  • lol wow, and all I charged a guy for an antivirus install and a cache clean was lunch, these people are damn crooks.

  • If you don't know how to fix something then you have to pay to get it fixed. Same thing happens to cars. I agree there is no excuse for not seeing a hard drive unplugged.

  • I built my computer myself, so I don't have to worry about bullshitters like these.

  • Lol it was just the video quality, wow hahaha, the last bloke didn't know anything, if a person wants their pc fixed, just fix it right so they can walk away happy and go back to their pc until they are ready to upgrade!

  • is it lagging?

  • crazy

  • I work at Geek Squad City, repairing HP laptops all day everyday. I just want to say, we are required to diagnose things accurately. Depending on your warranty, you don't even HAVE to pay. That's why Best Buy has Black Tie Protection. Also, we don't have set prices for Cash on Delivery repairs. You place a deposit of 87 dollars or something and depending on the model of your laptop, we order parts, and an estimate is drawn up. Good thing is, you can approve it or decline it, getting money back

  • very cool video Geeks in Minutes Computer Repair Services

  • very cool video Geeks in Minutes

  • fuck computer repair shops.. They replaced my fast parts to old shitty ones & kept my good RAM n sht stupid scamers

  • i bet they used a spy key chain camera or spy pen

  • @6Cozmik9 lol, i have one of those

  • this is why im opening up a computer business people charge to much its cazy i don't know how they can just rip people off like that

  • I dont have sound coming from my speakers. I dont know why. I just recently rebooted my computer. Can someone help? I think I need to install an audio driver but I dont know for sure. Thanks

  • The title should changed to: "I just realized there are dishonest people on this planet!!!" I'm just saying, cuz I think this reporter was born yesterday. If you don't understand something and expect someone else to do it for you get ready to "PAY" and get "RIP OFF". cuz life ain't cheap. And if you didn't learn anything, and the next time occur the same problem you DESERVE to be RIP OFF.

  • geek squad are completely rip offs! they over charge and keep things off your cpu for them selves. never go to best buy!!

  • Geek squad people are idiots

  • i love this :)

Like in the video there are companies that will charge you a bunch of money to do something so simple. Like us The Computer Dr.s we aren't crooks like the last store that was charging $275 for on cable to be put back.

We the Computer Dr.s look for common solutions because no one likes for there time to be wasted so the sooner we are done the sooner you get your computer back running and everyone is happy.

So basically im trying to say that you can count on us the Comuter Dr.s

  • Your video is great. Thank you for your sharing.

  • lol nice busted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Also all these videos I have watched about computer rip off the reporters are always ignorant when it comes to computers and you can simply tell by the way they talk about the subject. But don't get me wrong this does not mean that I agree with what these techs did they are crooks and liars and I would never dos something like to my customers.

  • @diegolara Some of those prices are fairly outrageous in scale, but I agree that we should definitely still get paid for our time. For example, the guy charging $275 who missed a disconnected IDE cable and said the motherboard was "half bad", is kind of insane. I recognize that's capitalism, but that's just freakin' being greedy and not giving a fair price.

  • @mistoroboto Yeah don't get me wrong.. what that guy did charging $275 is just wrong and he straight up lied and I do not support that type of business at all. I feel horrible to think some customers are getting there money stolen by computer repair crooks like this guy in the video.

  • If the tech wasn't out there wasting his time in a simple 10 second repair he would have been in another location doing a bigger job that would have made him even more money. Those of you who say you don't charge for simple repairs you must be some 15 year old kid fixing computers to pay for your video games and not to pay your car and house rent and bills. I always try to be fair with my customers and give them a discount for easy fixes but there has to also be a limit.

  • Also if someone has a business computer that they depend on in order to do business and there computer is down and the problem turns out to be simple.. well the fact that you got them back up and running so that they can continue to make money that alone is a reason to pay the tech what he deserves because time is money and just like the person depends on his or her computer to do there business the techs time is also worth something since that's how he makes a living.

  • @diegolara well yes i am a 17 year wit h a couple of friends that know how to fix computers but that doesn't mean we fix computers to buy games were actually doing this b/c this is the only way we will get money so we can go to college and get a degree that lets me and my friends for a better salary.

