  • I didn't know what the phase switch did, til now. Thanks for the clear explanation of that!

  • Thank you for this video.. but i really think you should buy some JBL subwoofers :D

  • Thankd!

  • Thank you. I just got one of these powered sub woofers and know nothing about them. It would be nice if I could hook up my two smaller size (not in power) speakers in the back of the room to this sub woofer. I think it would save me some speaker wire.

  • Yeah, lets just play with our over powered bases, and see what all kind of expensive things fall off the shelves.

  • No offense, but you got it wrong.

By the way, I have a Two 15" subs. And a small living room. No problem :)

  • 120 hz are higher than 40 Hz, 40Hz is a deeper frequency. And the crossover is very important as well.

  • expert village is such a fucking fail blog. Why did I come here again.....grrrr......

  • Expert ummmmmm riggggghhhht!!! Really can you use car subwoofers that is just funny.... you should be teaching this. Probably a highend system to this guy comes from a TIB with a 27" Crt.

  • he defined subwoofer wrong

  • We review home theater systems ourselves. If your budget isn't unlimited but want a home theater system of good quality, look at our reviews..

  • what kind of subwoofer is this?

  • expert village - the down syndrome channel of youtube

  • can you use subs from a car?

  • @MrNonzerogrunt yes.. but only if u have a stable amp you can power them from...

  • iv laid bricks more intelligent than this bloke.....

  • wtf ? I know much more and I'm sixteen man..come on -.-'

  • expert? i know more then this guy and im 20

  • what sub is he using to demonstrate in the vid? please help!? btw, not to b rude, but u did explain a few things incorrectly :(

  • This guy is an expert in a village of idiots.

  • this guy didnt know shit

  • What a fucking retard. Does not know what he is talking about.

  • Wow my sub has no controls on it I have the Onkyo

  • Wow, I'm only 16 and I know more than this guy. What a dumbass!

  • this guy dont know shit

  • The sub cant protect the speakers if the speakers are so cheap that they can only handle 2 watts! The sub is supposed to reproduce SUB bass frequenies that is its only purpose!

  • It´s Expert Village-

no wonder that there are several mistakes^^

  • man your an idiot stfu...

  • man your an idiot stfu...

  • How do I make the In's an out's work on my sub ? I've got a amp on the back like this one does. But Idk how to get power to the amp ?

  • @MrPopyotop PLUG IT THE FUCK IN.

  • i love youtube! you get to watch idiots from all over the world try to be experts on everything and at the same time read all the comments from all the other idiots on earth argue about who is more of a nonexpert on the topic! haha how do you go from talking speakers to talking about your dick in a mans asshole! haha so dumb!

  • @bassl0va i set my frequency as low as it will go

  • @ParadigmShifty You like my cock?

  • @kawaiifreak860 fuckin idiot!!! Car woofers and home woofers are mainly different... go fuck your self with your... let me guess 80000 Watt Car sub!!

  • @blubbGUITARblubb Pfffft your fucking stupid.

  • @bassl0va Many people set thei subwoofer to cross over around 40Hz if they have powerful front speakers. Often it's more desirable because the small drivers in the front speakers are "faster" than the larger subwoofer and can result in higher quality bass. For example, my front speakers have four 7" woofers, three of which handle bass frequencies. The speakers extend to about 25Hz in-room. By setting my 15" subwoofer to a 40Hz crossover I can blend it more smoothly with the front speakers.

  • @kawaiifreak860 If you actually read what I typed you would find out I meant low pass filter. If I set my LPF at 40hz then the sub can play down to whatever frequency, say 15hz, but it will have reduced output at frequencies above 40hz creating a dip between the mains and the sub (unless you have awesome mains)

Also, wattage isn't everything, someone with 500 watts RMS can beat someone with 1000 watts RMS. It's not just power, it's box, room etc and it has to sound good too. In a house anyway

  • His home theater must suck.

  • Way more technical...LOL He takes people for complete IDIOTS!

Just because you turn your sub does not reverse the phase. The driver still moves air IN and OUT ,switch phase 180 and it becomes OUT and IN.If the mains woofer piston moves FORWARD and the sub's piston moves FORWARD at the same time we are IN PHASE,it is when your sub driver piston moves IN and mains woofers move OUT when you have cancellation. It goes beyond this but it is the basic principle this EXPERT fails to grasp.

  • @bsod4u2 so what are you trying to say, that the phase should be in reverse if the subwoofer's placed opposite the main speakers?

  • @ajmrowland Another Reggie !

Read my simple post below again. OUT of phase speakers (in relation to a sub) bass driver(s) will move IN while the sub(s) driver(s) move OUT.

