this is what the NBA is missing, RIVALRIES. now everyone is hugging and shaking hands and shit. the NBA is weak. a slap on the wrist and guys want to act like they got murdered. players like kobe and lebron would get killed playing against these guys. i love how they talk about how they hated each other and they couldnt wait to get at each other the following year. Im chicago born and raised and i just miss the old days when the Bulls and Knicks used to go at it. god i miss those days so much.
@thechido I agree with u 100% percent. I respected the Chicago Bulls but I couldnt stand them when they played my Knicks in the playoffs. I remember staying home on countless sunday afternoons to watch them go at it. Players nowadays want to be buddy-buddy and they bitch and whine over every call. The NBA in the 80's and 90's was a man's league. Now its just unwatchable, I miss those days when the NBA was great.
The teams of the 80's were just so stacked. You throw out names like Byron Scott or Denniss Johnson and they aren't even considered one of your top three players.....now thats depth and talent. With 30 teams in the league today the talent pool is definitly spread out, however, the athleticism of todays players would give those 80's teams all kinds of fits. Bigger, stroner, faster, quicker.....now, better? Thats a differnt story
"take magic's best team..take larrys best team...AND NO TEAM TODAY...can beat them...NONE...sorry lebron and kobe"
i have to agree to, i mean there is no better SF than Bird, no better PF than Mchale and Worthy and Center Abdul-Jabbar(parish was really good to) and no better PG than Magic. But the real thing that made them amazing was the team play. HIstory proves it team play wins championship (80's lakers and Celtics, 50-60's celtics) rather than one player do-it-all-yourself (lebron, wilt)
Everyone seems to forget that in order for Boston to get to the Lakers in the final they had to usually battle one hell of a Philly squad. The Bird/Magic/Doctor J/Kareem years are by far the best years of the NBA. I would include Michael on this list out of respect but he didn't have an equal to play against in his prime.
@StraightTwoDVD I agree but you also have to factor in that the main reason for that is the salary cap...you cant stack a team of HOFamers like you could then.
How is one MVP and riding on another player's back to 3 Championships and one title in a watered down league better than Bird's :
rookie of the year (over Magic- Kobe lost to AI hahaha) , three titles in a more competitive league, and three straight MVP's in, again, a better league. Magic and Bird are both better than Kobe, as is MJ and Lebron
@RNSSR oh shit did Kobe win 3 MVP awards in a row? I must have missed that when I fell asleep for ten 15 years, or maybe I've been awake and you just don't know much about basketball. I think thats it.
Kobe may be (i dont think so but you can argue it) a better player, and his career has ben longer, i'll give you that, but a better career? You must be out of your mind.
@juvenal660 , MVP stopped being a criteria for all time greatness when they gave Jordan's away to Malone......and once Nash one two in a row that ship sailed.
I used to be a huge Bulls fan in the Jordan era, never liked the Lakers, but always had great great admiration for Magic and Bird.
I dont think theres been any other players with Magic's vision since he quit.

You had to have seen it to understand how great these 2 are. I'm glad I did! I will say this Lebron is the closest because of his passing ability.

I agree. Those Laker & Celtic teams would run circles around today's "elite" squads.

Larry Bird vs Magic Johnson was a natural rivalry. Kobe vs Lebron is manufactured.