But really you would charge to plug in a cable that only took about 20 seconds to find and 1 second to plug in.

Plus yeah we do need money for the rent as well.

But yeah i kinda do agree with you.

  • I see some people make comments like "for small repairs I don't charge anything" .. do you not realize that some people do this for a living? They have bills to pay and it cost money specially when doing on-site support. Can you ever image a car mechanic saying its free because the repair was easy. People pay you for your knowledge not always for what you do.... Continued

  • I have no problem with companies who are honest but have either a minimum charge for computer repairs, or a flat rate for labor. Our company charges a flat rate of $80 CDN for computer repairs plus parts. However, we have a minimum shop charge of $30 which in a case like this one would likely be all we charge. Best Buy "geeks" are not the best techs, and the other stores like the last one were obviously rip-off artists.

  • I'm a computer technician and I guarantee I would catch that 99 out of 100 times within 10 minutes and charge $20 for it. Its sad that these people who charge so much more (or lie the problem is bigger than it really is) cannot accurately fix such an easy problem. Literally can be fixed in 15 seconds once you see it.

  • @gxcad It takes you 15 seconds to push in a 40 pin connector?

  • @pearlmax LOL...are you seriously criticizing me because I said this fix can be done in 15 seconds? What are you trying to accomplish by saying that to me? Shall we get into a war of words about how you can do it in 3 seconds while it takes me 15?

  • geeksquad charge 50$ to set up your Facebook account!!

    HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!!!!!.

AND 50$ to setup an email account and! 50$! to install you software!

and 50$ to tune up your pc!! there is a free Software that does that for you easy to use it is called ccleaner.

  • I prefer Ask My Computer Guy

  • HO LY CRAP

Ok honestly, im 14 yrs old, and Ive fixed computers with worse problems than that. If that's all these Geek Squad people have to do, mabey I should get in on that. Lol you should see my computer... it's a mix of PC and MAC, and I programmed, put together, and made programs in C++ that can run on it....

    Some people are dumbasses.

  • I've fixed countless computers as a hobby and I have an AS degree in Computer Information Systems. I think that it is sad that this happens, and I know that it does, but the same thing can happen in a lot of business. I can and have taken a computer down to just the case sitting there and all the parts next to it, but I don't know anything about auto-repair beyond simple maintenance. You just need a friend that has the skills that you lack. :P

  • I agree that there are 11 year olds that could of fixed it.

  • I think that Best Buy diagnosis is interesting.

If the power supply was bad the machine shouldn't have powered up at all.

It doesn't really surprise me though, in my experiences with Best Buy staff they usually demonstrate nearly complete ignorance of the products they sell.

    "Where are your computers?"

    "Um. That's not my department."

"Ok, but WHERE are they AT in the STORE?"

"Uh. What were you looking for?"

Even the titles of DVDs seem to confuse them and they're printed right on the box!

  • why are reporters who have no knowledge of the subject investigating it?

Computer repair is basically the same as car repair.

You can trust as many auto repair places as you can trust computer repair places. Major chains are usually trustworthy but have a high base charge.

Training and competence of actual staff both between and within chains can vary greatly. Individuals and small establishments you have to take your chances or go on reputation and recommendation.

  • lol when i was 11 i could have fixed that

  • I thought about applying because i could have spotted that first glance i mean that was really simple! Exarian I would be a honest one too, I cant believe they would charge that much for such a simple fix!

  • geez. I just applied to geek squad. hopefully I can be an honest one.

  • Big time fail, I used to work for them but was fired for cursing after I implied to the GM that no one there is trained as the geek squad web site says they should be.

  • Fail geek squad

you disconnected the brains from the computer?

    isn't it memory from brains?

  • we just fix that pc in 15 dollars, but for minor problems, its free of charge

  • The sad part is you couldn't even trust the small business guy. I expected the Best Buy, and Circuit City prices, but thought the shop owner would have done it for $20 bucks.

  • 275 for that? nooooooooooooooo

  • This tube is usefulness.

  • wow it messy up aww how sad is for that not me nothing wrong so far:)

  • i been getting heck of a lot of blue screen lately for some reason its happening in sleep mode when the screen shuts off can you tell me what it is if its a virus or something i got webroot Microsoft E norton 360 and stop zilla.and there not picking anything up I also have around 382 of Ram right now on mem turbo

  • Please i would have done this for free.

