I've watched two of your videos so far, and all I can say is, you make a habit of driving like a dick and blaming everyone else for problems you got yourself into. You need to start driving on the far left of the road so that cars can overtake you safely. Instead you drive a quarter of a lane out from the kerb and then get upset when cars are forced to overtake a hair's width away from you... or are you expecting them to change lanes for you or slow down to your speed?
i work with people that ride bikes that use them only to get to work and back and are a lot better at it than you. y is it people that wear tight shorts with a fancy bike and all kited out for biking think that you can do what you want on the road sitting in the middle of the traffic at a stand still. stick to the side of the road like you supposed to. i used to ride a bike years ago cos that was the only transport i had. the limit away from the curb is the drain distance away from the curb!!!!!

@richierfc89 being on the inside by the pavement would be a *really* bad idea when there are cars and buses turning left from your right hand side. Cyclists call that "the death zone". Staying in the middle is actually the safest place.

@Mr20Typer Yep, riding up between lanes of slow/stopped traffic on a motorbike or bicycle is perfectly legal. Generally referred to as "filtering", see Highway Code rules 211 and 88 for mentions of it.

@oatfarls Just a quick response, oatfarls... in short, cyclists and motorists don't share the same set of road rules. They are largely the same, but there are some rules which apply only to one or the other.
Filtering is one such rule.
Others include overtaking on the zig-zag lines at a crossing, use of hatched areas, cycle lanes and motorway. There are more too but the point is made.
That said, filtering isn't for everyone for the very reason you closed your comment on.

@26692 Having, as I remind myself, a life, I haven't time to look up the intricacies of the UK road laws, assuming you live in the UK. Where I live, the law doesn't forbid "filtering". As for people hating "us guys", grow up. I cycle, I ride public transit, I drive a car (happen to own two). @harryslaptop its called filtering moron... Motorcycles do it too. The reason that smaller vehicles are allowed, and even encouraged to filter is because its safer for them to do so than to try and command the same area of road that a car would in a que.
You are fine filtering through stationary traffic, but you should have filtered all the way to the front, not stopped awkwardly between 4 cars, as you did. That was ALWAYS going to lead to a dangerous situation. I'm not sure where the law stands on this one, but I would not be surprised if it's technically on your side & you simply sought out the scenario in order to provoke the motorists & then be able to say pedantically that you're in the right. Common sense doesnt seem to be your strong suit
@bobjones1780 As a motorcyclist, I know it is illegal to filter to the front of a queue if you pass the stop line to do so. Many still do it, however. Guideline is you shouldn't filter unless you can see a gap in a queue to enter. Dangerous situation or not, the woman had no reason to hit him and was, all in all, a bit of a berk.
@bobjones1780 Filtering to the front isn't right in this situation. There's no advance stop for cyclists there and so going to the front would have meant crossing the stop line with is illegal (stupidly - it shouldn't be illegal on a bike but it is).
Pulling to the front also risks the lights changing before you've made enough ground to be seen by the drivers of the front cars which risks being sideswiped with a lane change, unsignalled turn and so on.
@thirteenfingers My point is that he stopped in a dangerous spot. If he couldn't legally have filtered all the way to the front, then fine. The bottom line is where he stopped was not a) sensible, or b) safe.

Filtering between lanes of cars is not an issue, nor is stopping there.
Unless traffic is at a crawl the usual way is stop where he did, make eye contact, when the car ahead moves off the cyclist pulls in to the kerb side of the road and then the car behind drives on.
Other than the driver I don't see what was dangerous.

That's kinda my objection here: he didn't stop IN FRONT of a vehicle,he stopped in between lanes.My view is if it was not safe to filter to the head of the queue,he should have stopped in the line of traffic,taking a position within a lane.Instead,he stopped between lanes & between 4 cars.Not safe.

@oatfarls Just a quick response, oatfarls... in short, cyclists and motorists don't share the same set of road rules. They are largely the same, but there are some rules which apply only to one or the other.
Filtering is one such rule.
Others include overtaking on the zig-zag lines at a crossing, use of hatched areas, cycle lanes and motorway. There are more too but the point is made.
That said, filtering isn't for everyone for the very reason you closed your comment on.

You are fine filtering through stationary traffic, but you should have filtered all the way to the front, not stopped awkwardly between 4 cars, as you did. That was ALWAYS going to lead to a dangerous situation. I'm not sure where the law stands on this one, but I would not be surprised if it's technically on your side & you simply sought out the scenario in order to provoke the motorists & then be able to say pedantically that you're in the right. Guideline is you shouldn't filter unless you can see a gap in a queue to enter. Dangerous situation or not, the woman had no reason to hit him and was, all in all, a bit of a berk.

@bobjones1780 Filtering to the front isn't right in this situation. There's no advance stop for cyclists there and so going to the front would have meant crossing the stop line with is illegal (stupidly - it shouldn't be illegal on a bike but it is).
Pulling to the front also risks the lights changing before you've made enough ground to be seen by the drivers of the front cars which risks being sideswiped with a lane change, unsignalled turn and so on.
Thats was completely correct riding.

Filtering between lanes of cars is not an issue, nor is stopping there.
Unless traffic is at a crawl the usual way is stop where he did, make eye contact, when the car ahead moves off the cyclist pulls in to the kerb side of the road and then the car behind drives on.
Other than the driver I don't see what was dangerous.

Stopping further back would have put him in exactly the same position in relation to other cars but further back along the line. What would have been different and how would it have helped?
Sure, he may not have been in front of a maniac who shouldn't have a licence, but that's nothing that can be anticipated when choosing road position.
