Here in the good old USA only one party can claim the sad state of being racist.....and we all know what one that is. Sad....very sad.....you'd be stuned to know how many are in this country, even to this day. I see it all the time so I know what I say is true.

The Christmas before my mother passed away she taped this off of the t.v. so that I could finally see it. She included a note that said that at the time she thought the movie was about good and evil, but she later came to realize it was about doing what is right no matter the consequences. That is why, she said, she named me Freya for 'free'.
My mother got my name from this movie when she was 15 years old, at home with the measles. She decided then and there that if she ever had a daughter she would name her Freya for Free. My name Freya Michael means 'she who is free and strong.'
This film is important today in demonstrating how Nazism impacted a family in the early days of the Reich. But notice that MGM was very careful not to mention the words Germany, Fueher or even Jews in the script for fear of a backlash against its film distribution in the German market. Unfortunately it had the opposite effect.
@Dava1000 Mostly true, but the film script says Adolf Hitler in one of the early scenes when they take a moment out of the birthday party to listen to the radio news. Great movie!