  • "This afternoon....a computer alert.....aand uuuuh crash"

hahah "I"ll just throw out some words that sound technical and hope that people don't realize I have NO idea what i'm talking about..." (thinking that in his head)

  • this helped me a lot thanks

  • @troy2000me

Well I suspect this is the deal, the western digital drives need to have the jumper OFF when its a master without a slave present, which is the opposite of most other hard drive brands. On some mainboards with not work if you have the jumper with no slave, others it will when using a wd drive. Now he might have removed the jumper off master (which would be correct), or put it on master (which would be incorrect for a stand alone wd drive but correct for most any other brand).

  • I would know that!

  • lol even people who dont know shit about computers can tel that the harddrive is missing a cable and it's easy to spot the unplugged cable

they just want you to buy new hardware from them

  • I got stung once. Had my uni work on my external drive. It 'broke' and they charged me £70 to fix it. They said the case had broke. So they were right, but I searched the net and the new case they put on cost £12 off ebuyer! And it had 3 star ratings and they even lied that i'd lost all my data.

So when this case did break after 6 months I tested the drive in my main pc and it worked so I brought a fairly nice new case to use it as external for £15.

    & now I backup too :)

  • cpu

  • I bet the one who fixed it for nothing knew

something was up. Those IDE connectors

don't just fall out of socket and come

disconnected like that all by themselves.

  • I had something wierd happen with my ide cable before, appaently it was plugged into here it wasnt spose to be and the computer worked fine for 4 months, I opened the case to check the name of graphics card, it came unplugged, I plugged it where I swear it was, yet when I turned on comp it destroyed windows and I lost all stuff on my computer. Corruptted windows / my harddrive that was nice of it wasn't it.

  • @GenerationXT

I doubt that they suspected anything, true they normally do not fall off, but can be knocked loose over time due to people going into the other case to work on other things in the case. Sometimes they can be partially plugged in and work intermittently.

I too have charged little or nothing for some repairs, the customer will appreciate your honesty and fairness and they will return, and word of mouth will get you many new customers and you will be repaid many times over.

  • This is what it says in GeekSquad site:

"Do you have a broken CPU or cracked LCD? Is a drive as loud as a lawn mower? If so, Geek Squad® in-store repair offers the perfect solution for you, at a reasonable price". LOL

  • This is bullshit why the fuck would they charge 60$ for plugging in a IDE cable?

  • I am writing a comment here, though writing a YouTube comment is, in truth, utterly nonsensical.

This is my comment, and it's a waste of time.

P.S. I rated the video (five stars) and gave everyone a thumb up. See how this will affect your lives.

  • @BrianaBangz love it thumbs up to you

  • seriously the computer is making me real mad and I'm screwed if I don't get a answer in less than a hour

  • help guys my computer worrks it just won't let me go on websites it says that the computer can't find server and It is pissing me off help

  • @silverflashxx infected hosts file

  • As a geeksquad agent, I can tell you, not only this is crazy, but you have no idea how much times we charge people for more services that they dont need, saying them they have virus or that hard drive is dead, etc. I don't have the choice to do that or not, I had big problems with my boss because I was honest with customers and they asked me to charge them "a re-installation (189$)" even if there is no reason to do this.

  • @ ambucias:

I also work in the IT field. I have no love for the Geek Squad, but I feel compelled to express my sympathies. It must be hard to be an honest and knowledgeable tech and have to push these shoddy business practices on customers who don't know better.

Based on your comment, my suspicions and fears of the Geek Squad have been confirmed. No offense to you, but I always have recommended against the Geek Squad, and you've provided me with another legitimate reason for doing so.

  • Don't trust ambucias. There is no "re-installation" GS service that costs $189. I've never witnesses anyone rip someone off, but I guess there are always bad apples. Service work in a retail environment is incredibly difficult. Its true that you have management who are worried about their bonus so they will push you to sell more. I can be elbows deep in a computer and will be told to stop working on it and go help the line at the front lanes or to go sell computers. We are treated like garbage.

  • sorry to hear that bro. maybe if you charged a higher rate, people would respect you more.

