i've just read that lyda roberti died 4 years after this...heart attack whilst bending to tie her shoelaces...i can hardly believe it...she looks so young and full of life here...horrible!
Joe Penner was caricatured in several Warner Bros. cartoons from the 30s. The character Egghead is based on Penner. Watch the cartoon "Cinderella Meets Fella" directed by Tex Avery, and note the way Egghead acts and talks. It's totally based off Penner!
A little bit of Joe Penner is a LOT! But one can never get too much of Lyda Roberti! If you liked this, don't miss 'perfectjazz78's' other entry from this same film...Take A Number from One to Ten - Lyda really cooks as a cheerleader. THANK YOU "PERFECTJAZZ78" - Paramount Musicals were in a class of their own. Totally demented, plus great music and entertainment.
I can tell I would've loved joe penner when I was a kid. I would've been crazy about the catch phrases, probably spouting them off all over the playground....'n things 'n stuff.
the officious guy in the cap and gown is played by Franklin Pangborn who spent his whole career playing officious, effeminate characters.

I taped this film off cable TV about 15 years ago. It was on a sports channel of all things (!!!!) because it involved football!
Penner is a genius!
Roberti is that ultra rare combination of ultra sexy and funny w/o losing her sexuality.

@russderry I'm impressed! You're only the second person I've ever encountered who is old enough to actually remember Penner from back in the day!

I thought this was supposed to be a "lost" film. Glad to see a potion of it-
