UVB rays, an SPF 30 product blocks 97% of UVB rays, and an SPF 45 product blocks about 98% of rays.

(SPF 100 MIGHT lead to less skin damage.)

  • Apologies for the repetition on my previous two comments, but the system seemed to be acting up and I thought I'd lost the first one.

Continuing on the subject, QI is a British show for a British audience, and if you watch the other episodes you will see how acceptable it is to mock, satirise and make fun of subjects which would never be remarked upon in other countries.

PS: given that the BBC has apoligised for this one comment, will Japan reciprocate and apologise for Unit 731?

  • @8malevolent8: Nice summary... non-British people should accept the show for what it is and not expect it to reflect the attitudes of their native culture. Why should it?

And good call about Unit 731.... not many people know about it, perhaps because its senior officers traded their research with the septics for immunity from prosecution as war criminals. Hmm.

  • Let's take this slowly shall we...? Humour is an intrinsic part of British life to the extent that we are uncomfortable in situations where we can't make a joke. We have very few areas where a joke is unacceptable: it might be in bad taste, but that's not the same thing (Jokes about the London Underground bombings were circulating almost immediately). We know when something is unacceptable, and most would say that something that had happened over fifty years ago is hardly an open wound.

  • Okay, let's take this slowly... In Britain humour is an intrinsic part of life, and when it comes to jokes there are almost no sacred cows or areas where a joke can't be made. it's as natural to us as breathing, and we know where to draw the line. When the bombs blew up on the London Underground people were making jokes the next day. Making jokes about something that happened over fifty years ago would seem a reasonable amount of time.

  • This was in the newspaper when QI insulted the man

  • @dim432 They didnt

  • Glad to know BBC apologizing officially to him and Japan.

  • rich hall, underwhelming as always.

  • @ohohnoy Rich Hall is hilarious on this show, and probably the only American who could keep up with any of them

  • Comment removed

  • i think that japan pretending that their wholesale sadism, rape, murder and torture never happened is far more insulting than these mild jokes but there we are

  • Oh dear, the insults are coming out. Let's keep it in the spirit of QI rather than descending to the usual YouTube level of tedious swapping of swear-words: keep the insults impersonal, informative and funny.

Incidentally,it is a British trait to find humour in any situation- in fact it's almost obligatory. If there's a situation in which a Brit doesn't make a joke, you know it's serious.

  • @8malevolent8

    " If there's a situation in which a Brit doesn't make a joke, you know it's serious"

    Perfect analysis

  • @8malevolent8

"Is everything a joke to you?"

    "Only the things that matter."

That last line was coincidentally said by a character played by Stephen Fry.

    :)

  • @cloud4an That being Stephen's character in V for Vendetta!

    :)

  • Why don't you Japanese people stop complaining like babies?

    It's only harmless humour.

By the way, Yamaguchi should be called 'stupidest man in the world', not 'unluckiest'.

"Er, a bomb's landed on Hiroshima, let's go to Nagasaki....doh!"

What are you Japanese authorities gonna do anyway?

Murder Alan & bury his body in sand?

Force Stephen-sensei to build railways in Thailand?

  • @BoyleFrank

y r u generalizing japanese people? dick head, racist. "you___ people" fuk off! btw i m not japanese.

  • @BoyleFrank

u think japanese people here represent japan? wow, dick head!!

  • Can anyone explain what's so dreadful about Rob's comment on philately?

I mean, I must be missing something...

  • @Y00p It's a play on 'Flattery will get you nowhere'.

  • @NinthBeaconOfJoy Thanks! I knew there was something I didn't get... :)

  • Darn you, Rich, for underrepresenting my state. There's so much to it that's really quite interesting! (Did you know Hawaii is the most isolated place on earth that's inhabited?) I was really hoping Alan was the one who went to Hawaii :(

  • Sudan; largest country in Africa. About to get smaller. 10 pts to anyone who knows what im talking about.

  • @belliebum12 south sudan is about to get independance i believe i heard

  • それは単なる冗談だ、あなたまで愚かな日本の人々を落ち着かせる。

  • これこそ「人間失格」ってやつだよ。

  • To all Japanese viewers: before knee-jerk criticism, please WATCH THE EPISODE. You will find that NO ADVERSE COMMENTS are made towards the individual concerned AFTER THEY REALISE THE ANSWER. The silence of the audience and the panel indicates their respect for the subject. The only comments are satirical ones about the state of current British railways. If you are going to criticise, kindly WATCH THE BLOODY THING FIRST.

  • @8malevolent8

Too late, good sir. The demand from the Japanese Embassy for an apology just proves their stupidity and xenophobia (and delusion, as evidence points in their outlook on their war crimes).