  • You need to go solo man! Fuck the squad!! I know guys that do solo work and make 6 figure income.. You sound like to are too honest for these assholes..

  • @ambucias At my precinct, from what I've seen thus far, we are honest with the customers. I guess it depends on your boss. Yes we're expensive, but atleast we're honest.

  • If your computer breaks, first call your manufacture ... duh! Mine caught on fire and I called, so they sent me a new one :).

  • best video ever

  • * unpluged cable *

-your power supply is fucked ...

    -you motherboard is fucked ...

-there is a short circuit you need another PC...

    Nice one !

  • Even the tech support people at my school play games like this. Its not cool and I'm tempted to call it downright evil. I mean, in this civilized world we've got to rely on SOMEONE for some service some time in our lives why give people a hard time when they are searching for help and you can easily provide it? Be a good guy not an insidious cretin. If you pull this crap you deserve no sympathy when karma comes a'knockin.

  • Don't trust Indians with computers! Enough said.

  • @MrCreativeNow lol is'nt it a shame that so many of them are "tech support" working for places like aol.

  • *67 time anyone? lets have some fun.

  • lol all that just to push in a cable xD

  • this video is the best

  • So learn to do it yourself or you will get ass raped.

  • :-O wow. all I can say is... wow.

Way to go Torrance Computer !!

Boo to that guy Ben of BMI Computers Inc. in West Hollywood. I guess he's gonna lose alot of business from his shoddiness! :-p

I wish someone would do that where I live, and weed out all the bad apples here!

  • When I worked as a tech for HP I saw this all the time. I did warranty repairs and I have been to IT departments who said they had a bad video card because the screen was blank (it was spyware preventing the machine from booting, fixed it in 10 minutes) and one IT department changed a motherboard 3 TIMES because of No Post/No Video, when I got there I noticed there was NO PROCESSOR INSTALLED! I say, learn basic diag procedures, then find a good computer guy who knows at least what you know.

  • spyware cant prevent machine from booting because spyware dont afect BIOS ...

SPyware only take effect after BIOS does on ... like in your OS

  • repairs cost what people are willing to pay...

  • Lmao. Ribbon cable, or IDE. we know.

  • Calling those people whores, would be a compliment.

  • haha "ribbon cable", not used for any computers anymore

  • their crazy.

  • Scammers

  • This happend all the time. You need to know many "Computer Nerds" the fixs software problems is the same problem. In the urly days this was easy money.

  • wow geeksquad sucks they dont fix shit they fuck it up.people dont listen to them.they charge for setting up a ps3.they also charge unreasonably amount of money.129 dollars for setting up a ps3.

  • Hey, I know a cheap guy in the I.T field most of them just want to take your money but this guy pretty much is alright... :) He really works with you on your computer issues the company's number is (916) 821-5488 I think it's call Alpha Tech or something like that... I like that they are honest but mostly serving SAC only ( I think) only downfall I know of ;) Anyone needing help with their computer problems should check him out plus they're REALLY reasonable help's name was "Mike" CHECK it out

  • A technician u speak to at the counter is only as good as his boss I say.

  • ahahahah this is the WORST audio/video sync i have seen on youtube to date. hahaahaha

  • Ya. Those motherfuckers will nickel and dime. Doesn't surprise me that the guy was Indian.

  • haha..wow!

  • lazy people with no computer repair skills rely on these Nerds with black tie, and so thats what you get! Learn how to repair noobs :O

  • @ Baldo xxx4000: Yeah, silly us for counting on people to be civilized.

You realize that we can't know it all right? Sooner or later we everyone has to rely on someone for help on something that they are, 'noobs' in.

This allows us to fully invest out time in our own specialties rather than training in everything to make sure we don't get screwed by our neighbor. Its called a functioning society and it works best when people are'nt scumbags by default...

  • wahahahhaa...!!! m laghing loud right now!! i nevor thought that many of american computer technician is a monkey also ^_^ i thought filipino only can do that!! lol!! simple hard drive not detecting can only found already in bois start up it will say "no operrating system found" or "insert media disk" lol!! what an idiotic act.. even me i never finish high school.. but many said i am good in fixing computers.. want to try me ?? nyhahhahahah

  • The geek squad is overrated

  • Those people seriously FAIL.