In phase speakers/subs(cones,pistons call them how you like) move in unison.

Turning a sub does not change that fact.

  • @expertvillage

hi lover boy my names matthewb from sound & vision magazine i'm in my 40's i love sucking little boys white pretty cocks till they cum in my faggot mouth as i give them snowball cum kiss.

i'm a really fat plump guy man who likes taking black mans cock up my asshole and i'd love to come over to you're home for the afternoon and fuck you up the guy emo tight ass.

do you mind if i creamed up your asshole i;d even let it drip in my mouth and then spit it down your month its nice

  • was it just me or was this a horrible subwoofer guide ?

  • Really bad video imo!

  • What an ass!!!

  • @bassl0va

The more capable the mains and center the lower you cross them to the sub(s). Ideal crossover point floats around 50-60hz, as you are in the realm of non directional range.80Hz will be more common as most people own very limited speakers that will reach(excursion, thermal) limits faster and use poor amplification(problems with clipping).

The goof from Clown's Village confuses more people than he helps! His tutorials as so good they make me laugh.

  • @bsod4u2 Yes, you are right, and Clowns Village made my day! lol. Pretty much all their experts just read it off some sheet written by a 10 year old!

  • Spelled bass wrong...

  • how do i connect a car sub in box to a reciever message plz???

  • @d4nk1503 Well there is allot you have to consider such as the power of the sub and the power of the amp or receiver. if you have say a 100W sub and a 500W amp/receiver your going to blow your sub, and viseversa. Make sure you check the power of both items, get the right audio cables and then you have a car sub as a home rattler.

  • does he have a fuckin clue what hes on about lol. ''bigger the better'' not always in walmarts case.

  • Wow My head Hurts with the amounts of BAD INFO . You should stop Giving out info like this. The Xover is based on the the Main speakers. Usually you want the sub to be crossed at about ten Hrz above The speaker input is for a stereo set up that is used for a system with out an LFE out put. It can be also used in a Center channel sub Configuration ( Learned That one at REL ) Have you been to REL? I Guess Not. Do you self a and every one else a favor stop posting Vids

  • first off, what the hell is that annoying high pitched sound?!?!?!

correct me if im wrong but if you switch the phase to 180 and all other speakers are at 0 you will be canceling out eachother frequencies. if the sub is from 20hz to 80hz and ur speakers are 50hz to 20khz then everything from 50hz-80hz will be canceled out. doesent matter wich way it faces.

  • here is a test you can do. take your rear speakers that are facing your front ones then reverse phase on them, it will be almost like nothing is comming out of them but you will still see the cone moving!

  • @iloveaxxo but it's still good to let the sub do up to 80. then you dont stress the floorstanders too much

  • Comment removed

  • In all my years I never found the polarity switch useful

  • WHATS THAT HIGH PITCH SOUND ARGH

  • then if its not for that room than why do you have it in the next video

  • i agree. im 15 and i probly know more than him

  • cerwin vega <3

  • If you put the sub next to the couch you will hear tones that you should not be able to hear, making your movie experience very annoying! I recommend a front corner of the room or somewhere close to it.

  • he explains it in a nice way but where is the high constant beep coming from??

  • this guy just reed the manual fitcures of the woofer(cerwin vega hst- 12), he is right at the phases but that woofer dosnt retein the frecuencies about 40hz to 120hz , just take a part of the signal and the amplifier do the rest. those frecuencies pass too your other speakers the problem is that your speakers dont reproduce that frecuencies. get luky

  • Q: I have a Sony Receiver SONY STR-DH 800 @ 8 ohms a Amplified powered sub SONY SA-W 3000@ 6 ohms R they compatible? THanx

  • shure they are compatible just see the spesifications and how are u going to conect it? maybe i can hellp u

  • WTF WHATS WITHT HE HIGH PITCH AHHHH!!!

  • this guy looks positively red lol

  • mong

  • he explained crossovers incorrectly

  • Could you provide a brief explanation of the subwoofer crossovers or recommend a site or video that explains how to use the crossover feature correctly? I'd really appreciate it.

  • @kenroy916 YOUR A FAGGOT FUCK YOUR DEAD MOM IN THE ANAL CANAL UNTIL SHE IS PUKEING SEMEN

  • is that Mourdant Short speaker?

  • fuck this rinding is relly annyoing

  • thats a basic features on a powered subwoofers

  • my question is .. on the back of the sub, you have that line level input.. with a left and right jack. The problem is.. My a/v reciever has a subwoofter out jack but its only single... how do i hook this up?