There's a QI clip that has the panelists poking fun at the Chinese method of inventing the teacup that's more blatantly insulting so either the Japan defenders are:

    A) The aforementioned asswipes (not all Japanese, mind you)

    B) Worthless weeaboo shit that are just as deluded

  • @USSCannonFodder Get over your self-righteousness and have a good wank.

  • イギリス人を軽蔑します

  • @naui271979

    なんで?どちらでもないは山口さんに悪口しなかった。エピソードを見ましたか?

  • 最低だ!!!!!

  • British people are quite unfortunate to have BBC and those comedians making fun of Mr. Yamaguchi, who atomic bombed 2 times in Hiroshima and Nagasaki in a life time, and recently died.

Japanese embassy filed complaint to BBC and they apologized, but this kind of things should never happen again.

  • @RedZebra77 They didn't make fun of him. Why don't you actually watch the episode?

  • @yosshi214uk There is a principle in English-culture humor that pain plus time equals comedy. Not enough time has gone by to joke about 911, Iraq or Afghanistan. And one has to consider that this was a British tv show written for the British and their point of view. I'm American so it isn't always my point of view but I understand that because I am aware I'm watching something that was not created for me and may offend me so I only care about factual problems.

  • Yey. Finland is mentioned again :D

  • lol, i lived in Bhutan for 3 years, fun to see a bit about it on tv!

  • @Thomas90FS Is all of what he said true? Sounds like an awesome place.

  • oh man, Bill's story about Holland was amazing

  • I don't mean to be negative but it's quite bad that it took them that long to answer that Yamaguchi is a Japanese name

  • @LMW87MMA I thought so too!

  • @LMW87MMA I think they were trying to think of countries that start with H for that one.

  • @shrimpythebodyguard2 Nah, I just think east Asian countries aren't that differentiated in most "Western" people's minds. for example, I'm a fanatic for the Ricky Gervais/Stephen Merchant/Karl Pilkington XFM shows, and I notice that China and Japan are essentially interchangeable in even Ricky and Stephen's minds. I'm not bashing anyone for it, just think it should be different... not that I'm that great at it; if you gave me a blank map I couldn't name half of the countries in Africa. but Japan

  • @LMW87MMA yes, all western minds work this way, a fine observation.

  • @LMW87MMA Your right about them being interchangeable in western minds but the theme here is things beginning with H. They thought the country had to begin with H, so they were confused. That's why Alan says "Well I would have said Japan..." in that tone.

  • @LMW87MMA Oh dear, if you really think that these people can't differentiate between Chinese and Japanese or that they didn't recognise Yamaguchi as a Japanese name then I'm afraid it's you who's missing the point. How on earth did you come to be watching this programme in the first place?

  • @shrimpythebodyguard2 (continued from below) is the third largest economy in the world, so I think it's a good start in terms of geographical awareness

  • @LMW87MMA they were joking, dumbass.

  • "when they go to the toilets they clean them"... genius, I don't think that joke got recognized enough

  • Thanks for all the uploads, I do get the BBC here but they broadcast QI too late for my time zone to stay up. I'm really glad I can see them on YouTube.

Also, this is one of my favourite line-ups!

  • And for the holidays, the perfect panel. QI gave me a great holiday season :)

  • I also want to know why Alan was in detention, or what they meant by that.

Also, whoever disliked this needs to...I don't know, conform to my tastes in future.

  • Myrtle beach is not the red neck capital. It's just a massive tourist trap.

  • Vulva / Volvo joke was great.

  • Did...did he say Canadia?

  • Why was Alan in detention?

  • @waynesayonara thanks for all your hard work. Any chance of some HD episodes in the future?

  • Merry Christmas :)

  • Has anyone uploaded the Eddie Izzard documentary mentioned in the closing credits?? I can't find it...

  • @weavehole Try looking for it at thebox.bz, torrent tracker for UK TV.

  • Rob Brydon was brilliant in this episode. Thanks for the upload

  • "I remember something about penises." I'm sure you do, Stephen.

  • are bills and alans buzzers songs?

  • Oh man I love Bill Bailey.

  • Comment removed

  • What does Bill say at 20:26? Can't make it out.

  • @MrsGamgee977

  • @MrsGamgee977 "Stephen knocked that up in an afternoon."

  • how much is 66 feet in meters??

  • @Missusdane 'Bout twenty :)

  • @Missusdane

    Five pound fifty

  • @mrcreative13: It is, isn't it? Insane... Where did he pick it up?

  • Many thanks from Toronto!

  • Bill Bailey does an AMAZING dutch accent! It really is flawless!

  • Thank you so much.

  • Thank you from Mumbai !! :)

  • 7 Views!! :O

  • Thanks for all the QI uploads, you've provided so many hours of quality entertainment. :D