A kid could figure THAT out.

  • this video made me mad at the major computer repair shops. i am a tech my self and wouldnt even bother charging for a simple fix like that. i would wonder why the data cable is unplugged though. in about a minute after reciveing the pc, the customer would have it back to them good as new.

  • they charge 129 dollars fro setting up a ps3

  • Such scam artists - Geek squad once charged a customer to use a special tool (A PAPER CLIP) to remove a disc stuck in the CD Rom drive.

It gives those of us who are trying to run a legitimate computer business a bad name.

    These people make me angry.

  • I don't trust them at those place, just a mechanic when working on your automobile they will rip you off and take your money. for a simple job like just pushing in certain cable those techs are stupid. I have sat down and look at computers and have built them before and just built one for myself plus fixed my laptop. It does not take a genius to look in the computer read directions and figure out a little problem. directions open case, look at all cables. if you see one not pluged then fix.

  • Yeah I've been making alot of techs angry by putting a complete series of videos on my Youtube channel on how to remove spyware, clean up start up and basically completely fix all the problems with all free software that any basic user can use.

  • Half of these "so called techs", are bullshit at what they do and give their companies a bad name. For instance, "Geeksquad", I just started working there a few weeks ago and I LOVE IT. Theres actually a few good techs, but theres also a few of them that dont know their dick from their asshole. Stop judging whole entire organizations based on a few bad experiences. P.S, geeksquad has really started to crack down on their hiring process.

  • anyone mind giving me a link to downlaod the latest bios for my laptop? i went to the manufactures website and look for my model but couldnt find it among the list. the system information says my computer is a HP Pavillion dv6000 (RP304UA#ABA). and the tag on the botom of my laptop says the same thing except without the rp304 thing, but below that under a line says dv6205us. can you please give me the correct link for the latest BIOS? Thanks :)

  • good i like this video

  • thx so much

  • Actually that is, minimum wage $8/hour with a $2 premium.

  • Staples pays their techs $11 an hour with a $2 premium (so they don't have to pay in full for overtime). They charge customers about $80 an hour, or fees around $50 for stuff that takes 10 minutes. They are severely incompetent.

  • Subscribe to me, and I'll subscribe back and I'll feature you in one of my videos!

  • Okay not fox news, kcal9...??? WTF.... Crap anyways..

  • LooooooL, I find this normal, somebody has too pay, if you cant fix it then your just gonna have to coff up the cash.... And since this is FOX news, its all bullshit and fake publicity....

  • omg i hate ide cables with there 40 pins of inflexibility sata cables are some much better

  • I just came across a site that has some good information on repairing laptops yourself its:

    laptoprepairsx.blogspot.c o m put the c o m together obviously, cheers and happy fixing.

  • lol best buy's geek squad is a joke, just a couple of no give a shit kids/losers. They think since they watch best buy's 10 minute training videos that they invented the fucking computer. I had a warrently on a laptop, had issues took it to back, geek squad had it 3 months!

  • That is just fucking criminal to charge money to push back in lead. Shame, shame on them we know your name!

  • No it's not. Most computer repairs are relatively simple, and they take time.

A clerk had to take the computer, deal with the customer, write up an invoice and take time to open the box up and make the inspection. Then he has to test the system. All of that can take up to an hour. A good mechanic can change sparkplugs in 10 minutes, should that be free too?

What about at McDonalds? It only takes 20 seconds to make my burger, that should be free too.

  • one thing is plug cables which do not require buying extra parts and mcdonalds spends money on the meat, cooking process and its extra stuff

  • And the computer shop has to pay for their rent, electricity, the invoices they use, time spent with the customer, time it takes to get the computer up on the bench, test it out, open it up, diagonse the problem, repair it, get back on the phone with the customer, take more time with them talking about the repair, the time at the till. There is more to it. Obviously you've never worked retail, you're probably a kid.

  • yup, i never worked before but i mean plugin only a cable isnt that hard... when i didnt know a shit about computers i went to repair shops for minor probs and they never charged me, you see what i want to say right?

  • lol fail all of you

  • No matter all of them is same. All of them is crashing (Mostly causes overheating problem). I prefer to get a PC. Because if you are getting a MAC you gonna pay least 2 times more than PC. Don't worry, MAC will crash too.