  • a y jack from walmart for 5 bux

  • to the one that says LFE thats black right next to the LR (redwhite) all receivers are that way

  • centerstagebracket . com

  • i wnt tht sub

  • You gave the wrong info about crossover frequencies. The larger the speaker (or should I actually say the lower a speaker can go) the lower you can set the crossover although 80hz is deemed the average crossover recommended by THX. Your recommendation of 40hz for small speakers could damage someones investment by sending tones that a small speaker could not reproduce. With small speakers you would have a higher crossover point (with some speakers 100hz to 120hz crossovers are not unheard of).

  • cuz everyone can afford a Cerwin Vega woofer. c-mon..

  • svs subs on the other hand are pretty affordable :]

  • Shakes the neighbor!

    Hmmmm!?!?

  • Buddy...I will give you some credit for having the gumption to post yourself on the tube..it makes people a pretty easy target..none the less, I would suggest you read up on a few things so you dont do yourself such a disservice for all to comment on and put down.

You got a few of your facts wrong or backwards. you need to do some quality control on your vids.

But kudos on doing something..its more than i have ever done and i think i know more about sound and hi fi than any human anywhere.

  • the guy doesnt even know what the speaker inputs and outputs are used for...and phase isnt exactly a hugely technical thing? the input outputs are to take the frequencies from speaker input, to seperate the lower frequencies to the sub and send the higher speakers back to the speakers, this is used when you have an old amp that doesnt have RCA sub output...oh my lord! 40 hertz on a smaller sub and 100-120 hertz when its larger? does he understand how sound frequencies and speakers work at all?

  • (continued from below) the settings in the surround receiver or processor will have a "Small" or "Large" speaker setting (crossover which splits the signal to the 7 main fullrange channels into the sub) and that in turn makes the low pass crossover on the sub a secondary filter. You should start at the receiver crossover frequency and work down in frequency and volume slowly taking time to listen in between, untill the sub blends with the main speakers. Check out my Vids at NOCHTcom

  • Wow, hey guys, you need to take some classes. read "bullock on boxes" or "The Loudspeaker cookbook" to get the basics of how speakers produce sound. Your basically correct but you failed to mention ported vs sealed design, room placement (how to locate the sweet spot). The 120hz frequency is higher than 40hz and Larger main speakers can handle 40hz Smaller main speakers can handle the higher 120hz frequencies. Most 5.25" woofers in a sealed box do 80hz just fine. None of this really matters as

  • dang, thats a nice sub from cerwin vega, i bet it was very expensive, if you want even more bass out of that sub stuff a sock or shirt in the bass port very tightly and it makes a sealed enclosure, i dont know why they put ports on these because you loose a lot of bass through it

  • ports are used because it require less energy to power the sub since air escapes through the port.

More air being driven = more energy being used

  • if u take the main speakers in it can power the sub also

  • If you have a small main speaker, cut the sub down to 40 hz?? This guy needs to go back to school. Idiot. I have satelite speakers, so my sub is set to 100-120hz. There would be so many mid-low frequencies missing if it was set to 40.

  • what if a person had front speakers which has watts at 240 for both front speakers which subwoofer would u recommend?

  • this has nothing to do with crossover settings. What kind of subwoofer? There are a lot of variables when choosing a subwoofer. Depends on budget, sound taste, size of room, apartment or house, what type of speakers you have. Do you listen to rap, or jazz? Is this for home theater, too?

  • forr my front two speakers they r TECHnics, THEY R AT 240 WATTS AT OHMS i believe, my center speaker is a Pioneer is 125 watts at 8 Onms my surround speakers r Polk audios, not sure how big my room is but i listen to alot of music

  • get a nice musical 12 inch like a paradigm pdr 12 that will handle pretty much anything u throw at it and its around 500$

  • my god. what the heck, talk more like a tech not like you have no idea what to say.

  • 120 uh.....hertz...uh....number

    LAWLS

This guy should either do more research so he actually knows what he's talking about or practice his lines more so it seems like he does...

  • What kind of subwoofer is that?

  • my shit could tell u more about home theater my actual shit in my toilet nos more

  • that was to the guy in the vid......!!!!!

  • Idiot!!!! get off youtube!!! you don't know jack about the equipment and you don't know jack about how to set it up!!! sorry but you suck

  • This video has inspired me. It has inspired me to come out with my own HT setup videos that will absolutely kick this hack off youtube. This guy has no idea what he's doing or talking about. Plus his equipment sucks balls.

  • Would you see subs upgrading to HDMI cables any time soon ???

  • If your receiver doesn't have a seperate output for the subwoofer, you can run your front speaker wires from the receiver to the "speaker in" jacks on the sub, then connect the front speakers to the "speaker out" jacks. Your sub gets the signal that it uses and then passes it on to the front speakers.