  • SHUT. THE FUCK. UP.

  • I work for the geek squad and we would have easily caught this. The problem is geek squad is not trained they bring in computer nerds from off the street, I just happen to be an ITT graduate. And btw, buying a mac does not fix this problem, it actually makes it worse....we take mac users for a ride all the time....it's a joke how stupid mac users are.

  • Geeksquad???!!!! i worked for a company that fixes Bestbuys problems namely geeksquad amost bankrupt yourselfs your lucky daddy(bestbuy) has a fat wallet .... MSG me for component level Repairs BGA rework DCs LCDs HDDs dont get ripped by the fakes that can only remove spyware and viruses true hardware repair i rest my case

  • Still you don't need to be a ITT graduate to figer out that a IDE cable is completely disconnected.

Anyone that knows about computers will figurout that its something to do with the HDD after booting up the computer and seeing that it runs fine. it just cant locate the Hard drive and will say something like "Reboot and Select proper Boot device"

With that right there I wad know its something to do with the Hard drive.

    Definitely not the power supply!!!!!

  • dude you have not idea what ur talking about....macs have hard drives also....besides take ur computer to the an apple genius and you would be charged double if not triple.....the hardware have nothing to do with the operative system.....capiche?

  • WTF is a CAPICHE? ENGLISHHH we're in AMERICA u freaking italian ginny mother fuckers! go back to italy and stay there u freakin wanna be white people!

  • I'm American you retarded motherfucker, and so are my parents.....ur just mad cuz i'm bilingual and smarter that you as*hole.....CAPICHE???...EH...That's why people think we are stupid....

    PEACE

  • u know english and what else?

  • Spanish & some Italian is that enough....: )

  • so what are u bro?

  • why r u so interested.....I'm not gonna marry u...lol

  • The shop I work at would have probably just charged 25... BUT... an IDE cable doesn't unplug itself, likely the customer unplugged it trying to fix it themselves... So... we might charge $50 (dumb ass tax) or just fix it and send you on the way (Because we feel sorry for you). lol

Normally, problems aren't this simple and most shops warranty their work, there is always the possibility of more costly issues which the customer may expect us to be liable for within the warranty period.

  • lol the guy of BMI computer is a fucking INDIAN , that's why this fucking smelling was cheating !!!

  • Those store keepers pi#$@#ed me off for making them pay that much money for a god dam loose cable, dam as%$ole workers.

  • "This is the hard drive." omg... EXPERT!!

  • haha! FAIL, weak..

  • You are a cocky moron that would definitely get beat down and raped in jail.

Oh and did i forget to mention, you would also deserve it.

Thats what criminals like you (if you also "rape" people at the repair shop) deserve for taking advantage of those who do not know "everything:" like you apparently do.

Cockiness and Ignorance go hand in hand...

Therefore I believe you to be the true moron here

  • si se ba compral una nueba quien? el que tenga una barata de 300 peso lol pq eel que tiene una buena la arregla si cuesta el arreglo 200 pa que sepas una pc buena vale 800 una bien buena 1000 y la mejor 3000

  • This video is hilarious

  • Rofl at those prices, It would take me 5 minutes and I would charge $25AUD, that's like $15USDish. Get Real.

  • technical support here folks

  • if the pc repair cost more then $100... buy a new one....

  • If a car repair costs more than $1,000 should you buy a new one?

  • geeksquad is a joke, its the front man for another company. Dex doesnt have a store u can go drop off ur puter at

  • well if geek squad could do such a better job why dont they get a supplier for their parts. Id like to see u take apart 20 laptops and not make a mistake mofo

  • i repair my pc by my self and i build it too :D

  • Part 2:

back in but it didn't do any good. the charger light still works but when i click the on button the charger light disapears so i have to take out the battery and put it back in to make it work again. Any ideas?

  • Test all removable components in a working laptop (CPU, RAM, hard drive), if that fails your system board is toast.

  • I bought a laptop from staples right, figure its a good deal. they load it with so much junk and shit its not funny. spent a little bit plus HP sent me a free Hard drive. I later said the heck with it up the space to 250 GB. had to wipe everything clean. some tech call themselves professional.. hahaha..
